Has anyone ever heard of petsmoz.com?
I came across this site by accident, and in their herp section I found a bunch of threads from BP.net word for word (even my username) but posted by "users" that I believe are computer generated due to their names...
Here is an example of a BP.net thread I posted on that is on Petsmoz.com
http://www.petsmoz.com/herps-22/foll...erchant-29739/
Do any of the Admins/Mods know about this?
-
Looks like that site is hijacking our threads as we post them...
http://www.petsmoz.com/herps-22/
I'll make sure we look into this.
Thank you, Aaron!

Yeah, something is up with this site, I wouldn't be surprised if they are pulling threads from other sites as well...
I might make an account on it (not with any real info) just to poke around
-
Holy I AM TOTALLY NOT COOL WITH THIS! I see my thread on the front page I just made.

Use an email you don't mind getting spam on, best would be one you make just to access sites like that so there isn't a chance you'll open something malicious from them. Hijacking might not be the only thing they are doing.

Same here, i found a bunch of threads that have information from me... including some with my real username in them...
-
Yes I see those! I am glad the poetry thread I made did not make its way there. I would have been P TO THE MFING O'ED.
-
From poking around this site, I have found that they are stealing threads from pretty much any website that is pet related... I have yet to find another "real user" online
I have also attempted to contact site staff... if they even exist.
-
I've seen a few things like that, after I "googled myself." Googled my photography website to see what came up, and lo and behold some things that I had posted on a photography forum came up. It's not a new thing. All you can do is report the website to the hosting company, if possible.

Re: Has anyone ever heard of petsmoz.com?
just seen it how long has it been around and could it be someone from this site doing that

Not sure how long it has been up.
Because posts are coming from dozens of users I am inclined to think that it is a bot...
-
This is so not cool.
Is there any way we can help get that stuff stopped ? Someone we can report it to, something ?!

There is another one called boardreader.com. Not exactly the same but similar. It atleast gives credit to BP.net.
Just do a google search for your username and the threads you have posted in will come up in the search.

That is how I found Petsmoz.com, I'm in the process of registering my username as my business name, and was trying to make sure that nobody was using it already...
-
At the bottom of the site is says the site is over 4 years old ........

Yeah, that's how I found the other one the first time.
I wonder since alot of forums are setup/powered by vBulletin if it's somehow related to them?

Re: Has anyone ever heard of petsmoz.com?
now that site wont let me view post it says i exceded the number of post i can view. also serpent merchant i posted pics on the other post about tub cleaning if you dont mind checking em out and telling me what you think of those wipes thanx
-
I was able to see who has been viewing threads, and almost all of them are spiders... (bots that help companies like goole determine what ads to put on a webpage)
I have a feeling that this site is an ad click scam, using threads from animal related forums posted by fake users to make them look real while they generate thousands of "clicks" on the adds, which generates real cash for whoever owns the site and is renting the ad space.

I'm not familiar with the active ingredient in those wipes, so I can't say if they are safe or not...
Petsmoz.com doesn't seem to be updating threads, they steal a developed thread, then leave it... or maybe it updates in waves. Since I have been on, nothing new has been posted at all. (except a post that I made)

no, it generates cash by itself... (also I can't prove that they are indeed doing this)
the way that it works is a site generates fake users those fake users click on the ads on the site thousands of times. each time an ad gets clicked the person (or company) that created the add pays google or whoever hosts the ads, and then google pays the owner of the site.
For more info on click fraud:
Quote:
Click fraud[1] is a type of Internet crime that occurs in pay per click online advertising when a person, automated script or computer program imitates[2] a legitimate user of a web browser clicking on an ad, for the purpose of generating a charge per click without having actual interest in the target of the ad's link. Click fraud is the subject of some controversy and increasing litigation due to the advertising networks being a key beneficiary of the fraud.
Use of a computer to commit this type of Internet fraud is a felony in many jurisdictions, for example Penal Code 502 in California, USA.[3] There have been arrests relating to click fraud with regard to malicious clicking in order to deplete a competitor's advertising budget
Quote:
Pay per click advertising, or PPC advertising, is an arrangement in which webmasters (operators of Web sites), acting as publishers, display clickable links from advertisers in exchange for a charge per click. As this industry evolved, a number of advertising networks developed, which acted as middlemen between these two groups (publishers and advertisers). Each time a (believed to be) valid Web user clicks on an ad,the advertiser pays the advertising network, who in turn pays the publisher a share of this money. This revenue-sharing system is seen as an incentive for click fraud.
The largest of the advertising networks, Google's AdWords/AdSense and Yahoo! Search Marketing, act in a dual role, since they are also publishers themselves (on their search engines).[4] According to critics, this complex relationship may create a conflict of interest. This is because these companies lose money to undetected click fraud when paying out to the publisher but make more money when collecting fees from the advertiser. Because of the spread between what they collect and pay out, unfettered click fraud would create short-term profits for these companies.

Also their number of users online drastically changes, it said that there were 12 users online, then I reloaded the page and it said that there was 153...
*EDIT* and is now back down to 12 since I reloaded the page again

Wow, this is scary. Thanks for alerting us to this. I see my threads there, too.
-
Just an update, My account on Petsmoz.com was terminated for posting unwanted SPAM.....
-
further they deleted all of my posts on the site, and have stolen many more threads from BP.net. Including threads using BP.net members usernames.
including:
Daybreaker
John1982
Slim
LGray23
-
I can see them now claiming "fair use".
-
Yea, but at least it looks like its hosted in the states, so there could be some sort of legal action that can be taken against them if needed... unlike if it was hosted in taiwan or china.
-
I'm in the process right now of getting kicked off that site. I'm using every word I've never been able to use on BP.net...most of them start with the 6th letter of the alphabet...

Perhaps the petsmoz "community" needs to view some very distasteful images?
-
Thanks for the notification Aaron. I found my posts on this site too.
While Googleing, I also found my posts on nature.motiontopic.net, if anybody wants to check for their posts there as well.

Re: Has anyone ever heard of petsmoz.com?
If you run across threads that are blatantly ripped from this forum, please PM me or any other Admin (name in red) with the original thread from BP.net as well as a link to the ripped thread.
There are ways (legally) to get the content removed from that forum. I'm afraid creating dummy accounts and harassing is not an affective method. It merely boosts their user count
Thanks.
