Water Snake?????

we have a few month old male pastel ball named Ziggy.... He stays in his water bowl alot. and when i say alot, its more like 12 hours at a time...

temps on the basking area are at 91* cool side is at 80* humiditiy is 45-50%

And he especially does it after his meals..

Now i know there is nothing wrong with hm just curious is to weather anyone elses BP's bathe like ours.. Have a great weekend everyone

What size prey are you feeding him? Sometimes they will soak after a big meal. My pastel loves his water bowl soemtimes, especially during a shed. I keep my humidity at the appropriate percentage during a shed and my male still likes to soak.

Have you checked for mites?

I feed him 2 adult mice (live). he usually eats 1 at feeding day and the other the night after..

I hold him quite often and I never seen any...

Check the water dish, they'd look like tiny black specks in the dish, either floating or sunk. Also, how do you read temps?

Feeding two days in a row is not a normal practice, but since his current prey items are small, it's probably not doing any harm since they generally won't eat if they don't want to.

I would urge you to discontinue this practice when you move him to larger prey like rats. They need some time to digest a larger item before eating again.

Can't help you with the soaking. Usually it's either mites, or too hot in the enclosure. If you've eliminated those, then I guess you might just have a soaker on your hands. Some of them are like that.

What hides do you have? Sometimes if the hides aren't good a BP will try to hide in a water dish.

I further the implication of mites, most of the time snakes will stay in the bowls for extremes amount of time in the presence of mites. You may not see them on the snakes, but it does not mean they are not there. Check his water bowl for specs as described. Here is a shot of what mites look like close up:

If you're using a probe or dial for temp readings, invest in a 20-30 dollar IR temp gun from somewhere like reptilebasics. This will help rule out whether or not the cage is too hot.

I change his water every 2 days and i inspect and only found some aspen bedding and thats it...I know what mites look like cause my burmese had them when i first got her...

I have flukers digital therm-hygrometers.. 1 on the hot side and 1 on the cool side..

I have a half log hide on the hot side.. and a fake jungle plant that he hides in on the cool side...

The only reason i was offering 2 mice is because 1 just wasnt filling him up... after eating one he would constantly roam around searching for food like....when i switch prey items it will be an easier choice in size of prey for him

Half logs are not really a good choice of hides for bp's. They are too open and don't provide the security that bp's tend to look for in a hide. I'm not sure if that would cause him to soak like he does but it's something you might consider changing to see if it makes a difference.

Low and behold.. i found 1 mite on Ziggy.. everyone was right thank you....didnt find any in his water but i was checking him again today and we found 1.........Cripes!!!

I went to local pet store today and got some zoo med mite off....hope it works
