new to the site, kinda new to reptile keeping

whats goin on everybody, my names anderson. im currently living in south korea (military) but am getting out very soon and have been looking into keeping and breeding bp's. back before i joined up i had owned a few snakes, bp, garter, corn. your basic snakes any 18 year old kid would have. when i got to korea almost a year ago i started looking into keeping snakes again once i seperated from the military, and fell in love with all the different morphs that bp had to offer. i had no idea there were so many! so since then all ive done is surf the web, watch youtube vids, compare prices for building materials for racks, and most importantly the snakes. ive got a list of what i want to start with, but im open to suggestions for someone just starting a collection. is there a morph that i DEFINETLY need to get? if you guys can list the ones i should start off with i think that i can really benefit from the advice. ive got a 2k cap on snakes, so im looking for quantity, but obviously quality at the same time. hope to hear from you guys soon!

I would definatly pick up a pastel, spider, fire, Mojave/lesser, and a black pastel. With these morphs there are tons of really cool combos you can produce and best of all Thrace codominate genetics so you won't have to deal with non-visual hets.

Serpent Merchant gave you some good ideas. But, also check out Enchis and Calicos. For recessive genes Hypo/Ghost is a great gene and also Piebald.

ok, maybe i should start by saying what ive been looking at getting. lol. im just gonna list what i want to get, then let me know from there. an albino male, 3 het females. a pair of mojaves (i love the way the super looks), a female spider, a male pinstripe, 2.4 normals, pair of het pieds. thats what im buying online. theres also a few im buying from small breeders around my hometown; adult male pastel, adult male butter, and possibly 2 adult female normals.

Ok then for now i would go heavy on the female side. Id get these females: mojave, pinstripe, 3 het pieds, and 3 het albinos. Thats 8 females that would probably cost around $1500. I would grow them up for 2 years then buy these males: a lesserbee, pied, and albino. That will cost another like $1500. Then wait one more year and you should be ready to breed. It usually take females 3 years and males 1 year to become sexually mature. Thats not exact though. Then if you pair the lesserbee with the mojave and pin you can produce BELs, Spinners and other cool morphs. And obviously albinos and pieds with the other ones. A super mojave is like the same as a mojave x lesser, an all white snake with blue eyes. Then the lesserbee x pin will also make spinners for you which is why im guessing you wanted a male pin and female spider... Crossing the spiders and pins in with the pieds and albinos will start making some sweet morphs for you too! This is just wht i would do but ultimately the decision is up to you.

Welcome to the site. Go with all females first if you'll start with hatchlings then get males after a year. It takes longer for females to be up to weight and to be breedable.

You can't go wrong investing in good quality females. They will be the foundation of your efforts for a long time.

alright. that makes alot more sense actually. spend money on all females then worry about the males later. sound reasoning.

so i did some more research and decided, yes. females first. males later when the time comes. ive looked at garrick demeyers site alot and am a huge fan. but if anybody has any other good breeders that for some reason i havent found yet id love to hear em. also, i went ahead and bought a few things from reptilebasics. got the vivarium ve-200. didnt see alot of reveiws, but liked what i did find. also bought 25 ft of 3" 10watt flexwatt. they had great prices and it got back to my house quick. :)

Theres a ton of good breeders besides garrick demeyer but his snake are always good. I have that same t-stat and i got it from rich too. You will never be disapointed ordering from reptile basics. I really just dont think its possible lol. Some other good breeders are:

Alright, so a lot of people probably thought i was one of those guys that talked up a storm but never would commit to the hobby. WRONG. I just got back from Korea, (and out of the military) 2 weeks ago, and already have my collection started. And I couldnt be happier! Right now, Ive got a DIY 7 tub rack, but only 6 snakes.. I picked up my lesser and jungle pastel girls from a local pet shop. Normally I wouldnt buy a snake from a pet shop, but i talked to their supply and saw their setup and was impressed. Plus i got a free vet check up for each snake, (wouldve cost 80 bux per snake!) so it saved me a bit I think. The spinner and the 3 normals I got from BHB. I couldnt get my card to work online, so I had to call my order in. They were super helpful, and i got a courtesy call the day before shipment to confirm everything. Very nice people. I will definitely do business with them again. I'll post up pictures as soon as i find a micro SD card reader. Mines on its way back from Korea. So based off what i have now, gimme some input on the 7th snake I need to get to FILL my rack. -Billy
