Who hates waiting...
So I was planning on moving out of my gfs house with this fall and FINALLY be able to do what I want animal wise. After taking about it long and hard though my gf and I decide it would be best to wait until we graduate from college in 2 years. We will be RNs then and have a substantial amount of money saved at that point to be able to build our dream house. Or atleast be able put a lot down on a mortgage or home equity. So that means I will be waiting for another 3+ years until I can have more snakes. It just kinda makes me sad. I convinced my gfs mom to let me get a pair of darts which will be here tomorrow, but I'm not sure it'll be the same as having and holding a bp. I know its for the best for me as well as the snakes, but it sucks.
Oh well that's life...and ill only be like 23-24 by that time so its okay I guess. Atleast ill be able to afford morphs and combos in the k's unlike now with base morphs in the 300-500 range.
Just wanted to vent on my impatience.
Thanks guys and gals.

Kevin,
The list of people I would fold, spindle, and mutilate to be 24 years old again is long and distinquished.
You have plenty of time, my man. No need to rush it. You'll get where you're going in due time. Please do me a favor and stop to smell a rose or two along the trail. :)

Consider yourself ahead of the game.

Haha yeah I know! We always want to be older when we're younger and younger when we're older.
I know it'll be worth it, its just hard coming on here and seeing other people gloat about getting a new snake and wishing it could be me.
I'm sure the time will fly by with working full time and going to school full time. Plus ill be breeding my darts.....but I just hate still having rules on animals and no space to do anything else.
Maybe ill need to pick up another hobby to occupy my time.....maybe become a hardcore fisherman or get back into skateboarding..
I dunno guys!

Re: Who hates waiting...
I would like to have more snakes myself but I live in an apartment and I already have four with room for no more. I must wait unitl I get a house and also I must wait until I have my bachelor's degree for the courses I will be taking. Schooling is going to take up a lot of my time and I want to be able to care for the snakes I already have. I also want to breed just once in my lifetime but it just isn't in the cards right now. I understand where you are coming from.
-
Haha, waiting sucks, I know!! I wanted snakes when I was a sophomore in high school but my mother was absolutely against it ("No animals in cages!" ). Even after I graduated I had to wait a year, and finally gave in when my boyfriend at the time said he'd let me keep them at his house. Even now with 1.2 BPs and a little pine snake (we're all under the same roof now) I'm itching to get more, but my current man and I have to get into our own house first so we'll have room. It is -so- hard, but absolutely worth it. I've already broken my no more animals rule and setting up arrangements to get an Egyptian uromastyx once we're out, and then I've got my wishlist of tarantulas to start on....
Don't worry, you aren't the only one frustrated with waiting, and while it isn't easy it's usually the best for both you and the animals

I'm still waiting. Patience.

Well if everything goes according to plan me and my gf will be CNAs by the end of summer and have jobs at the hospital. We should be making $10-14/hr which I make $8/hr now and but my boss is a jerk and won't give overtime even though I work 43-50 hours a week. He doesn't even pay me for the over 40 hours hours, he just rolls them to the next week and if your over 40 then too on to the next week. Its stupid. But with the CNA jobs ill have benefits, better pay, and a way in so that the hospital will pay for our schooling if we agree to work for them for said amount of years. Then either this fall or next spring we will be going for 2 years for or associates in nursing. Hopefully shortly after those years are done we will be building our big house. We will be building most of it ourselves as her dad, grandpa are carpenters, and my dad knows a bit about that too. It will have an attached 2 stall garage with an upstairs in the garage section as well which will be my man cave. Ill have the basement too if I need more space. Somewhere inbetween all this there will be a wedding and honeymoon as well. Lol. Its going to get crazy really fast so I'm hoping that will take my mind off things. :)

Just think of it as practice. Breeding Ball Pythons includes LOTS and LOTS of waiting.
-
Ill be breeding dart frogs soon, not AS much waiting but still it takes about 4 months for them to morph out. I'm trying to learn patients. :/

I waited 10 years from falling in love with bps to actually getting one. But, like you said, with age comes more money to buy nicer morphs, etc. Not to mention, I'll warn you, once you get your first, you'll find yourself browsing the net and trolling sites for more or to find local reptile shows. It's downright addictive! But at least I can afford to take proper care of them now and the racks to put more into.

If you work it.. and he won pay, well. Sue. :) I hit 15 hours into OT and only.got paid for 3.. they said they would go to checks That's were smaller.. I said a few words.. ;) And lets say.. I made a lot that week..lol.
If you're no salary And you work those hours clocked in then he HAS to pay.
And this, I know you'll take offense but you have to understand this.. there is NO way to know for sure if you'll get a job with a college degree of any kind or even if you'll get paid a lot. I went to.culinary school.. I am a AWESOME cook.. I cooked for 2 Michelin star chefs... there is never a guarantee of a good job.. I get 8.50 a hour and about 30 hours a week... better then most but for.my certification I should be.making a lot.more.. yes, "we're" needed, but why pay someone more whn you can higher someone else for.less.. sadly the way IL works..
As I said, dun take offense. I was in your shoes, so hooked on it Ans bam.. applied to my first job.. $17.50 a hour 35. A week. Didn't get it. Why? I was to qualified... our area Or expertise may be different, but understand the.moral in this long reply I just posted....

Honestly its not worth the hassle trying to get paid overtime hours. He has been doing it to everyone for over 20 years. I'm hoping to have a new job this summer anyways like I said so I can tough it out. I dont really take offense to what you said.....but its not quite a proper correlation. You don't NEED a 5 star chef to make good food for people. You do NEED to have a well educated smart nurse to help keep someone alive....hope there is no offense there....I did for the longest time what to be a chef...so.

Also again no offense, but I think the US needs more well educated nurses than 5 star chefs...just my opinion.

I do love fine cuisine. However in the US health care seems more important at this time. Lol.

If you get a degree to be a Nurse then yes you are guranteed a job after college. People will always get sick and need nurses. And even if we cure every disease on the planet, which i dont see happening in my lifetime, people will still get old and need to be taken care of. And people will still get hurt. And pregnant women will still need babies delivered... Lol you get my point.
Also im not trying to get your hopes up kevin but at my work, yes i know its CT, cnas make like $22 and on holidays they get double time and a half. Its a private facility so if you can find somewhere like that in NY you could really make out. I too am going to CC right now and literally cannot wait to transfer then graduate and just get a real job and my own place to start a snake room! :D I feel your pain bro
Why arent you allowed to have snakes now? You can have frogs but no snakes?
-
Well Mike, both my mom and my girlfriends mom HATE snakes. I have tried every persuasion and no budge...I gave up. As for the CNA pay....that's a lot. Around here like I said it's about 10-14 an hour. I'm just using the CNA to get my foot in the door at a hospital because around here the company Lourdes and UHS will pay for all or most of your school if you sign on for the number of years you will need help paying. So essencially I could get my college all paid for.

Aww that sucks. My mom hated snakes but i sorta ignored her complaining for like a week and after that she didnt care. Shes still never held one but shes touched them at least and sorta treats them like children now lol. Reminding me to feed/ water them and such...
As for the pay, its probably bc its CT. If you get a job in a hospital usually you can work like 4 10hour days and have 3 days off. Thats pretty nice imo. Until you can get your snakes once you graduate i would focus on your dart frogs an breeding them. I know theyre not snakes but theyre still pretty cool little things.
-
I do plan on focusing on the darts for now. My mom originally told me I could have one when I got my first 2011 male pastel, so I got a 2007 proven mojave male and she text me one night at like 11:30 (I live at my gf's house) saying they all needed to be gone by Friday (it was Wednesday night) or she was going to "take care of them for me" because I didn't tell her how big the mojave male was....bad situation so I didn't push the issue. :(
I hope that's how hospital hours are like, because that would be awesome! :gj:

Hey Kevin :)
Know how you feel. Me and my partner are scrimping and saving to get our own place because we can't get more animals yet. He has his heart set on a Blue Tongued Skink and me obviously more BPs... But with me out of a job we cant even afford to think about what sort of place we'd like. We don't live together either so he has one snake and I have our other :( Its a nightmare! The jobs here are so few and far between as well that it could be a LONG time before I get another job :( Very impatient. But we're just trying to make the time until we move in together as enjoyable as possible :) Been on a couple of road trips and breaks to visit family to take our minds off it.

Well add me to the "buzz kill" section. Things don't always work out the way you think and to the poster that said RNs are guaranteed a job, please talk to my usual clinic which is closing shop and everyone is out of work and out of luck.
I'm part of this "new economy" I used to be making $30-35/hour, salaried, but then some idiots blew up a couple of buildings and I haven't had gainful employment since. Hourly work won't hire me unless I lie about having degrees, going back to school for a bit made it worse, and "real jobs" consider me overqualified. I'm in my 30s and don't have a living situation - just some nice people who offer their sofas and my herps live with relatives. (I don't get to see them thanks to the price of gas...)
Like many others here, I'd do many bad things to be back at your age again... I'd be working and have more than enough money for a house and pretty much anything I wanted. But, the fact of the matter is... everything can change in the blink of an eye. Back then I had it all, even a retirement account! LOL I guess all I'm saying is, I wouldn't count on anything and I wouldn't be too upset that things are perfect as it seems you have more than most: a roof, an income, and a hope of a future. I'd settle for just a regular paycheck of any amount right now...

I'm in my 30s and currently renting from a relative for 9 months out of the year and get desperate the other 3 trying to find a sofa, this is my 3rd year since we lost our apartment. Luckily, my family has tolerated my herps and they've let them live on the farm, but there really isn't room for the humans. My fiance goes over before his overnight shift (retail, try two people living off of that paycheck) and feeds them every 3 nights... I barely get to see them. Because of the price of gas, I only go if feeding night doesn't fall on his work night.

Ok you are correct i shouldnt use absolutes like the word "guranteed" but theres a very, very strong chance you will get a job if you have a BSN. You may have to relocate a bit for it but theres plenty out there. You would really have to not be trying if you cant find a job with a BSN.
