Yup, my wife has read all three... Twice... Lol. I read the first one last week so I can take her to see the movie this weekend. I started the second two nights ago but haven't gotten very far yet. Definitely a good read IMO...

I'm in the process of reading the first. I already watched the movie. I thought they made it seem bigger than it really is. But, it was still really good!

I liked the 3 books. The last book kinda dragged, though..

I didn't care too much for the movie, but I did like how they portrayed Cinna.

I read all three books in about a week. I loved the books! It's hard for me to get into a book and these are the first since Harry Potter that have kept me entertained. The movie is good an I enjoyed it....but as is with most movies from books, they don't/can't add everything. That's why I love lord of the rings movies because I haven't tea the books lol. I would give the movie at least a solid B+!

What do you call hunger games in France?

    Battle royale with cheese.

I read all the books a year or so ago, and I really loved the first two but was kind of disappointed with the third. However~~ I went and saw the movie last week and I was thoroughly impressed. I really enjoyed it and I thought that they did a really good job. There were only a few things that differed from the books enough to irritate me, and the things that they ended up leaving out were things that I thought made sense. In fact I enjoyed the movie to the point that I'm rereading the trilogy again - something I haven't done since I read the third book the first time.

I'm looking forward to them doing the movies for the next two books :)

I didn't read the books but being a part time projectionist has its perks. I enjoyed the movie.

Had no interest in reading it, bit walking through Walmart Sunday night with the gf I noticed a big end cap loaded with the books for 8 bucks...cracked it open Monday morning, and finished Monday afternoon. I started the second yesterday after work and am almost done with it...its incredible!

I read the trilogy for class fall quarter this year and finished the whole trilogy in a week because I loved them so much! Right after I read them (Not even 2 weeks later) I saw an ad for the movie and was dying to see it, and I was honestly very happy with how they did it, especially the subtle ways of hinting at the parts of the books they couldn't fit it...sort of felt like you were being rewarded for reading the books. I do however have to agree that while the 3rd book was my least favorite, I think it will make the best movie, there is so much packed into the last book it will make a very action packed movie.

Good to hear, not to sound like a book snob, but I hate when movies ruin books.

Movies are never as good as the books. Thanks for the thread, I could always use a good book to read. Guess what I will be looking for on my lunchbreak?? :)

I read all three books over a year ago. They were pretty good. I'm always disappointed in movie creations of books that I enjoy. No movie can ever replace the vividness of the mind's imagination. So, I'll wait for it to come out on demand.

    ok movie or book question:

I've only seen the movie. If they have enough technology to control nature, why are people starving?

Because it's the government that has the power to control everything and the people who are starving are the outlaying districts. The whole back story is that there used to be 13 districts, but there was a huge rebellion against the capitol ~ the capitol won, district 13 was destroyed, and the hunger games were started.

I plan on reading the books soon. I hear the message is so much different than the movie.

I watched the movie, and thought it was 'ok'. I think it would be better if I haven't already seen Battle Royale. It's practically a Hollywood flashed up version of Battle Royale, which was still the better movie in my opinion....

If you haven't read the book yet please do, IMO it blows the Hunger Games out of the water...though yes, I still enjoyed the Hunger Games (movie too).

I've read all three books, couldn't put them down actually. Only took me a week to get through all three. I've also seen the movie which I thought was very good, but not as good as the books (are movies EVER as good as the books?)

I thought I was the only one who thought the movie was horrible. I don't understand how it received so many good reviews. I understand that the film had to put constraints on itself to make it age-apporpriate.. due to the fact that the majority of ticket sales would be going to minors.. and it is a young-adult book after-all.. but the movie could have been so much more if the violence was portrayed that same as it was in the book.

The costume designs were under-whelming too. I do love lenny kravitz though.

On second thought, if I hadn't read the book I probably would have enjoyed the movie a lot more.

Exactly. No movie can compare to what you get out of a book. There is a intimacy between the reader and a book that a movie just can't replicate. None the less I'm still looking forward to watching the movie.
Also started book number two, and it's starting to heat up fast!

The lord of the rings series comes pretty darn close...
Peter Jackson is amazing. Cant wait til the Hobbit comes out :D

Read all three, love them! You'll stay up way to late to read those dang books!

And I have to say it, people who say the moive sucks and the book was way better, please name a movie that was better than the book... you have to go in knowing the movie is going to be different and the book is way better, it always is.

i stand by my statement. I cant think of any except for the Lord of the Rings movies. The books were still better, but those movies come very close!

I've only just finished the first book and I went to the movie this afternoon. I really enjoyed the book and the movie was well done. It's a good read and a good book, but it lacks the ingenious creativity and brilliant writing of series like Harry Potter and LOTR. Hunger Games is definitely more of something to read for entertainment.

Haven't read books yet, ordering next month maybe. But I -did- see the movie, and though I heard there were some key differences in movie vs. book that might mess up the movies later on, I still thought the movie was INCREDIBLE! Absolutely amazing. One critic summed it up well:
"It exceeds the excitement of Twilight by a considerable amount, and adequately fills the void left behind by Harry Potter."
Though I don't like Twilight, it does patch up the void from HP ;) Awesome series from what I can tell! :gj:

Ok I finally saw the movie, and I think they did a pretty good job with it. Obviously there were some differences from the book and they left some things out. But all in all I think they could have done a lot worse, as some movies butcher books. This one IMO did the book justice.

I was not impressed with the movie. My wife and I both found it hard to connect with the main characters, and I found myself getting annoyed at the stupid decisions they were making. Some of the supporting cast did a pretty good job (I liked Woody Harrelson's performance, for example), but that's not enough on its own - the main characters and plot need to be good too, and, in my opinion, at least, they weren't.

I was thinking about reading the book(s), but after seeing the story, I find myself uninterested.
