New Snake Not happy :( need advice
So i purchased this lesser and received her today. Open the box to notice her bubbling at the mouth. I didn't panic figured it was just from shipping and it would go away in a couple days... So I gave her a couple hours in her setup because im sure she was stressed and i just took her out to check her out a little more and discovered this...
    http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/y...g?t=1337277835
she was also listed at 1700g and when i weighed her she was 1200 maybe she was that weight at some point because she seems pretty thin to me..:taz:
    http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/y...g?t=1337277837
I don't know how to approach the situation and was wondering if you guys could help me... I contacted a vet and there willing to check her out... It almost looks like one of her hemipenes is inverted IDK what does it look like to you...:rolleye2: Im going to give it the weekend before i contact the seller i just sent him a couple txts about the issue and going to give him a call on monday.. Im not going to point any fingers or list any names because im not like that..

I'm not sure what is up in those pictures, but bubbling at the mouth almost always means RI. That snake need a vet ASAP

She kinda has that "I just laid eggs" look.

I'd definitely contact the seller and express all of your concerns. I'd go ahead and schedule a vet visit too, if nothing else just to ease your mind.

I don't see how anyone could make mistakes like that. You can tell it is VERY skinny, probable URI, cloacal injury and the weight isn't anywhere near what the seller claimed it to be. I'd understand if it was 1,600g, that is fair enough, but there is a 500g discrepancy here. That is almost 1/3 of its weight missing! That is a MAJOR difference! I'd love to hear the sellers side of this story.

I'm a nice guy too, but I would throw a fit! I would never conduct such shady business. It sounds to me like this seller is playing you for a fool.

I was thinking the same thing. Could also explain the weight difference ( prelay/postlay weights ).

You need to document everything and contact the seller ASAP! Tell them you are not happy with this situation. If the seller offers to have you ship the snake back, you should probably take them up on that offer.

This animal is not what you paid for. Don't let the seller get over on you.

I second the comments that she looks like she dropped eggs recently (mine lose ~25% of their prelay weights). The bubbling indicates a fairly advanced RI (would not have happened that quickly just during overnight shipping). Also, she wouldn't have hemipenes, only males do.

Normally I advocate working through it with the seller, but in this situation, I would insist that he send a prepaid return shipping label and give either a full refund or a partial one and ship her back once she is healthy, IF you are set on having her. Do not spend your personal money on vet visits, since it does not appear that the seller has earned the benefit of the doubt in reimbursing your expenses.

I would definately contact seller ASAP. Bubbling = RI = vet. Not sure about other issue. Like others said, document EVERYTHING. Good luck.

While I agree that the animal needs to see a Vet, the down side is that once you take her to the Vet, it kind of becomes your problem. I have a hard time believing any seller that would ship a snake in that condition will be quick to help with the Vet bills.

Of course, the circumstances around this whole snake seem a little sketchy, so this may be your problem already. Fingers crossed that the seller will let you ship the snake back.

Doubt you'll find any hemipenes on a girl. Just sayin.

Other than that...Very sorry to see this. I also agree...Looks like she dropped eggs recently. That would possibly explain 1700-1200 gram weight discrepency. I would contact the seller ASAP to at least bring the issues to light. Waiting too long will not help your case.

    Good luck.

    Immediately contact the seller.
And I agree she looks like she just dropped a small clutch. Hey pick her up and see if she has the empty just laid look to the last third of her body.
Ill try and grab a picture of one of my girls that laid just a few days ago incase you don't understand what that look is. It's the totally deflated empty nothing in the bottom third look.
Either way document every single thing. Everything. Things smell like fish on this one.
    Hope everything works out.

I maybe wrong in saying this, but I would try to fix the problem before possibly shipping her back if that is an option. She may not make the trip back to the seller. If you cure her and all is well and still wanna send her back I would have the seller pay for the vet fees. But, I would also let the seller know that these are your intensions before you go ahead and treat the problem. Although if you are able to cure her you probably would wanna keep her and have the seller pay the expenses just because that's the right thing for him/her to do... Just a thought.

    Don
Add another to "she looks like she just laid eggs" camp. In fact, that was my first reaction to the picture before I read any responses.

Contact the seller immediately and tell him that the snake needs to be returned asap and that a refund should be issued. Also, I would tell the seller that they need to schedule a vet visit for this snake the day it gets back.

Definitely do that, so that others don't have to deal with someone who thinks it's okay to ship a snake out like that. Frankly, he should be ashamed of himself.

Hopefully, he decides to turn the phone back on and answer your emails, and take care of this.

Did you research him beforehand and nothing bad showed up?

The cloaca doesn't scream infected to me. It definately looks inflamed. That could be due to a overexcitable male or in this case i personally think laying. Perhaps a sugar paste would be in order. Maybe that would take some of the inflammation out. If there was an infection there wouldn't be oozy puss or anything. Reptile puss is very hard like old cheese that's been sitting on a counter for a week.
Keep her on papertowel so bedding doesn't aggravate her cloaca more. Grab some plain white sugar and mix with a bit of water to make a paste. Out it on her cloaca, you can try and wrap it with something. I know another member had a thread of a strong breeder male that needed the sugar paste. He wrapped it with something to keep it covered. I'm on tapatalk so I'll try and find it. I think it was a thread by Rich called oh the joys of breeding.
Hope this helps a little at least for now.

The first thing I would do is to contact the seller, mention the issues show him the pictures and tell him you are not happy with your purchase and that you want to return the animal for a full refund, be nice about it and see what is has to say.

Make sure that all communication is done via email so it can be documented in case you need to take this further.

If you take the animal to a vet before contacting the seller, the seller has no obligation to pay for the vet of your choice and can always argue that if you were unhappy you should have returned the animal instead (seen this scenario go down a few times)

    Good luck.

I paid through paypal. Even more shady he linked the tracling number through paypal so paypal has confermation that the item was indeed shipped... still no contact if nothing by monday im thinking about putting a police report in and maybe have them pay a visit... that may wake him up. Can paypal help me out in this situation?

You can certainly file a complaint to paypal. Do this asap. You can dispute a transaction it's under their products and services then click others.

Dispute the Paypal charges. Reasoning will be you did not receive the item you paid for. That animal is in no way what you paid for.

^^^ Agreed with the above. I've disputed a few things with Paypal and won. They will often ask for any communication you guys had, who responded to who, and give each party a chance to tell their side of the story.

Meaning, if you file a complaint, the seller HAS to communicate in order to defend his case. If he does not respond and you are claiming that he will not give you a refund because he will not respond to your e-mails, Paypal will typically rule with the person who is initiating the communication.

    It's a win-win either way.

That will either force him to reply to you, or you will win the case and get your refund.

Do this immediately, and just be clear and straightforward when you file your dispute with Paypal. Keep a copy of that as well. I saved my Paypal communication via screenshots as well.

A Police report will do nothing. Pp may or may not help. They do not cover live animals though and there are a few reasons a shifty seller can win out in a complaint. I won't get into that now. Just save everything, perhaps the boi may help. I know it's helped me in the past when Pp wouldn't help me.
Just be prepare that sometimes these situations don't get resolved well. And If you make any sort of complaint anywhere get your ducks in a total row. Pictures, emails (screen shots help) Txts (screen shots help) and any fb communication (again screen shots) before you post that complaint. Tell the whole story.

So an update on this whole situation... Just wanted to thank you again for your interests input and support. I took the snake to the vet today, i just couldn't wait any longer... The vet told me she is very skinny for her size, has a small mouth infection, cloaca infection and RI that is pretty bad. But there is hope for this one the doctor prescribed baytril .3ml 10 day treatment so hopefully this will clear up everything. I really hope she gets on food soon because she is very very skinny for her size and the vet showed the same concerns. The seller is still not cooperating with me and i have put up a BOI up on him. You can check it out on fauna and let me know what you think pref. in PM's. Really bummed and hope this snake pulls through.
