baby ball python wont eat ?
hello my name is christian last season i bought 4 baby ball pythons form the reptile super show in San Diego 3 of them are doing great and are eating good ..but i have one that is not doing so good she hasn't been eating ..at first it was kinda hard to get the snake to eat but once i got them to eat it was all good.At first every one was eating but then one of the ball pythons just stop eating like if it dint like food. i had to assist feed her some times, and most of the times it worked but the other times that it dint work she just spit out the mouse. i tried to offer her some food today and was not interested ...i wanted to know if any one had this problem. And what did you do to solve it

Are you feeding live or F/T. What are the complete details of your enclosure set up. What are your temps and how do you measure them. What do you use for heat. How much do these snakes weigh now.

when she ate she ate live ..i have tried to feed her f/t but she dint take , She is in a 6qt tub in my snake rack with all my other snake she is on news paper and has a water bowl on the cool end ..i measure the heat by using a zoomed digital thermometer i haveit on the heat tape its about 90 on the heat tape so it should be around 87-89 in the tub ..i do not know how much they weigh i dont have a scale

Are you regulating the heat tape with a thermostat? Is this heat tape providing back or belly heat? If it's back heat, 90 degrees on the tape is probably not going to give you 87-89 in the tub. What do you use to measure temps in the tubs?

yes i do i have a hemostat ..the tubs are on belly heat and sit on the heat tape

i just look at the thermometer that is on the heat tape and it says 90 ..so the tubs should be around 87-89 right

I assume you mean thermostat. Where does the probe for the thermostat sit? It should be on the heat tape.

There is no way to know what the temp is unless you measure it inside the tub. I run my belly heat at 102 degrees to reach a hot spot in the tub of 90 degrees.

90 degrees is a good hot spot temp for all ball pythons. Problem is, there's no way to know what your hot spot is unless you can measure it inside the tub.

You didn't answer my question about where your thermostat probe is located. Is it on the heat tape along with your thermometer probe?

    This is a hemostat:

Do you mean reostat, like a dimmer switch?

So you now have something to measure both the heat tape and the inside of the tub?

The reason I asked about your set up is because most young BPs are not prone to hunger strikes unless there is a problem with the husbandry. Very different for adult BPs, since they can be apt to stop eating at any time, and especially during breeding season.

With young BPs, it's usually a husbandry issue.

Thermostat will help settle your problems if the temps fluctuate too much it will cause the snake not to eat.

I set all my thermostats at 88-90 and i get a 88-90 in the tubs. Pickup a Temp gun to check temps in the tubs for fast readings.

My heat tape usually reads 89-92 but in the tubs its only 88-90.
