Quick question - why do boas have live births and bp's lay eggs. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I've always wondered.

    Anyone!

Maybe their native habitat isn't safe for external eggs?
I know various species of viper and other types of snakes like garters have live births as well.

Depends on the local, 21 is not massive, but definitely a good sized group!

    Congrats on the healthy babies!

It is most likely an adaptation that developed in order to enhance offspring survival rates. They are able to more adequately protect the developing young if they are inside them as opposed to in a nest. It was likely genetically favorable in their environment at some point and has since "stuck" so to speak.

Thank you everyone for all great replays. I paired her up with what I believe is a jungle. Seeing some of the offspring, a lot of them have the weirded patterning like a jungle. I will post some more pics once they all shed out!

I do have them set up on wet paper towels. I plan on clean out the paper towels out daily till most of the birth fluid is gone. They have cleaned up with the wet paper towels pretty well so far!

to continue the questioning, what does a slug look like, I can understand still born, but with no eggs, slug sounds odd to me

The slugs are the yellow blobs in the first picture. "Slug" is just a term for an infertal embryo which can happen in both live litters and egg clutches. :gj:

You can have both slugs and still borns in a live litter. The slugs are the embryos that didn't develop and the still borns are the neonates that are born dead.
