    Dungeons and Dragons Players? Anybody?
    Hello Everyone!

My friends got me into playing the free to play online game called Dungeons and Dragons Online or DDO for short. Well after playing for about a month I really started to want to play Pen and Paper. Well after making classified ads seeing if anyone in my area plays I got no responses which kinda sucked but I also didnt have the $300 for books anyways lol So what some of my online buddies are doing are playing Dungeons and Dragons Pen and Paper over Team speak 3 (voice comms.) I was able to find a download with all the 3.5 Edition Books since thats what our DM/GM uses. So for the last week we have been all playing Dungeons and Dragons over voice comms. Kinda different but its really fun I am completely a nooob to D&D this is my first time playing it!!

So anyone else out there play D&D?

My Girlfriend plays it occasionally. Going to an engineering academy in high school, and now an engineering major in college I have been surround by D&D players for years now, but I can't bring myself to play lol

I have always been a big geek and stuff like that and really been into fantasy. I love Pen and Paper D&D for the soul fact that I can let my imagination run free. Its nice to be able to do with how locked our minds are now a days.

Welcome to the D&D world! I am a total nerd/geek/whatever label you want to give me. I'm currently playing a 4E campaign online over oovoo (free 6-way video chat) with some friends. In person is better, but I do like the convenience of doing it online.

Used to play about 20 years ago, does that count? Yeah, I was one of those nerds clustered in the hallway at lunch time, and always had a bag of dice and character sheets on me.

Play any way you can! If you want to get a nice D&D video gaming experience, check out Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2 on PC. Awesome games and were precursors to console games like Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age. The games will look dated, but they are awesome. I think they are even going to release iPad versions of those games.

I play D&D both live and over Skype. Got some of my WoW guildies into it about a year ago but they live on the east coast so we run campaigns over the comp. The live versions are so much more fun though, especially if you get a group that rp's more than just wants to be in combat. Personally, I prefer 2nd edition and 3.5 over 4 though. Having the books in pdf form is useful as well.
I will note that the 6 person gaming table we built works great for taking pictures of the snakes though!

It could be worse... I have 2 lvl 85's and we aren't going to talk about some of my guildies. One of them has over 20 85's. 6 of them are druids and it's all because he wanted to raid more but was tired of his toons being saved.

Lol yes apparently it could be a lot worse.
Idk how people keep it up, it gets pretty repetitive after a while. I also need a game to escape from work and people, WOW makes it so I had to deal with people even In a game.

The catch there is to find people you like to deal with. I have a core group that I run with and we have fun. Nothing like having your main DPS take a shot every time he dies or chatting so much about the stupid stuff we've done that we end up wiping on trash mobs. We get along so well that come August, we'll all be getting together at GenCon and most of us go every year. Only problem is it interferes with Daytona so one of these years, I'm going to have say no to GenCon and head south.

Yay gamers :) I know our local game store has d&d nights there, look into yours and see if they offer it. I got some of my books at half price books, but they're not the most recent edition. I'm a second ed player, although I like how simple 3rd ed is. There are d&d comp games too, neverwinter nights is awesome.

I played wow since the beginning, played all the time at first but now I'm kinda tired of it. I'm a starcraft junkie, and waiting desperately on D3 next week!

I've tried to find a few local groups through P&P Games, but the groups have been kind of scary. (One DM canceled due to "WoW Guild Drama." I don't play and that wasn't a great advert. Another DM told me he was so happy I was interested because having a girl at the table meant the other guys would be more likely to shower...:weirdface)

I've done a little over Skyping and would love to get involved in another group. I've always used Skype for the screen share and web cam abilities, but not all the players need to have web cams - just good connections. I'm still a bit of a 2nd player, but have played enough 3.x to accept it as D&D, but I will never play 4th ed again! Yuk! Pathfinder is ok, but everyone wants to play crazy house rules that are never balanced or well thought out. :( So that's been a bit of a turn off. I'm curious to read up on these other connection methods.

LOL! Ok, that just made both my and my hubby's night reading that first part. I'm the only girl in our group but seeing as either my husband or I DM, the guys better shower or they get to go back home and don't get fed. You'd be amazed at how big of an incentive home cooking can be. ;)

I'm still trying to find ways to make Skype work well for gaming and if anyone has any thoughts, let me know. We have a gaming table that's 8'x4' and I can put the mic in the middle but it's still hard to hear on both ends. Granted, it's hooked up to my laptop but the guys on Skype want to be able to see the table for layout as well. The only idea I've gotten so far is to install a camera directly above the table but I draw the line at that one.

When I lived in washington state I played D&D p&p and magic the gathering. It was fun but up there we had card and game shops we would go play in. About the most I play now is Diablo... I am looking forward to playing d3 but I like it because I have a choice to play online or solo, and online is free. I am not much of a gamer. but there are a few PC games I like to keep around. Diablo, Halo CE, Doom (everyone of them) and the first Quake (I wish they would revamp that one), and then I love Microsoft Flight Sim. I love Flight Sim x because it has every airport in the world. Imagine taking off from Galveston air port in 747 (Galveston airport can't handle a 747) and landing in at Clark airfield north of fort worth (again this is a dirt run way) but I love the flight missions and I love playing it online with other pilots.

Glad I could help with the laugh! We used a web cam supported by a lego structure to give perspective on the map when we'd skype. (Usually when players were sick or couldn't drive - at the time I was playing with a group that 2/3 of us drove more than an hour to get there, but it was one of the only sane groups of "adults.") It is also fun if you use legos/minifigs/minis because we'd take the camera down to mini level when the map wasn't needed and it was neat to watch the marching order and such. We only had trouble with the mic when we used the one guy's Dell notebook as it would feedback, my "held together with electrical tape" macbook was always clean and crisp.

I wonder if anyone knows about this website a guy in Canada tried to get me to play on? I've long forgotten the name of it or the system it was running, but it was created for online P&PGing through a web browser: You had a written chat system that you could whisper to the GM or talk to the group, the map took up most of the screen and showed your token person and their line of sight, and it also had buttons to roll dice and control your token's actions. To be honest, it was the roughest thing I'd ever seen, looked worse than 8-bit, but with a little improvement it could be ok addition to a skype game. Anyone have any idea of what I'm trying to remember?

I wonder if anyone would be interested in starting a group?

As I said, I've mostly used Skype, but would be open to other systems. I prefer being a player, but often have DMed "break" campaigns when the main DM needed some time off... I have a pretty cool idea for an adventure if people are interested - but only to get us started, I just can't get into world building/politics long term. ;)
