Summer vacations anyone?
Anyone have any vacation plans for this summer?
My wife and I leave on June 8th for 10 days in northern Wyoming. I rented us a really nice little cabin for the 10 days and have made reservations for all sorts of fun stuff like white water rafting, swimming in the hot springs in Thermopolis, Yellowstone NP, Devil's Canyon Overlook, Devil's Kitchen, Buffalo Bill Cody Museum, rodeos, and lots of herping and hiking. The best part? No family and no work! Woot!
Then this fall/winter we're planning on going to Las Vegas! We got married there and have been itching to go back.
-
Swimming the hot springs and rodeos... sounds awesome!!
I'm heading off to Southern Illinois to visit family in June then headed to Nashville for a few days of R&R after. Really looking forward to some long overdue southern hospitality.
Then in July my wife and I rented a cottage on the east coast of Canada in New Brunswick.
We have time off in October, but not too sure what we are doing yet. We were thinking about a hiking trip to Peru, but not sure if we will be able to make it happen this year.
-
Me, Chad and the kids go to Wildwood NJ every year. Love the beach and the boardwalk there is awesome!
We are leaving June 24 and coming home the 30. It's taking forever for the time to come!
-
Leaving June 23rd for Orlando/Key West till the 2nd of July with my gf, parents, sister, and her bf....should be an interesting drive from NY.

Re: Summer vacations anyone?
We might run into you at Yellowstone. We're headed there for two weeks around the same time you are.
I'm also going to try and squeeze Glacier NP in on the end of that, and spend a few days over there.
-
My wife and I just got back last week from Costa Rica for our 10 year anniversary. It was a beautiful country, but HOT!!! There were lots of iguanas roaming the beaches and we went to a reptile sanctuary where they had a lot of interesting snakes....some hots too. I'll try to post pics in the next day or so if I remember.
-
I wish! Usually i go to NC with the family to visit my grandparents for a week or two. But this year i probably wont be able to afford to take of the time from work so i wont be going along with them :(
Heather- when i was younger my family used to go to Wildwood for like 3 or 4 summers in a row. I was pretty young so the only things i can remember was the boardwalk and reallyyyy good cinnamon buns that we got from some local bakery.
-
Not For me.. at least not summer...
I have Plans for end of September...
My lovely St. Augustine Fl.. and Hopefully gonna go to Keys ... Visiting Ben Siegel Reptiles on my way :P

Awesome! I noticed you were from MT. Where about? We are flying into Billings and renting a car there. We should be pretty easy spot. There shouldn't be too many fat guys with mohawks and women with hot pink hair in northern Wyoming/southern Montana. We are making Greybull our base camp. I grew up there and know the area very well, so that is why we chose to stay there.

Oooh, definitely share! We'd love to go some place like that, but that is out of our price range for sure at this point in our lives. Someday we will. :gj:

We are trying to decide between family vacation to Disneyland or adult time in Vegas. My wife and I never got a honeymoon so we are leaning towards Vegas. The kids have been to Disneyland already once this year ...

 Nope, not too many of those. Lots of healthy people and hippies. I'll be the fat chick with the guy that walks funny. I feel so out of place here, but I'm trying to get back into some semblance of "shape".
I live in Missoula.

Easy one. Vegas. ;)
Avoid hotels like Circus Circus, Sahara and Imperial Palace. They are dumps. Can't go wrong with places like Planet Hollywood, MGM Grand, NY,NY, Mirage or TI for the money. Excalibur and Stratosphere are great values too if you're on a budget, but you'll want to upgrade your room by offering the clerk a "sandwich" at check-in. Make sure you hit up the "Wicked Spoon" in the Cosmopolitan as well. It is a little pricey, but it will be a meal that changes your life! :D

This year we are going to universal studios FL on july 14th
-
Well if all goes to plan and I get my motorcycle. I most likely being cruising around Ontario!
-
Booking my flight for Maui tomorrow night to soak in some tropical surroundings for a week in July
Also, Costa Rica can be quite reasonable cost wise. The most expensive part is getting there, but once you are there if you are after a cool herp / wildlife experience, you can definitely do it for cheap. There are a lot of places that rent out research cabins, usually pretty rustic, but generally has access to private bath, and a shared kitchen area for cooking. Most have power, some have limited power during certain times of day only, but hey, I've spent my time in those places before working in Belize, and it's definitely doable if you have the proper mind set. If you're after more luxery, it's going to cost, that's for sure! But still, 2 people for 10 days should NOT cost anymore than 4000 including cost of flights.

Where in southern IL? My family lives near Mt. Vernon.
We're moving to the St. Louis area this summer...does that count as a vacation? No? LOL
The hubby, my mom and I just got back from 4 days in southeast TX, visiting my dad's side of the family. It was so humid all I could think about was "good sheds! Good sheds!" LOL
I'm hoping to go this fall to visit my brother and his family. They live in VA.
Someday I'd love to take a vacation just for the sake of vacationing...not visiting family or attending a funeral. Growing up, we didn't live near either set of my grandparents so every summer and every Christmas break from school was spent traveling to visit them.
Hubby and I didn't even have a honeymoon since we were both in school when we got married. The only thing we've done that really could be qualified as a vacation is NARBC...and I don't think that really counts??
I think I'd like to visit DC...I like museums! LOL But my #1 Bucket List place though is Rome. I was an art major in college so you spend all this time learning about the masters and stuff and of course the whole of the art world was Rome at one point. It just looks like such a gorgeous city. One day...

Re: Summer vacations anyone?
My boyfriend and I are going to go camping at Lake Raystown in August. We are going to go camping next month also just for a weekend to see how our dog will do before we go to Lake Raystown.
-
Daytona Reptile Breeders Expo! Taking the AutoTrain down and back with sleeper car. :gj:
-
My boyfriend, son, and I rented a house on the gulf coast of Florida for a week in August. SOOO looking forward to a break!
-
My family will be taking my nephew and future mil to Myrtle Beach SC August 12-16. That Sunday we will be attending the Myrtle Beach Reptile Expo. Unfortunately I won't get to make any purchases though.
-
Oh yes! 5 weeks in Europe! I'm leaving this sunday
The first two will be in the south of Italy, then I have a 3-4 day gap (still deciding if whether to go to an uncle's house in Germany or just go to Norway), then almost 2 weeks country hopping (Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy again, Switzerland, and then France). And after that, I'll be spending a few day in England with my sister and a few more days in Scotland.
:D super stocked. Not to mention that I'll be going as a single guy (yes, we broke up after a really long time :( )

I'm going on a cruise in Alaska for about two weeks in a August along with some family friends. Kind of excited, since we're also going hiking in Denali national park and I'm hoping to see some native wildlife. All you could eat buffets here I come!
And you gotta see those glaciers before they melt! haha

Due to some booking issues (among other mix ups) we ended up saving a TON of money on our trip. I promised some pics, so here ya go. I took close to 1,000 pictures, which I'm not going to even attempt to post, so here is the extremely condensed version of our trip.
A few pics of our cabin...

Our gutless little baby car we rented. Mazda 2 series hatchback. To be honest, I ended up really enjoying this little guy a lot! The best part was the 37mpg fuel economy with A/C blasting...

Ahhh im so jealous! Love the pics!
That cabin looks so nice and cozy. I would love to live in something that size, maybe only a tiny bit bigger.
The geyser is especially cool. I definetly hope to visit that part of the country someday.
The car is nice too. Im looking for a new car, gunna def be getting one by the end of the summer, and im leaning heavily towards a Honda Fit. (I think ill make a thread on it soon just to see people opinions.) :)

I almost bought a Honda Fit a couple years ago, but the folks at the dealership rubbed me the wrong way so I walked out. I wish I had gotten it, though, because I hate my Chevy Cobalt with a passion! It was cheaper and has way more power, but its a piece of crap.
The cabin was small, only about 400sq ft. It would be perfect for a single guy/gal or couple without kiddos. It definitely beat some of the apartments we've lived in I think. It had that "cool" factor too it.
Everyone needs to hit up Yellowstone at least once in their lives. Same goes with Vegas.

I never cared for Civics either. Something about them just didn't do it for me, so I feel ya.
You don't have to gamble or even spend a lot of money to have a great time in Vegas. There are all sorts of free and inexpensive attractions. Last time we went we mostly just wandered up and down the Strip (especially at night!) and checked out all the hotels. Each has its own theme and are completely different than the next. They pretty much all offer some sort of exciting exhibit (ie: lion habitat at MGM Grand, dolphins/big cats at Mirage, etc). You can't forget about all the neat shops to visit, endless show choices, countless clubs and the food... Oh man, you can get some amazing eats in Vegas. Wicked Spoon in the Cosmopolitan Hotel and The Buffet in the Bellagio Hotel are amazing. Another thing, if you're over 21 and like to drink, there are no public intoxication laws, so you can walk up and down the Strip drunk as a skunk with a yard cup of daiquiri and a bag of Jello shots from Fat Tuesday's and no one will hassle you (unless you're belligerent).

I will be going to Carcassonne, France in about three weeks time. Home to one of the best preserved Medieval walled cities in Europe and the site of a giant Cathar (heretic) fortress! We'll be stopping in Toulouse as well. Gearing up to drink some French wine and *hopefully* see the sun for a week! (The UK is off to a hopelessly wet summer. I've never seen so much water in June!)
