Allright, I'm probably overreacting, but you know how us noobs can be.....
My bp is driving his face into the astroturf and running it along the floor. Looks to me like a basic shedding move........but he's not shedding.
No skin flakes, eyes are clear (they were a little cloudy when I first got him, you can see it in my pics of him, but after a day or so of proper humidity, they are clear and shiny).
    Do they just do this?
Again, first bp and all, but you know how it is when your buddy does something wierd for the first time.............

oh yeah, I checked very thouroughly for mites and he's clean.........

The only thing that could possibly be something is retained eye caps. Do his eyes have little creases in them, like the look wrinkley? If not, mine do that sometimes as well. I don't doubt that they get itches, LOL.

Nothing to worry about, I say. He's just got an itch.

And yeah, I do know what you mean about about first bp's and all. ;)

Most snakes will do that when they are looking for a way out of their cage.

lol, that's about what I figured......
His eyes look great, best I've seen em. Been on the humidity like a good papa should!
As for trying to get out, I had just put him back in from handling for about 15 minutes. I probably stressed him out a little and he was trying to disappear.......plenty of hides, but sometimes I guess you just need to get gone!
Not to worry, he's fine now....nice and mellow again!
    Thanks for the tips, guys

wait...did it already shed? if not...thats what its trying to do...their eyes go cloudy, then clear up, then they shed (i dunno if you new to all snakes or just ball pythons...so i thought id throw that out there). if it already shed....maybe its skin is a little sensitive and it feels good to rub its nose. one of mine does that a little too for about a day after it sheds.

Mine does that. It wants to get under the turf for it's hide. It's diggin away at the edges to get in.

hahaha I'm a retard! Woke up this morning and he had shed! No I'm not new to snakes, just bp's.
I guess I just expected thier skin to look a little shabbier just before the shed. His color was good......now is real nice!
Oh well live and learn
    LOL thanks again folks

    The Post-Christmas joke...
Still waiting for Magellan to finish up his shed. Maybe the incoming storm will raise the humidity a bit more and help out in that regard.

Speaking of the humidity thing, I have been having a little trouble keeping the humidity where it needs to be. No matter what I try, it won't go up. I have misted the whole cage, and changed the water bowl to a bigger one, covered one side of the top of the cage, and even bought another hygrometer to make sure the one I had originally wasn't bad. They both give me the same reading. The most I have gotten up to is 50%. It is usually between 40-45%. What can I do to get it up to 60-70%? Thanks,

    you bet
I found duct tape works pretty swell. Check out my pic of my tank in my album......used a razor to cut the hole. Just make it a little bigger than the light (if you're using one) for heat release and air flow. Water bowl is over heat pad for more humidity. Keeps it at 50 to 60 with next to no misting. I also picked up a nice big sponge for during shed time and when moist will bump up the humidity 5 or 10 percent more. I just stick it in the cooler end and that does the trick. Also if you have a piece of driftwood in there, wet it down and that also throws long term humidity.
LOL, this works for me, wish you luck! Anything to help keep you from having to hover around your tank with a spray bottle in each hand all day!

Wow! I didnt know BP's could shed so fast. I had just been holding Monty Joe less then 2 hour's ago. He was acting fidgity so I decided to put him back in his tank. Went back a little while later and noticed he was out and about (which he hadnt come out of his hide for the last few day's except when I held him) and low and behold, A perfect shed. Nothing like the last shed where it was in a million pieces. I thought it took longer than an hour or so, guess I was wrong. Guess I also got the humidity right this time.

the faster they shed, the better the humidity is for them. keep it how you got it, sounds like youre doing wonderful.

I've noticed too that positioning a water dish over the UTH or partially under the heat lamp will raise the humidity better, since warm water evaporates more quickly than cold water. I had to move Phil's water dish, as it was just slightly over the UTH, and the humidity in his terrarium was running too high.

I tried the duct tape on half of the top and it worked. The humidity is up to 60%. Excellent idea. Just another reason for us to be able to use duct tape. Woo hoo!!! Thanks.

Magellan finished up his shed sometime Thursday or Friday, and as near as I could tell, it all came off in one piece. Now he's got his nice colors back and nicely clear eyes.

I'm looking very closely my bp, because I think she is starting the shed cycle again because her color is now very dark and she's staing in her warm or cold hide almost all the time that usually she is moving around and exploring the tank. After seen that I boost my humidity to the mid to high 70 like the last time hoping to get a perfect shed like the last time. :D .
