Help
Well, I decided I'd post a 'report' on the "Repti Flo 250", as I would highly reccomend it to anyone keeping their bp's in a tank. As we all know, humidity is quite an important factor when it comes to keeping a healthy python. I purchased this product yesterday from Petsmart for about 15 bucks, and the humidity shot up from 45% (without the cling wrap on the top) to 75% in less than 10 minutes. My guess is, the circulation of the water creates more of a mist. The only drawback I can find is, when I woke up this morning the water level had gotten inrecdibly low. But, if you're anything like me, you're in and out of the cage a couple of times a day. So changing water is not a problem at all. Here is a shot of the box, and the fountain in action.
(oh, and i figured it might bother the snake... but I actually think he likes it. I caught him last night drinking FROM THE FOUNTAIN :)...)

Reminds me of those little fountains you see at just about every store you step in. Maybe one of those would be good as well. Some are pretty small and cheap and may be an easy solution to what can sometimes be a time consuming problem!

it works great, for sure. not to mention makes for a cool looking water dish. one day when i have money (oh how i dream of that day), i'm going to go out and buy some nice pretty water dishes for the boys. I just can't stand seeing a $15.99 price tag on something that I can spend less than a dollar on and it serve the same purpose.
-
Will, added it to a block that can now be found on the left side of the site :), nice work

Uhhh, 75% humidity, isn't that risking resp. problems? I have my humidity level at 45-60 % now, and have no prob.
But I am just asking cause I heard on another forum awhile back how someone had thier humidity level that high and thier bp came up with resp. problems. I wonder, can you control it a bit?
-
Not really, but if it already had RI, it'd cause a big problem. Humidity can be an awsome thing for bp's, but 75% is a little borderline... I seriously need to buy those tho....
-
I may consider one, but only if it can be controled a bit...hmmm.
-
-
oh, forgot to mention... it has flow control :)
also, jeanne... the reason for such a high humidity at the moment is because the snake was dehydrated. his eyes were cracking up.
-
Well, after reading your results I went and put a pump in Xaero's waterdish. Pretty much looks just like what you've got going on.
Humidity not a problem now! Mine isn't the repti-flo, but one that I "borrowed" from a desk top waterfall that I have. It has an adjustable flow regulator and seems to work just swell. Only problem is now I've got that "fish tank hum" to listen to. It's not really very loud at all, but I wonder if the constant vibration of the pump won't drive the poor guy nuts!
Ah what the heck...........let me go take a picture!

bubba doesn't seem to mind his at all... just make sure they don't move it to the edge, lol... it gets messy..

I fixed my humidity problem with a Tropic-Aire humidifier with Rena air pump. Makes a very quiet hum noise (quieter than water pumps- this is the quietes air pump I've ever owned), but my BP doesn't seem to mind at all. I only have to add water to the reservoir 1 time a week to every other week. No more worries. See - you can make an aquarium work!

This one's got 4 little suction cups that keep it in place. How well they work.............
Naw, the noise isn't really much at all. Just kind of wondering as snakes are pretty hip to vibrations........
Well, I'm not going to worry too much about it as he's not freaking out or anything
being as it sits on astro turf, the vibrations should be somewhat muffled. and of course it doesn't rest against the glass!

Personally, I use a water bottle. I just mist the cages whenever the humidity levels drop below 45.
-
this way you don't have to even worry about it at all. BELOW 45? jesus.

Pump works extremely well. 55% constant humidity with adjustable flow for shed time.
I used to spray, too. Just got tired of being a slave to humidity.

I got a Repti Flo 250 earlier this evening. Put it in the water on one of the lowest settings. A few minutes ago, I heard this weird noise. I came in to see what it was, and my bp had his tail wrapped around it picking it up and water shooting everywhere while he was climbing up the cord. Now the bottom of his cage is soaked. I unplugged it, of course. Guess he was trying to escape with it. Anybody have any crazy experiences with their bp and the Repti Flo?
-
Yeah, I knocked mine over and soaked the cage, too. Am currently trying out a humidifier that I threw together to see which works better. The pumps work well, but I think I want a few less moving parts in thier world. I'm also curious to see if he comes out more with the pump gone as I have been wondering if the vibration drives him nuts. I have seen him drink a time or two, but never soak and no sign that any soaking transpired in the night when I wake up and check the tank. Hey Will, didn't you say that Bubba likes it but Peanut doesn't? Or the other way around, but it just goes to show you that what some like, others don't and you never know untill you experiment.......
-
I did the same thing that steelsack and it works great!
I'm going to try to post some pics.

A few pics
What kind of humidifier are you using? I hate to think I just wasted $13. I may try it again before throwing in the towel. Definately get some pics up if you can. Thanks,
Jeremy

The waterfall thing is suctioned to the bottom of the water dish, they both have been in there and it hasn't moved yet but the cord is also secured behind their branch.

Definitely try it out for awhile. Have used my pump for a couple weeks with no problems. Only knocked it over once. The suction cup feet work very well and I was fiddling with it at the time. I just noticed how fast it can empty the dish onto the floor and pictured that happening in the middle of the night.......
Total worse case scenario, of course. Probably never ever happen. Use a largish dish, stick it on real good, no worries.
My snake, however, seemed to behave differently after I put it in. So now I'm running an experiment to see if he didn't appreciate the constant minute vibrations. Now pump is located away from tank and only moist air without a sound or vibe is getting in. Am curious to see results. See what happens when you spend too much time inside during winter?
No, you didn't waste any money. I'm just trying to fix what very well may be a non existant problem. Gotta tinker, you know? I posted some pics if you're interested. Quick project, you understand! She ain't pretty, but funtions well.
-
My Repti Flo did not come with suction cups. Those dirty sons of....... Just kidding. Seriously though. I don't have any suction cups. That explains a lot. I was thinking when I put it in that it was kind of shoddy just leaving it in the water bowl free to move about.
