No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
I went to order some and apparently they no longer carry it? I got this http://www.nationalpetpharmacy.com/p...nt-Diet-40-lbs
Where to now?

Exact same company as NPP. You can also find it on Amazon.

The problem with that site is they don't do free shipping. I've been trying to figure out how to keep the price down. I called them and their marketing team decided to quit offering it. I'm sure people had figured out the deal and they were losing too much money on the shipping. I'll update if I can figure out a suitable solution. At this point the cheapest I've been able to get shipped is $28 a bag.

Wow, I have an auto ship that was going to process on monday. I would have flipped out if I never received the rat food. As of now, I still haven't received an e-mail stating the changes made to my auto shipment. I checked the site and it only shows the aspen bedding in my auto ship account now. Thank you very much for posting this, I really don't sweat the small stuff, but this actually bothers me. Now to find a new supplier

Re: No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
Yah this was a surprise to me too since I am low on rat blocks now. I just found a local feed store that will sell Mazuri $38 for a 50 lb bag but $20 for 40 lbs was soooo much better. Keep me posted on better places to shop online if anybody is able to find any.
-
Re: No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
Sorry. You guys had to realize they'd quit offering the free shipping eventually. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did, given the wishy washy nature of the company. There's no way they were making a profit with free shipping on 200 pounds of feed. LOL
-
Thank you for posting. I'll call them up tomorrow and cancel my orders.
If the aspen is still a good price, I might still get that. Otherwise, time to contact my local feed store!
-
$28 for Native Earth is still a good price and it is superior to Mazuri across the board. If you use Petfooddirect and enter SHIPNOW in the promotions it will be about $138 for 5 bags. This breaks down to just under $28 a bag. I'm trying to see about getting setup to be a "distributor" in my area. I have a buddy that feeds close to 200lbs a week so I think I might be able to swing it. If anyone else has an idea or better deal than $28 please share!

Wow, just got a shipment of five bags just last week. I'll have to keep an eye on hs thread.

Re: No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
I used to get Sand Valley Farms, which across the board is a very comparable product to Native Earth, and was only $16/40 lb bag, but the distributor I ordered it from went belly up. I was on the phone with them today, but since I wouldn't use near enough quantity, I'd get killed on the shipping costs, so they gave me a few numbers to track down other people they sell to. I'm going to talk to my local pet store to see if where he gets his, and if he'd be able to let me order mine at cost through him. Looks like now is a good time to meet some people that work with laboratory animals...

Try looking for it on Amazon. Sometimes you get lucky :)

Check here for a local distributor. I found someone with Mazuri 50lbs for $24 within 10 miles from my house. Slightly more than I was getting the Native Earth for, but it's still affordable to me.

Re: No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
Also, please leave a message on their facebook page or contact a representative asking them to continuing to carry Native Earth.

I'll probably have to switch to Mazuri or Kent now.
-
Re: No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
they said on their face bood page they are not going to sell it because of not enough volume in sales if anyone is in south west louisiana i am becoming a distribitor for Kent feed so let me know the you have to order atleast 2 tons at a time
-
I think everyone needs to post on their facebook page asking them to reconsider their decision.
-
I'm not sure it would do any good. They have to be loosing money with free shipping. It was an amazing deal, that no one would match. Looks like I'm going to have to see if the local Tractor Supply Store can order Mazuri. If not, then I might give hog feed a try.
-
A local Kent dealer just told me that he was able to order some Rodent Diet from his supplier in Denver, who gets their stuff from Nebraska. $18 a bag!
-
If anyone in the Los Angeles area knows where to find Mazuri or Native Earth I'd love to know! I've called around everywhere through the locators and no place carries it, they all say they'll order it but I'd have to purchase a pallet.
-
I found a supplier using the links for Mazuri someone posted on this thread. It's actually ON my commute to work, so I can pick up feed any of 5 days a week, it's a family owned feed store, instead of a big chain like Tractor Supply, and the guys in the warehouse who load the feed up for me call me "ma'am" and tip their hats at me.
Oh, and the Mazuri is $22/bag and they ALSO offered to order me a different rodent feed called "16-5"? that's only $14/bag.
If you can find a local feed store that carries Purina, they can probably do an order for you.
Did I mention, the country boys who call me ma'am? Cause that counts a lot too.
-
Bummer. I've been putting off ordering until this weekend and I see this LOL
-
This sucks so much!!!!! I just got my order in but damn!!! What am I gonna do next time? A friend of mine says he uses hog feed that is in blocks like rodent diet. Might have to check that out, but I doubt it's anywhere near as good as Native Earth or Mazuri. :(

Nick, try giving Sand Valley Farms a call and see if they supply anyone near you...they're an East Coast distributor. They gave me a few numbers of people that buy from them around me yesterday.

Also I wrote a review on here.
Lost leader product is what they had, but it got us in to buy other things such as bedding and food for our other pets (dogs, parrots etc).
Since this is the second time they pulled something like this with NO prior warning to their loyal customers they are losing my business for all of my pet foods.
I know MANY others who feel the same way.
I wonder if they thought this throug and thought of how many people who order OTHER products would be dropping them....
Anyway, keep posting on their facebook, though they are deleting the comments and giving the typical "BP" response "we're sorry"

I was never able to find hog feed in any form other than something that looks like rabbit pellets, which is useless for a rodent rack.

I just got a 50lb bag of hog feed and it's in the little pellets too(I didn't think to ask what size) so I'm just putting it in. I know some will get wasted, but they do tend to eat most of their food.
-
I bought a 50lb bag of hog food in block form from underground reptiles for $25 or 30 picked up. Not bad.
-
I paid about $113 after tax for 300lbs of mazuri at the local shop ($17.95/50lb bag). I've noticed the ammonia level is a lot stronger with mazuri but this will do for the next couple of months. Family owned business and after making a nice sized transaction they wouldn't even let our kid use their bathroom

What you need to ask for is sow cubes, or sow blocks, the smaller pellets are usually fed to smaller pigs, but for breeding sows most farmers use the larger cubes, less waste. Purina makes one that my rats love, i alternate and mix it with the Mazuri 7f. For a treat they get stuff from the garden.
-
Looks like I'll have to buy hog feed as well but not sure which one. I called agway today and they confused me even more. So which feed are you guys buying?
Sent from my HTC Evo Design using Tapatalk.

You also have to make sure the hog food is non-medicated. Just as a head's up.
Thanks for the info on the term for the cubes.

Re: No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
As much as I'd hate to keep this thread straying further from the original topic, I'm wondering if calf/cow feed is good for rats/mice. I went to the local feed store and compared cow feed to hog feed, and they are very similar...the only glaring difference being that the cow feed doesn't contain any animal protein. Even so, it's slightly higher in protein content, and slightly lower in crude fat...with a minimal difference in calcium and other things.
The only reason I had even thought of it is that the cow feed comes in nice blocks/cubes that would work well in a rack system.
-
Usually cattle feed has a lot of alfalfa type fodder in the ingredients. I'd check the ingredients for stuff that rats can't use(not being ruminants).

Was it the 25lb bags of standard rodent block or 6F? Several people have posted that they were able to purchase Mazuri for less than $20 per 50lb bag but when I call the stores they say they don't have it for that price. My local feed store said that $18 per bag is below their cost.
Which store did you purchase it from?
-
tried the cattle food and lost production and started to babies not put on weight the smell got real bad after 2 days so i was cleaning more they alos drank 5 times more water and ate 2x the food so i just swaped back to native earth a little over a month ago and the production weight gain and smell all went back to normal

Re: No more Native Earth on National Pet Pharmacy?
National Pet Pharmacy has been deleting all of our voices from their facebook and has now made it so we can not post to their wall and express how we feel.
They have definitely lost all my business for my other pets.
Ill be watching this thread closely.
-
Nat Pet was supposed to have someone call me, but no phone call so far. I told them that I might be interested in just the aspen, but that it was a LOT of aspen bedding to store, and that I didn't use as much of that up in the time period.
I don't blame the company for not continuing to carry a product that they are losing money on. Normally the shipping on a decent order of food would equal the cost of the food, so the company would have to be making up a TON of money on other stuff 'we' would be ordering, and I for one admit, I wasn't adding much of anything to my orders. They are a BUSINESS and they must make money, not lose money.
-
This is all about poor customer service. They changed the policy from $4.95 shipping to free shipping only on auto-ship orders without any warning. Now they discontinue a product that many people had set up for auto-ship and that they can't easily replace. This could have a negative impact on the animals if food is low and the orders were due to be shipped this week.
They should have sent an e-mail to everyone with an auto-ship order in place and allowed us to get one last shipment so that we had time to look for another source. If they thought everyone that was stuck would just jump over to PFD.com they were sadly mistaken.

I am another Autoship customer that had no idea about until I read this Thread. No warning, and I would have been very upset had my shipment not shown up as expected. I called up and they played dumb... "Uh, you should have received and email". She also said... "Please don't curse me out (I had no intention to, as I am a business owner and can understand)... we have been getting a lot of upset customers about this".
Anyways, I used Simple Man's advice and got setup from their sister site Petfooddirect. $28 a bag for Native Earth Is not going to kill me. If anyone finds a cheaper/comparable or better product or offer online... PLEASE SHARE :)
BIG THANKS Simple Man!

You guys just don't get it. It's not about the money. It's about how you treat your customers. They can change the business model and charge for shipping. They can raise the price. How they did it was bad. And this was the second time. They just gave everyone a flip of the bird and moved on. So have I.

That's not it at all. I have fed Mazuri and I don't like it. I'm not happy about it either but I'm not willing to sacrifice quality until I can find another solution. That's why I'm trying to track it down locally or setup an account. Mazuri runs $29 a bag
where I live plus tax.

No I totally get it. The company was all but deceitful with their autoship customers.
If I had not seen this thread, my regular order WOULD have shipped without the food, which would have been below the $50 minimum for free shipping, so I would have paid three times the amount for just some aspen bedding.
I got charged the full shipping on a order of food, after they changed the $4.95 to the only Autoship $50+ orders free shipping without warning.
I nearly got hit with the full price of the food once, and the full price on the aspen once without warning.
BUT, people are complaining that they should continue to offer the food at the 'discounted' price and free shipping. A company cannot do that and remain in business when it's a loss rather than a profit.
I don't deny the company's policies of not warning autoship customers that policy/price will be changing is a very very poor one. But I was addressing those that somehow think it's unfair for a business to discontinue a loss-making deal.
-
I agree as well. What they have done is ridiculously poor business practice, and it is with an extremely bitter taste in my mouth that I continue to do business with them in any fashion (PFD).
At this point, it is a matter of currently known options, and a quick fix for a soon needed shipment.
I will continue to search for better options, and trust in the extensive knowledge and power of the group of the great members here. We will find a better solution, and the right people/company will eventually reap the rewards of doing business right.
Anyone looking to get setup to distibute near Vegas, I am good for 200 lbs every 2 months :)
-
They still havent deleted my comment on their facebook and have replied several times. I gave them the link to this thread so they could read if they so chose to. I understand that they can no longer ship the product for free, but the way they went about it all secretively is what has most of their customers upset, including me. The best I've been able to find so far is Mazuri for $22.50/50lbs. Still going to look into sow cubes though to compare ingredients and g/a.

The $29 Mazuri is a 50 lb. bag. The Native Earth is a 40 lb. bag and more expensive with the shipping.
My experience is that Mazuri 6F is as good or better than NE.
