    New Ball Python Strange Undulation
I got my Ball Python 4 days ago and have begun taking him out of the cage for 10 minutes every night after kids have gone to bed and the house settles down. He seems very comfortable and climbs around my hand and arm. The strange thing happened yesterday. He wrapped around my arm and begun "Undulating" but not going anywhere. It literally felt like he was massaging my arm/hand. He did not move an inch. His head and tail stayed in the same spot but he continued to "Massage" my hand for almost 10 minutes. I called Petco to ask and they laughed at me. So I'm hoping someone here could help....

    Thank you

Not strange at all. The only time I don't like when mine do that is when they've managed more than one coil around my neck - starts to get a bit starry-eyed. :rolleye2:

When was his last feed ?? Could he be trying to regurgitate ??

Other then that, BP's have been known to do some strange things :D

Ever seen a BP on a tempurpedic mattress lol

    The Serpent Merchant
    2 things.

First don't go looking for information from Petco, the people who work there have no clue how to take care of reptiles.

Second it is generally recommended to wait a week after purchasing a new snake before you handle it. This is so the snake can settle in. I suggest that you read this, it is a very good and accurate care sheet that will clear any misinformation: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ius)-Caresheet

Hah yea, I call it the neck massage. I don't let the bigger ones do it, they can really get a grip if they double wrap with their head and tail inside.

As Aaron pointed out, you really might want to let that snake settle in and eat a couple times before you start to handle it too often.

Also, in the future, if he does this (which is a normal thing) and it's been about 3 or so days after you fed him....he could be getting ready to give you a nice stinky gift!...I have been crapped on three times now and get gun shy whenever my BPs make this type of motion...hehehehe

I remember the time I thought to myself "Oh, how sweet! He's wagging his tail at me!".

I never imagined all that could come out of one snake.

    :O

He hasn't eaten at all yet. I tried but he didn't want it. I have a friend who has 3 and said she'd give it a couple days then handle them a few minutes a day in a quiet environment, so that's what I've done. He seems to be comfortable, but I could be wrong

Actually he ate about 10 days ago. We did get him a mouse but he wasn't interested at all.... The vet said to give him another 5-8 days....

In the meantime, don't handle him except for cleaning necessities so he can get comfortable. Double-check your husbandry against the caresheet on this site to make sure there isn't anything in his environment that could be causing stress and keeping him from eating. I don't handle mine until they've eaten at least twice with me.
