Picked up 3 BP today
-
Pastel
Pastel
Het. Pied
???
They look nice to me :)
-
Hot pastel, pastel and het pied? I am awful at guessing. That first one is beautiful and the other 2 are nice looking.
-
Well after looking up on line at what he said they were I'm kind of iffy about them now. At least we didn't pay much for them, we got the 3 of them for 300$ so its not a total loss but still a little peed off.
-
What did the seller tell you they were?

He said the first one was a pastel cross pinstripe, the second was a het ghost and the third was a chocolate. We are new to this and i guess they were more of a impulse buy ( we just didn't want to drive 2 hours and come back with nothing) but we new well enough not to get the vanilla, she was in bad shape. ( if i had the $450 he wanted for her to spare i would have bought her just to get her away from him). We learnt our lesson and from now on we are only going to buy off people we know and trust.
-
3rd girl looks like she could be black pastel? I see a great pastel, a low grade pastel and what is either a normal or a Black Pastel.. or cinnamon.. The pattern looks off to be normal.. That's just me, maybe i'm seeing things.
-
oh no, he played you.. there is no pinstripe genes in there.. and if he was lying to you about that than I would guess that your het.s are not het either but you never know. That pastel is gorgeous though.
EDIT: A female pastel that nice, and that size.. I would say you did good. I would pay 300 for a breeder size female pastel that nice..
-
Re: Picked up 3 BP today
I would double check on the sex of those girls if I were you. Calling 2 pastels a lemon blast and het ghost, and a normal (could be het pied?) as a chocolate would make me wonder if he knew the difference btw male and female. That top pastel looks pretty cool though none the less!!

I don't want to sound like I'm kicking someone while they're down, but this is why doing your research is so important. As soon as the guy said Pastel x Pinstripe, you should have been late for the door. A Pastel x Pinstripe is a Lemonblast, and that first snake, while a beautiful Pastel, is not a Lemonblast.
But, at the end of the day, you have three females for your breeding project, and a lesson learned.
-
I know there no pictures of the snake on it but we also got this with them. We both feel dumb falling for this, but life goes on and we learn as we go.

I would have them sexed by a legit breeder before i call all them females. The guy scammed him one way, i would not be at all surprised if he has 2 pastel males and a normal male...

Thank you, Mike. That is an excellent point!

EDIT: it says guranteed and has his sig on it. I consider myself to be fairly knowledgable of bp morphs and im telling you none of those 3 are what he guranteed they were. Go get your money back, hes legally obligated to since you got a signed receipt.
-
They will sexed when we could find someone to sex them, we don't know how to sex them yet. I may just google it and try it tonight.
-
lol oh ya look at that, oh well we learned our lesson. the only good thing is that we got one good looking snake. Bash away we may learn even more. lol
-
I honestly wouldnt even bother getting them sexed, im willing to bet money that all 3 are males. Just go get your money back and put it towards buying from a legit breeder.
(is what i would do*)

A guy named Denis Eady in Cobden, Ontario. Don't really care if he is a member here hope he reads this.
-
1) pastel
2) pastel
3) normal until proven otherwise
If they really are all female, then $300 is a really good deal. But it looks bleak at the moment since it seems this guy either doesn't know what he's talking about or he's scamming you.
Try looking up videos on YouTube. It's safer to pop than probe. Probing is potentially dangerous if you don't know what you're.doing. (hint when popping: you want more pressure than you expect)

Not even going to waste my time with him, we our just going to take the loss and move on. Even if we contact him we probably will have a hard time getting our money back. Don't really feel like drive 4 hours (2 there and 2 back).

Oh i didnt realize it was that far away. Yea i would just cut my losses then too. Hopefully at least one of them turns out to be a female. If the first snake is female then the deal is worth it bc thats a nice looking pastel!
-
I have a question about popping, I just looked at a youtube video and was wondering if it hurts the snakes? We are willing to try but wondering if we can hurt them.
-
On the bright side, that first snake is really nice. I love the connected head strip thing he/she has going on. :)

Yes, it can hurt them if done incorrectly. I urge you to find someone with experience to show you how to do it.
-
Thanks ok I will try and find someone that pop them. Thanks guys for all your help.
-
Am I the only idiot who is seeing YB in that first snake?
The second is just a pastel.
The last has a strong het pied marker, but I would not hold my breath that it is.
I have to tell you, even if that first snake is a male, I'd love to have it in my collection. I don't have a really nice pastel yet.
Sorry you went through all the headache, for what is more likely than not a waste of your time, sometimes we have to learn the hard way. I know I did. Bought myself a lovely hatchling YB female, and like an idiot I believed the guy when he said she was eating well. After 5 months with me without a single meal, I passed her on to someone with more experience than me. Last I heard, she still only eats about every other month and is around 900 grams at 4 years old.
To bad you are in Canada, I would have been tempted to buy that one from you.

I actually thought PYB originally due to the intense flames, but thought it was too good to be true in regards to this whole situation

Is it safe to say that the first is a Pastel? Sorry I can't edit my last post.
-
^ I would call that a pastel for sure, and he/she is pretty nice IMO.
-
I see two pastels and a normal with cool RR tracks which might be possible het pied.

Snakes, Jeeps, Dragons, Nature, & Knives.. Makes my world go-round!

2 pastel the first 2 pictures? And whats RR tracks? sorry I'm still learning. lol So will get them sexed and buy a male or female het pied and find out I guess.
-
The head, belly, and the look of the flames made me think PYB too, but at this point its safe to say beautiful pastel until proven otherwise. Its also very unfortunate about the female Vanilla situation.
I too had my first run-in with a scammer the other say. The seller was trying to pass off a 300g pastel as a young adult female ready to breed this fall, and a reduced pattern normal as an Enchi. The seller then wantes to call me and get dramatic(for lack of a better word) because i wouldnt take his word for it and was asking for verifying info on the Enchi, which clearly seller couldnt provide.
The situation was commical but at the same time very disappointing because people like that are really out there. Its not hard to educate yourself, especially if its a hobby like this youre getting into.
Ive learned a lot from you guys, staying frequent in the forums here, and doing my own research.
-
I'm just going to say 0.0.1 pastel and 0.0.2 unknown till I know better. Thanks again for all your help.
-
Interesting, unusual head pattern on that first one. Kind of reminds me of the deserts. You're sure it's a female? :O
-
We were told they all were female but not sure anymore, haven't found anyone to sex them yet.
-
I agree, since he "gaurented" them, you should ask for some money back. If they turn out male I would flip. They look like pastels and a normal. I wouldn't hold your breath on them being het for anything, he obviously knows little to nothing about genetics.
-
We are just going to take the loss and move on. I can't tell you that there will be no more impulse buy or we drove here is for nothing so lets just buy something. lol So everyone has been saying 2 pastel and a normal, I know the first one is a pastel so the second one also looks like a pastel and the last one normal?
-
The first one is an outstanding pastel.
The second is an average pastel.
The third is a normal who has a slim chance of being het pied. If you like to play the lottery, breed it and find out. Otherwise, just treat it as a normal.

About the third ball I was just wondering why you guys think that it may be het pied? I know there a good chance that its not but I was just wondering why ppl think it may be.

There's not really a way to know for sure with hets except to breed them, but sometimes there are things, 'markers', that tend to crop up a lot in certain hets. In this case, there is a railroad track marker on the belly that often is related to het pieds. There are a few good threads around discussing them if you're interested, just search 'het pied marker.'
Here's one:
http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...et+pied+marker
And here's a good photo/explanation on a thread from another site:
http://www.reptileradio.net/reptiler...ad.php?t=20314
Hope this helps. Learning your morphs is kind of overwhelming and exciting at the same time!
-
Thanks I'll go and check that out.
P.S. I know the only way to be sure is to breed them and we may just pick up a 100% het pied and breed it.
-
I can also see a pastel, a pastel in shed, and a normal possibly a het for pied due to the marker. Sorry for havin to learn things the hard way when it comes to determining and buying BP morphs. May this just be a reminder to newbies to research before spending any hard earned money. This is what BP.net for. There's alot of information and people here that is willing to help newbies avoid this kind of situation.
-
After thinking about it we decided to keep the first Pastel and sell the last two as normals. To help fund other ball python we would like to get.
-
The second BP photo'd looks to be a potentially good pastel to me, she/he just appears to be in shed?
