Ideas for good breeding "foundaton"
What started out as a simple pet has turned into a passion to learn more about bp's, as well as breeding beautiful babies.
i too like other threads have said I am doing my homework about as much as I can. I have decided to (well per girlfriend decided for me lol) limit the amount to 6 for the time being.
I am looking for opinions and ideas of what morphs to include as a build my base. I plan on starting with all babies and working my way towards learning more as they mature into breeding age.
Right now I have 1.0 Spider and a very beautiful (and fiesty) 0.1 Mojave.
Also, weather I should concentrate of stabling all females? or all Males?
Thanks in advance for your opinions an guidance :-)

If you're working with a 6 snake limit, I would suggest you end up with 4 females total, your Spider male, and one other double co-dom male like a Pastel Lesser, or KingPin.

Yes normals would be good if you're looking to produce numerous base morphs. The main reason you would buy normal females is to increase your production or chances of production. Maybe some of the females you have might not want to go a certain year so you'll miss out, which is why you cover that base by increasing the amount of females who could possibly produce for you.
It really depends on what you want. Are you trying to spend a little to buy snakes so you can sell offspring and hopefully make a little cash? Or are you trying to produce tons of cool combos or maybe your favorite combos? Or do you have a specific project in mind (AX killerbee, panda pied, etc...)...
For me, I want to produce morphs I haven't seen before :gj:. I spent a lot of money, but it's all worth it to be able to potentially unwrap a gift that I and only I have seen :D. Some day.... :P..
Think about what you want to produce and what you want out of breeding. That should give you a good idea where to start :gj:. Post your thoughts :gj:!

Like slim said getting a double codom male like a kingpin or pastel lesser would be a great idea, they combine really well with your mojave: BELs and Jigsaws with the Kingpin X Mojave pair and BELs and Pastaves from the Pastel Lesser X Mojave pairing so its which ever you like as far as that, of course its entirely up to you whether you choose to get a double codom male. If you wanted to break them down, breeding them to normals wouldnt be a bad start but I would maybe just get one normal and then another female maybe a pastel so you could get bumblebees from the spider; Lemonblasts, Emperor Pins and Pastel Lessers from a Kingpin X pastel pairing if you choose to go with something like that. Kingpins are a bit more spendy when compared to pastel lesser but for good reason as they are super cool. Pastel lessers are pretty sweet too!
Check out some sites for pricing and check out the Genetic Wizard on world of ball pythons and play around with it if you havent already.
I hope this has helped a bit. Good Luck! :gj:

Since you have decided on a number, next is budget.
I agree with 4 females and 2 males. Normal females are fine, but you really should try to get at least single gene gals.
If I were starting from scratch with your Spider and Mojave, I would get the following:
Female:
YB
Calico
Enchi
Mojave
(also consider Fire or Pinstripe)
Male:
Spider
Pastel YB or Pastel Lesser or Firefly
You can make a ton of exciting and currently hot morphs with that set-up.

x2 on that. I am slowly getting the morphs i want, because i have a certain idea in mind with what i would like to see and produce.
I also agree with Jinx on the Pastel Lesser or Fire Fly male.

I would get a king pin or pastel lesser male. Then the rest would be adult females like a couple normals or yellowbelly balls. That's just me:)

My recommendation would be get your girls first wait a year and buy your boys. There are 3 reasons why, 1 it slowly builds your collection so you aren't overwhelmed with multiple animals. 2 it gives your girls a full year head start so your males and females will be ready at the same time and 3 you can spend your entire yearly budget on less animals in turn getting you higher value morphs. So year 1 girls year 2 boys year 3 incubator and supplies for eggs and babies. That's just my $.02 though. Have fun and share what you get, when you get them!

tell us what your budget is for all 4 snakes and then we'll be able to give you a bit more direction.

Re: Ideas for good breeding "foundaton"
I was hoping to get my female base together this year for under 1.5k... Then save up for a powerhouse co-Dom (kingpin, lesser past, etc) for year 2....
As far as projects goes, I really like all the bees and the pesters is what my girlfriend likes. She also like the silver bullet
BP, but we aren't even gonna go there.
I have slowly become a fan of the pinstripes tho, especially as they get older... Mojo's are my favorite (for now) lol

Since you already have the Mojave female. Is the $1500 just for the 3 additional females?
If so I would look at a Pastel Lesser, Enchi and Pinstripe or Black Pastel female.
-
$1500? Sounds like a pewter and a pin girl are in you future : ). Maybe add an enchi or fire as well? I tend to love the recessive so not great on co-doms. You can go basic and get a pastel, cinnamon and pin and have money to spare?
Really the most important thing is what do YOU love, because that is what is important while the little brats test your patience!

If they are half of a meany that my mojo is being right now, I wont have the patience by then :D
I am getting a decent rack from a herp buddy of mine that is cutting back to just doing geks. If I include the cost of the two I got so far plus that rack Im gonna be halfway to the budget that I made for myself...
Im thinking a Pin, Pastel , YB and Mojo
My crazy spider and save up for the kingpin :-)
I cant get over how much "option" having a KP would do... Its gonna be a fun couple of years to get ready :gj:

Knowing your budget now, with the girls for $750 I'd get a pin, pastel, and yb. You can find excellent examples of these morphs and stay with in your budget. Next year go all out on one male I'd get either super mojo or a sterling pastel.
Edit: just noticed you listed the same girls as I did. And kingpin isn't a bad choice at all either!
-
Here's my recommendation:
1.0 Lesser Enchi
-----------------------
0.1 Yellowbelly
0.1 Pastel (search high and low, and get a really good one).
0.1 Piebald
You already have the spider male and the mojave female, so that makes 6.
This will enable you to make BELs, bumblebees, etc...the potential is huge. Down the road, you can make Enchi pieds, spieds, etc. Enchi-Lesser 100% het pied will have a high value, and help you get back your investment. :)

Re: Ideas for good breeding "foundaton"
IMO, using a lower value male to more expensive females is kind of a waste of good morph females.
So I would sell your spider, giving you $1600 to play with. You could end up with a couple normal breeder females, a pewter or bee male to breed to your normals this upcoming fall, as well as a couple 2 gene females (bee, pewter, other).
M - Pewter
F - Normal
F - Normal
F - Mojave
F - Bee
F - Pewter
6 snakes. You will be producing babies next spring/summer.
