Female desert actually laid fertile eggs?
Ryan Buckley of Outback Reptiles posted a picture on his Facebook page (mobile uploads) of a supposed female desert on a clutch of what looks like 6 good eggs.
Im not going to post the picture without permission.
Can anyone verify this? It's something to keep an eye on now. If it is a desert and they hatch then it means it is possible to breed female deserts.
Pretty cool huh.

While I'm excited for Ryan if that's true, I don't think it changes much in the grand scope of things, but we shall see

Not entirely true. If, and that's a big IF they go term and hatch into thriving babies, female desert prices will sadly not be in line with the success rate of deserts.

It depends. Lots of questions need to be asked first. A big one is whether or not this took some special incubation / cooling / SOMETHING that got it to produce. Another is if they will go full term and hatch into healthy deserts!
If so, then enchis, orange dreams, AND deserts are my favorite enhancer morphs :D
I really hope that it IS a desert... I hope everything works out.. and I hope to get a desert in the future :D
EDIT: To the OP, you don't need to post the picture, but you can link his facebook :gj:. For all the facebook newbies, just click on "Wall" and look at the post he titled "And They Say Female Deserts Don't Lay Fertile Eggs...":

I'm a big fan of Ryan. In fact, I purchased my most recent addition from him. But, I do have to wonder what he did different, that no one else has been able to do before...
I hope this news it true and the hobby can get a handle on the secret to making female Deserts go.
A Desert Pinstripe is very high on my wish list.

x2! Desert spinner ....
Anything desert really! Gah, I'm getting my hopes up !!

If I were him I would have kept this under wraps until they hatched. Then wrote up something.

See this is where the confusion lies with the female Desert thing. Nobody every said that Desert females can't lay. It's been said that they just don't do well...they normally die, slug out, or don't produce at all. But 1 in 100 doesn't really prove or disprove the original statements that female deserts aren't good producers.
I still have a small amount of faith that someone will do something to figure it out or breed them into some larger animals and make them better producers, but one female on eggs doesn't make me any more or less of a believer.
-
Hopefully this is just the first of many deserts on eggs this season. :please:

Re: Female desert actually laid fertile eggs?
Am I missing something. I don't see a speck of that creamy yellow color of the desert morph? Is that female a "desert ghost"?
-
"April fools" apparently.

LOLOLOLOLOL I read your post, and in my head, I was like "NOOOOOO!!!" So I went to check the thread, and yup... He's a jerk! LOL!!! I was so excited:(:please:

I never even bothered to go look.

So does this mean we can go back to selling Desert females for only 10 times what they're worth

No we should raise the price back up anyway.
I think a real Desert female on a fake Faberge egg would be hilarious.
-
While I don't have any qualms over paying more than $1000.00 for a non breeding pet, it better be able to play fetch with me.
All the current price is doing is playing on false hope. While the deserts are pretty cool looking, I'm not even sure I want to pick up a male. Can you imagine the let down of after many years of work, finally producing that Desert pinstripe enchi orange ghost you've been working towards and having it turn out to be female? What a heart-breaker that would be. .

Oh geeze... It WAS a joke.. Psshhht! I thought it looked a little dull. Hence my wording of "supposed" desert but they can get darker with age.
Well I guess we know the outcome of that lol!

Matzah Ball
Well Ryan Never really said it was a Desert on eggs or that he even owned one lol. It was a Joke among facebook friends. Still funny..... the snake pictured is what he calls a Matzah Ball. its seems to be some type of incomplete dominate gene that I have seen in person. This snake, from what I know, is the only Matzah Ball X Matzah Ball breeding. Might be some new insane fantastic morph that will prove out to at least be Fertile :)

Could you post a picture of this Matzah ball? :D I'm not on facebook so I can't see the picture.

4 per person...you can do the math to figure out how many I had to make in a 14 hour shift.

I can see how that might change your perspective of them a bit.. Though I do wish I had been there to taste your creations ;)

Alright... This might be a newbie question but what's the problem with desert's producing? From what I'm gathering, females are infertile/bad breeders. Is that correct or is it just certain lines? Perhaps a genetic incompatibility? Thanks for any answers.

To avoid a long winded post, search "desert problems" here and in the BP forums on...

There are literally hundreds of pages about this. All good reads, a loooong novel's worth.

Thank you. I do appreciate it. Wasn't even aware that deserts had problems before last night so I'll go read up. :)
