Glad I didn't make the choice
So, my roommate Tommy came around to handling one of my ball pythons. It was my male juvy (this is the one I let kids handle at presentations). He wanted this one because it is not head shy and seems to be friendly. So I told him I would let him have it under some stipulations. 1. creat an account on bp.net (check), 2 study the three care sheets I gave him and I will quize him over them. and 3 learn to keep the bass off in his room (he loves to blast his stereo like its a concert or something).

he told me a he saved the care sheets and will look at them as needed. WOW. I asked I fed silver last night and he came in to get him out, I asked him how long you wait after a snake has eaten before handling. he was like duh 30 minutes to an hour. I told him to leave the snake alone and go back and study the care sheets and get active on BP.net

also another trigger was this, his girlfriend told one of her friends that was over that silver was a big snake. Silver is an 850gram 2 feet Ball python. She said yeah thats big enough, and that my 2200 4 foot female ball was too big. I said you know Silver is going to get bigger right? and get to around 3 to 4 feet. She was like that is too big.

I pulled the plug on this deal. I told him he does not have what it takes to own a snake.

He told me that the snake would have to get used to the bass. and then asked if there was anything that he could set the cage on to not transfer the vibration. I told him no and to shut up and look for another pet.

I'd say good call on that. I knew someone recently who was just 'up in the air' about reptiles. She went out and bought a couple (a snake, a beardie, a leopard gecko, two sungazers and a tokay gecko). Low and behold, the animals started to suffer horribly. Since she was one of my boyfriend's roommates, I was over a lot. I started telling her how to improve their set-ups, and I was shut down for being a 'know it all'. Soon the beardie started having seizures. The BP wouldn't eat. The sungazers wouldn't move and had terrible sheds and what looked like... decaying scales? The leopard gecko ended up with an eye infection. The Tokay she 'sold' in a week (to me, because she was trying to sell it to some guy who thought it 'looked cool' and would be 'neat to have in his garage').

..... Now she has sold all of her animals except the snake. Within 5 months. The only reason her animals survived is because she finally listened to me... because she 'couldn't afford a vet and might as well try everything'.

GOOD CALL on not giving that guy your snake. People like that want them because they 'look cool' or 'are cool'. I mean, if you can't even turn your music down, do we really think he would act appropriately if the snake was showing signs of illness? Would he even care?

No, you made the right choice. Otherwise you'd get a phonecall one day about how the snake is 'sick', and go over to find a burned, skinny, lethargic snake. You'd probably be told: "It didn't look like this last week." And other nonsense.

And if your snake is as sweet and non-headshy as you say it is... It's worth better owners.

It's a good thing you saved the snake from certain doom, stereos and handling after a meal are horrible things to do to a ball python :P

He is learning... though I told him to get active o. Here study anxious research not just how it's done but why it's done. I told him if he done this I would ld make sure he gets the friendliest bp I can find and the prettiest. I just wish I had of done the research before I bought. I mean I didn't impulse buy it was pland and saved for but I didn't research until I seen my snake yawn one day

I'm pretty sure if music damaged a snake I'd have plenty of hurt snakes.
It'd be a bit dumb to have the snake too close to a bass speaker, but I have yet to see any issues with them listening to some head banging music now and then.
A few of mine seem to enjoy some system of a down and rage against the machine over metallica or green day.
None of them seem overly happy about my kids playing rap music though

Well if that was the case I would be getting pissed too as his roomate. And all your neighbors must be complaining too. Especially if he listens to crap like dubstep.

I laughed right out loud with that one. I mean, I myself enjoy Evanescence now and then, but there's a limit. And a volume limit to those songs. Unless he's feel particularly angsty? Haha.

I think you really saved a snake in that situation...

And the rap comment... Oh man...

There's a reason Nickelback got rocks thrown at them on a national tour in Portgual or wherever it was...rofl...Terrible, terrible, terrible! Not worse than Hinder though. Ugh.
I play Behemoth in the car when I take Nergal to the vet in his tub, he does fine, we play loud video games and music in my room especially on feeding day and they're ok. Happy--I'm not sure, but not harmed I don't think.
I'd say good idea about the no-go though, at least not until that person learns more about snakes. I didn't do research before my bp either and I wish I had because I would have gotten a rack system instead of blowing money on glass tanks that aren't nearly as healthy for them :colbert:
    Lame.
Thank you for educating the world about snakes! <3

Re: Glad I didn't make the choice
yeah he wasn't too happy when I told him I couldn't let him have the Silver.

another thing that made me change my mind was he said because he was the friendliest, and never jumped back or hissed or tried to bite. I even told him that he can still bite, and that he is not tame. I mean he was really looking forward to it so I kind of felt bad for not letting him have silver but I wanted to keep the best intrest in the snake and not the man that could cause the snake harm or illness.
