    Never heard this
I ran across this. Thought it was interesting about captive hatched and wild caught ball pythons. I found it on Sandfire dragon ranch website...

"A note about captive-hatched ball pythons: Most normal, non-specific color morph ball pythons are still farmed and imported from Africa (mostly from Togo, Benin and Ghana). Each of these countries has strict quotas (ball pythons are CITES II animals and are carefully monitored), so the snakes usually come in large quantities and then the quotas expire until the following year. This has been beneficial to the snakes, the collectors, the importers/exporters and the hobbyists in that the native peoples have seen the advantages and long-term benefits of “protecting” this species. In most of these countries, gravid females are collected, the eggs harvested, and then the mother is (and later a percentage of the babies are) released back into the wild. This has provided both grass-roots income and long-term habitat protection/species sustainability"

Ehh Idk about tha last part about letting them go but yes I do know for a fact that a large percentage of hatchling "normals" you see are imported from Africa. the catch and release is probable I suppose.. I know in some countries they harvest venomous snakes by the hundreds, milk them then release them. So it could be possible but id have to see proof of that.

Oh I'm sorry i must have imagined doing a research paper on it. If you feel like it you can look up The Irula Extraction Cooperative Society and let me know if you still have the same opinion.

Zack, please enlighten us and tell us how venom extraction in India has anything to do with the ball python trade in west Africa?

You even said you'd need to see proof of catch and release

Omg lol read what I said. I said I would have to see proof of catch and release for balls. And No there is no connection to the balls in west Africa. I was just sharing some knowledge and saying there are some places that catch and release. If thats not ok with you then let please why don't you enlighten us. You already tried to tell me I was making stuff up once why not just keep going.

It would seem that I have a hard time deciphering your posting style. My weakness, not yours.

He wasn't running it or even involved in it - just filming it while carrying out the survey. :D

A fact that is very apparent when you watch the video. On more than one occasion the local snake hunters handle the BPs very roughly, and he doesn't exactly correct them or show them a better way.

Like I alluded to, it's interesting to watch, but the whole wild BP trade/industry turns me off. Especially given how many Normals are hatched out every year in captivity. But, that's my inner demon to wrestle with since I know I can't change how things are done. I'm in no position to go film a Dolphin's Cove for ball pythons.
