I've known about this but didn't know not enough did.
Its about the tar sands in Canada.
Exxon mobile has a commercial claiming this is a good thing.
Its actually the biggest man made disaster capable of being seen from space.

My boyfriend works for Lush. A environment and animal pro rights company that makes hand made cosmetics that are either 100% vegan, or vegetarian. Meaning they are all natural, and against animal testing.

They also are big time activists and always protest things such as the tar sands.

They made a YouTube video to educate and spread the word about it.
Its not graphic but has some swear words in the video but its a explicit topic that calls for explicit tactics to get people to come to realize its a VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS project.

So to avoid another mark against me on my beloved BP.net

It has inappropriate language in the text IN the video.
I urge you to search the YouTube video
    "Lush tar sands"
And like it, post it to your facebook, twitter, anything to help spread the word.

Hope everyone takes the 3 minutes to watch and share this video.
Even if no one shares it to their social network,
Hopefully it will come up in conversation with friends and family to raise awareness and help Lush.

    Thanks.

So you pick and choose what "hot topic" they stand for that you agree with? Do they know you and your boyfriend have reptiles?

It's one thing to take a stand against something you believe in and another to take a stand for something because you feel you should stand for something.

Lol if they did I wouldn't care. But the topic of the tar sands is a lot more important. The destruction of Canada and the ecosystem around this devastation and the impact it has on our planet seems like something that would trump priority over the reptile thing wouldn't ya say?

The video shows one slant in a major issue.

Choosing to support a anti-pet group just so you get free cosmetics is pretty shallow. I mean, if you wanted to support anti-tar sand mining or whatever... but to support a animal rights group that specifically is anti-reptile keeping? I mean.. why not support HSUS/PETA because hey, they send free stickers.

I'm sure there's plenty of groups against the tar sand mining that don't also include radical animal rights junk.

So you post a thread talking about a great group that is anti-reptile... on a reptile site... but it's not to cause an argument?

It was just to show what a superb person you are. Got it.

It's a political hot topic, so I don't know what you expected, especially picking a anti-pet group to tout as oh-so-good. Then your counter is to say 'oh well I get free products!' but hey, it's really that you're a total environmentalist and love to support your boyfriend.

It's almost like trolling. Not quite, perhaps. But pretty well close to it.

Oh god. This is retarded. Take a joke people.
If its such a stupid idea to raise awareness than mods please delete this.
I'm not defending myself because I know that its a joke to try. If any one of you felt so crazy about anti pet groups or for instance the python ban in the usa, than maybe protest should be done. I'd be glad to if I could get to any or if there was any in my area but kinda sucks that the internet is the only place we can make noise anymore.

    I'm seriously just ending this.

Its an important matter that people should know about.
I do in fact care about it.
I do my part by bringing it up.
Just like I spread the word about the python ban and signed A BUTT LOAD OF PETITIONS
    Against it.

So call me what ever you all want,

Careful about judging books by the cover. I totally support your right to marry anyone you choose, and openly supported homosexuals in the military during my entire 23 year career. A stand that was not nearly so popular back in the '80s.

It's your comfort level with a company that is clearly anti-herp that I have an issue with. Don't get things twisted just because I made a gender mistake...one for which I appologized.

Understandable. I dont blame you lol! Im with you on the fact its bad stuff. (aside from the whole anti-reptile thing of course). I learned alot about it in my enviro sci class. It was something crazy like 10,000lbs of sand had to be processed for one barrel of oil. Theres that huge piece of land in Alaska that like a nature preserve or something that politicians are lobbying to start drilling in. I cant rmbr the name of it but the predicted amount of oil in the earth there is only like 4-7 years worth. In the big picture that wont help us out alot :/

Yikes, sorry about that. Just seemed unfair that people seem to be jumping on you for animal rights issues when your original post was about environmental issues. Just seems like insane logic to me.

I'll just quietly slink on home now and burn all of my Carrie Underwood, Emmylou Harris, Janes Addiction, REM and Joan Jett CD's. I wouldn't want anyone accusing me of being an animals rights activist because I enjoy music written by people who are peta members.

Did anyone watch that video and really feel you've learned anything? It flashed some images implying that whatever it's talking about is gonna cause all kinds of destruction and chaos. Said its seen from space and showed a big scary web spreading across north America! It's said it takes 2 tonnes of earth to make 1 barrel??? Does anyone know how little dirt it takes to make a ton? I'm sorry but if anyone was motivated to take a stand on the content of this video alone, then you can be driven to do anything and you should do us all a favor and not vote!

Okay... just to point out a few things.

First, you like the products and you get them free. Then it's that your boyfriend brings to you not by your choice. It's not a joke to make a outright statement and then deny it.

Second, you have a boyfriend but is actually a husband. WTF? I never denied my husband's status once we were married??

Third, I don't care if you're male/female/neuter, gay/straight/chaste. I didn't know, and don't care. The fact that YOU brought it up attempting to imply that somehow everything was related to that, or going to be related to that tells a lot about how you make your arguments. It has no bearing whatsoever on any of the arguments in the least.

Fourth, the video is sadly short of facts, high on implications, and thus poorly put together. I don't form opinions on major issues from some anti-whatever group's poorly put together video on youtube.

Again, if you want to post about a issue, I'd suggest you don't use a ANTI-PET group on a PET site. Especially when it's specifically reptile related in both cases.

To wrap up... I don't care WHO you are, WHO your boyfriend or husband is, what sex you are, what orientation you are, and before you decide it's racial, what race you are either. I do care about folks who support the anti-reptile groups just because they also support another issue. I don't use companies that are against my views, i.e. I don't eat at Chik Filet, etc. To come on here and somehow say that it's okay that the group is anti-pet, because they ALSO do this other unrelated thing on a PET SITE is rude, imho. To then imply that the members here are all rude and you're so disappointed in the site is ridiculous.

You're welcome to your opinions, but when you post your opinions on a public site, you should expect that not everyone is going to agree with your opinions and they have every right to post their opinions as well.

First, you like the products and you get them free. Then it's that your boyfriend brings to you not by your choice. It's not a joke to make a outright statement and then deny it.

Pointed out already, he is my boyfriend because the law prohibits an actual marriage, I use and get the product because its good and he brings it for me.
It IS. And was a joke because I was JOKING for the sake of pointing out the fact that the thread is about a totally other subject. Not about attacking me because you feel the need to be special.

Second, you have a boyfriend but is actually a husband. WTF? I never denied my husband's status once we were married??

Be glad you never have to deny or careful about who he is to you.
Its not safe for me to do so all the time and its been proven to me that I should be careful even to give him a kiss in public. Sorry that's the way it is and it sucks but its not my fault.

The point was to get a rise out of you in particular because you obviously felt that it was necessary to start making me to be a bad person.

Fourth, the video is sadly short of facts, high on implications, and thus poorly put together. I don't form opinions on major issues from some anti-whatever group's poorly put together video on youtube.

The video is just that, a video, and I'm sorry but if I see a video or link to article about what ever I dont end there, who does?
I actually make an effort to investigate what a topic is and don't shun the first thing I see. Thats just lazy

Again, if you want to post about a issue, I'd suggest you don't use a ANTI-PET group on a PET site. Especially when it's specifically reptile related in both cases.

Pointed out, the subject has nothing to do with them, or their stand on pet related crap, I do support their view on tar sands because it is in fact a bad situation making things worse. And as was stated, if you want to not support lush because of the reptile thing than by all means,
But also since I know you wouldn't ,
Investigate all the other products and places you shop at.
See if they are against anything you stand for. Bet you'd still shop there and more not even look into it.

Darn it some of what I said is in the blue quoted and I'm on my phone and just darn it.

    Post your opinions
    not attacks on the OPer.
That's just you trying to make yourself out to be better than someone
    And yes that's rude.

Do you always think someone having a different opinion than you is an attack on you personally? That's kinda' how it's coming through.

No, that's just someone stating their opinion. The rest is your perception.

This might be a good time for you to enlighten us on what you think the word 'rude' means. I went back through this entire thread, and I haven't seen anything that I would consider rude...well, there was some language on your part that we don't normally see on this Forum, but even that wasn't really rude...just forcefully stated. If you want to see rude, I can PM you a few different reptile forums where your post would have taken on a different flavor entirely!
