Sad start to 2012...

Our first clutch of 2012 is due to hatch any day now and one of the eggs looked like it was going bad. It was turning gray/yellow/see through, dimpled really bad and barely any veins. It was close enough to its due date so I cut it and confirmed it was a bad egg. The baby was extremely small (I didn't get a weight yet) and as you can see is deformed. Under the baby was a hard mass of yolk which when I took out had a nice creamy center. I will never forget that smell! It was horrible. I feel horrible. No clue what went wrong, but I suppose it happens to the best of us. Hopefully the other 4 eggs in this clutch are still good. FWIW, pairing was female fire x spider x black pastel x pastel.

Aw no, sorry to see that. Likely it was nothing wrong on your end. Sometimes they are just not meant to make it.

ahhh, sorry for your loss :( as morbidly insensitive as this may come out. thank you for sharing your experience with us. Unfortunately loss is part of the hobby :(

Thanks everyone. Got one pipping right now so the rest shouldn't be far behind. Not sure what the one pipping is just yet, but I know it isn't a spider nor a pastel/firefly.

You couldn't see in the pics, but it appeared to have growths in it. In person it was definitely NOT a normal fetal snake.

The other four are fine. So far it looks like 3 black pastel and 1 normal. They should be fully out here in a day or so.
