    Carpet Python Fell
    Hi all

I had a carpet python out on my bed today and I was fixing up his enclosure. He slipped off the bed, fell about 2 feet, and hit the hardwood floor pretty hard. I'm very worried because he at two days ago. Normally i wouldn't handle him after two days but I wanted to clean out and fix up his enclosure, so I just figured I'd put him on the bed for a little while. He seemed okay when I picked him up off the floor, he was just a bit flighty and rattled.

I'm extremely upset and I wanted your thoughts on weather or not I should worry about this.

    Thanks

Without actually seeing him it is hard to say but my guess would be that he's ok.

He looked fine and I felt him up and down, nothing seemed wrong.

I've had one of my Bp's fall off the bed (onto carpet) and nothing ever came of that. I'm sure if a snake hit the ground the right (or wrong) way there could be issues, but I would guess that it is more rare.

Probably nothing to worry about, judging by the number of times my snakes have fallen & survived... ball pythons in particular are rather clumsy, and NO snakes seem to have any sense of gravity! I live in a place with carpeting now, but even when I had hardwoods nobody ever fell & got hurt. Not to imply my snakes are constantly tumbling down, but it does happen from time to time when you've got nearly 30 of them.

Anyway, I would just keep an eye on him for a few days - and make sure there's no obvious trauma or major change in behavior/activity.

Since carpets are mainly arboreal I would assume a short fall would not have much of an affect no him. Should have nothing to worry about.

    thanks everyone.

I'll keep an eye on his behavior, but if he eats for me next week I'll figure he's probably okay.

My BRB seems to enjoy the prospect of skydiving - and has hit the wood floor once. I was super concerned, but nothing ever came out of it. Your boy should be fine. Just watch him.

I was leaving the vet's office a little over a week ago with my two year old male BP wrapped happily around my neck. It's his favorite place to hang out, and the place where he seems the most relaxed. (He loves hiding in my hair.) For some reason, for the very first time ever, he decided he wanted to check something out as I was standing talking to someone on my way out. I felt him lose his grip and bent over to try to catch him as he slid down my back but he still hit the tile floor with a little plop (2-3 foot drop). Aside from being a little confused as to why he was on the ground...he was fine. I palpated the length of him to make sure there were no sensitive areas, and watched him for a few days. But he appears to be fine.

I think they are tougher than we give them credit for. :gj: I understand your concern completely though...I was so terrified that my little baby had hurt himself in the fall. So far so good though. :)
