Morphs at petco?
The petco by my house just recently got a pastel and a mojave in. Now I'm not really a fan of petco but this one is pretty good with their reptiles.
They want $199 for the mojave and $149 for the pastel. The pastel is low quality but I really like the mojave and im thinking about buying him. I doubt anyone else will sense he is "angry" which I saw as kind of nippy but not as much as some baby ball pythons I've seen =P
So what do you guys think of the price and the color? I know a lot of how morphs are judged is personal preference and I personally do like him but I would like some opinions also or some pointers as to what to look for.

Thanks everyone!

$200 is a good price for a mojave, especially if it's actually a female. If they just came in, they're probably okay, but still check eyes, belly, and vent. I like it, but the decision's up to you. It's probably nippy because it's stressed and in a (most likely) improper habitat with another snake. Get it home, let it rest and de-stress and it'll be okay.
All that really matters as far as looks is if you like how it looks.

It said the Mojo is a him. I would probably look elsewhere for a male mojo 200 for a male isnt worth it from petco. But the choice is completely up to you.
Also picture isnt showing up for me so I cant judge on its quality.
-
$200 for a Mojo is good for a pet store that generally sell normals for $50-85. He looks pretty good, and if you really trust their reptile dept go grab it....be sure to quarantine if you have others.
-
200 for petco is good, but you can get one for less from a breeder.
-
What everyone else said... $200 might be an ok PetCo price, but you'd do much better from a breeder. Also you run a lot higher risk of bringing home mites or other parasites buying from a chain store over a breeder. He does look pretty nice, but I'd pass personally...
Just for comparison, I picked up a proven breeder male mojo for $150 from a breeder in August... Just sayin...;)

A lot is hidden by fake plant, but he looks pretty good. If the OP can't get to a show it saves the $50 or so in shipping. I might not, but I've got the $$ and 3-4 shows I can make every year.

Daaaamn! Maybe not then......though me thinks you hit the lottery ($150 for a proven is nuts)
-
Everywhere I've looked recently had male mojos for at least $250! '11s, at that! Add in $50 for shipping and that's $300. You guys have to tell me where you can find mojos for under $250 because I want to get in on that.

I kinda thought so at the time. His male offspring were on the same table marked for $125. So for me, for the extra $25 to be able to breed a year or two sooner, it was a no brainer... Plus, his banded pattern is pretty nice... :gj:
Here is a pic from the day I got him...

I personally wouldnt buy anything from a bix box pet store

i have mojos in the incubator right now and im not going to charge much for the males females a little more i paid 250 for my proven breeder and he is an agressive breeder at that

Maybe cuz he's a bit dark (don't get me wrong, he's sweet, just tryin to justify the price), but his pattern is really nice from that pic. By what you said I'm assuming you got him at a show, which also helps the price a lot......still a real steal though.
-
Personally, I would look for a local breeder or wait until a show.
But in the end its your decision. It is your money after all. We're only here to give suggestions and opinions.
This is my girl. She was $200 from a local breeder. He discounted the price for local sales to save him the hassle of shipping online.

Yeah, I think I'm going to wait for some shows to roll though. I like him but the San Diego show is in a couple months. I might find something a little brighter for the buck =P
Thanks guys!

No, he really isn't dark at all. If anything, he is lighter than most mojos I've seen in person. It's kind of a washed out pic too, so that doesn't help. But the reason I got him for that price is that the breeder had replaced him with a multi-gene male and this guy no longer fit his breeding plans... Thanks! I thought it was a sweet deal myself...
And yes, I picked him up at the show in Oaks PA last August...

Must just the pic then (which is normal) that is hiding his blushing....I love his banding and reduced pattern thou....exactly what I'll be looking for once my rack gets here.

Re: Morphs at petco?
OP, he doesn't look bad at all to me. Average I suppose. $200 rather steep, but good for a big chain store like PetCo. I would personally wait for a show or purchase from a breeder online. For the same price you can get a truly exceptional mojave.

How about a very well taken care of 1,200g female mojave, 960g male lesser, 1,520g high quality male pastel, 3 tubs with custom built locks, heat tape, thermostat and about 40 feeders all for $500?

Re: Morphs at petco?
Not the best picture, but i just picked up this little mojo boy for $120. Local breeder. I wonder where petco would be getting morphs like that? I wonder if one of the employees is a breeder and is selling snakes through there?

I got my Mojave male ('11) from Exotics by Nature. Saw him on their site and fell in love with how dark he was. Total with shipping ended up around 200.00 couldn’t have been more pleased with their customer service either. Kinda felt like I stumbled into that one though, I’v seen a few classifieds for less but otherwise 250 seems about average.
Here is my boy Sprocket:

Dito on the hot part. Real pretty girl you got there!:D

Re: Morphs at petco?
Everyone has pretty much covered the price piece on the boy you're considering. I know you said this PetCo is pretty good, but just bear in mind that buying animals from them supports all of the PetCo stores in acquiring animals that most are not equipped to care for. I buy plenty of dog and cat supplies from this type of store, but will NOT buy an animal from them. Corporate policies just limit how well employees can properly care for them too much for me to be willing to support that part of their business in any way. I would much rather support a local breeder or someone with a good reputation at a herp show with my $$.

My fiancé's friend was working there tonight so I was gonna try to get better pictures but he was busy helping a family get a set up for a leopard gecko.. The snake was out though so I got a few more pics of it in the cage.

I found a reptile shop that has really nice pinstripe, clown, pastel, and bumblebee at reasonable prices also but I'm still waiting for the show to roll around =P
