I did it........
Ok, I did it! Got our first boa. He is supposedly het for pastel, and had really pretty salmon color down the sides of his tail. I don't plan on breeding, he is just for fun. He is awesome! Snapped a few picks before I put him in to settle down, he would NOT hold still for a decent picture. He just kept trying to climb back up my arm. I love him. :D. Now he needs a name.

Re: I did it........
He's so beautiful! I want one sooo badly, but I have to wait a few years. I live in a rather remote area and the nearest city (200km away...) isn't boa friendly, so I wouldn't be able to provide vet care.
I love living vicariously through you lovely boa keepers here who post photos :) Keep us updated! :D

Congrats! You will not be disappointed. Boas are awesome as I'm sure your finding out!

Re: I did it........
Yeah, he is awesome. Can't wait until he has settled in and eaten so I can take him out!! I gave him two hides, is that necessary with boas? He's on aspen with two hides, and a climbing branch.

Congrats! Hes very handsome!
I cant wait to get my first "big" snake eventually :D

Some people say boas don't need them. I give mine two and he makes good use of them. but as you know every snake has their own personality.

Congrats on the new boa, you will love him!!
Also not to be the bearer of bad news but there is no such thing as het for pastel in boas, but he is very handsome!

Re: I did it........
Congratulations, and :welcome: to the Boaddiction...
All of my BCI's have 2 hides. Two of then use their hides regularly, and one only uses his hides when he goes into shed.

Like many have said welcome to the wonderful world of boas. I am like you, I got one boa because I thought they were awesome and don't intend on breeding. He is a wonderful looking boa. Enjoy.

Re: I did it........
Thanks everybody! I think he is great, I don't really care what he is since I have no breeding plans. But he is just cool. Such a different experience than a bp. Don't get me wrong, I still love love my bps!

best part about having a boa is you now have something to do with all those refused rats ;)
-
Congrats on getting your first boa!:gj:
We are planning on adding one to our collection in the near future.
-
Congrats. He's looking good.
-
Congrats! Nice looking boa!:D
It was already mentioned, boas can not be het pastel
But he does look hypo to me, faded out medallions and reduced black rings in the tail blotches
-
Congrats, he is gorgeous! And he does look hypo to me as well. :)

Very nice!!! Now.... there is no such thing as het for pastel with a boa. There is no pastel morph. Pastel is a line that is selectively breed for certain traits but it is not a morph. Basically, a pastel is a boa without a lot of black peppering and typically comes from a long line of selective breeding in order to obtain those qualities.
BTW, you will NEVER get that snake to sit still for pictures. They are much more active and curious when out than BP's. They will be constantly on the move. :)
I believe all snakes need the ability to hide. Now, my baby boa's just get a water dish that they can hide under and it costs me $1.32 at Walmart for this water dish. Some of my older boa's are really stressed out and need hides, so they get cat carriers (half). The rest just get newspaper over their substrate and they feel secure hiding under the newspaper just fine.

Re: I did it........
Oh, yeah, that snake is definitely a hypo. That means the snake lack's a lot of the black pigmentation. The snake will have more reds, oranges, and browns as an adult.

Oh, yeah, I want to point out. Make sure you quarantine. :D You probably already are quarantining but I quarantine every single snake that comes into my house even if it came from my best friend. I have invested too much money in my collection for a what if scenario to play itself out :D

That's cool, I like them with less black. And yes, of course, he is in qt. :). And actually, he won't actually ever be near my bps since he will be getting a custom made display cage in the living room. My bps are in racks.
