This summer I discovered how to get two hides for the price of one! If you use one of those half log hides, you can seperate the bark from the wood if you get it wet enough, and voila, two hides!
Here's a pic of Eleanor's 40 breeder with the half logs... I didn't realize how dirty her glass is, lol

And here are some feeding pics from a couple weeks ago which I thought were kinda neat.

(that's rat blood, not snake!)

I got three of those hides.....
Hehe, it's worth trying! Awsome shots.
-
Oh, my goodness! How big is that snake?!?!?!?
-
She was just over four feet at the end of the summer and still growing... haven't measured her recently. That's a medium (f/t) rat.
-
you feed your snake on the floor?
-
I bet he does it so the bp won't swallow substrate. I allow my bp's to grab it inside the cage, but usually remove them as they constrict. Never had a problem with it.
-
Yup! I do feed them on the floor so they won't swallow the substrate, but sometimes I'll just put newspaper down in the cage over the substrate and feed them inside. I've never had a problem with this method either, they eat in my room with the door closed, fully supervised.
BallKingdom -- "I bet he does it ..." I'm a girl! :) lol

i feed mine in a empty canadian 28 box.
works great

I didn't mean to sound rude, by asking that question. I just thought it was interesting, never seen anyone feed on the floor. I use the box my computer came in.

About the log hide's, Just how wet and how long are we talking? I have had one of the sucker's soaking for 24hr's and no detachment yet.......If it dont hurry, im gonna have to wash the dish's in the bathtub. :D
-
Lol, well actually it kinda happened by accident, over the summer Eleanor was kept in a rubbermaid, so I kept spraying the inside of the log and put a small water dish over the heating pad to keep the humidity up (for shedding) and after a few days it seperated. If you have a spare rubbermaid, try keeping it in that for a couple days with high humidity. I'm in the process of trying to seperate my second one, lol. Good luck! Lemme know if it works for you!
-
Dont have a rubbermaid so it is still in the sink. Been soaking for 2 day's and still no detachment. Even tried helping out with some prying with a butter knife (a dirty one at that). He out grew this one and I thought if I could get it seperated, the bark part of it would be big enough to put back in to be used as his second hide. Guess I should just go buy a bigger hide for him. I will give it one more day and if it dont work I will give it to the rat's for something else to have in their pen.
-
Hmmm... well that's kinda dissapointing. I was working at Vincen'ts log today with a pair of scissors and managed to cut myself, but pry the bark away a little bit... I'm just gonna keep spraying it. Maybe my first log was just a defective one... in which case I feel kinda silly for telling everyone they could get a two for one deal :| OH well... good luck with yours! I'll let you know if my second log is a success like the first... otherwise I guess we'll figure out I just got lucky with a peeling log the first time!

No big deal.....I was just gonna use it as fire wood or let the rat's have it anyway's. It was worth a try. Gonna let it set until tomorrow before i decide it's fate. Monty Joe deserves a new one anyway's.
