Need Help: Black Pastel or Cinnamon???
Loki was sold to me as a Black Pastel, but I have my doubts. Could you folks please help a newb out in identifying if in fact he is a BP or Cinny? And what characteristics separate the two?

Looks like a black pastel to me, I look for pronounced "squiggles" in the alien heads.

Thanks for the quick reply. Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by "alien head"?

    Thanks,

See the arrow on the pic that is the alien head and I would agree it is a black pastel.

I also purchased a female BP(Mella) which I have my doubts as well, she is currently in shed, but will be posting pics of her once she's done if you folks don't mind. :)

I agree it's a BP. I tend to like BP's that have alot of pattern that blends into the each other. Nice colors to yours.

I'm still kinda confused on what "defined squiggles" really are, could someone please post pics of both a BP and a Cinny and point out the difference? Sorry.

My girl is done shedding. She doesn't have the squiggles so I'm guessing she's a Cinny sold to me as a BP?

I would say no to the cinny. She looks black pastel. Yes she has squiggles and irregular shaped alien heads. Cinnys generally have very round loops. Good looking black pastel tho!

The first snake is a black pastel for sure but the second snake, the girl, does look like more like a cinny. Who sold you the girl as a black pastel? Was it a reputable breeder that's known?

First post, I saw Black Pastel.
However, in this updated post, the snake looks more cinny. It may just be a lower quality Black Pastel though... It's hard to see the squiggles, but I think I sort of see some dark shading that could pass off as very light light squiggles??

My Black Pastel has a Jet black head and back w/ little blushing. I find that Cinnys have more blushing...

Can you get a closer shot at some of the alien heads?

It's two different snakes. I noticed that too so I compared the neck markings and stripe to be sure and re read the posts. Loki is a male (the first snake) which is the one that looks like a black pastel. The female is the second snake the OP posted and it looks like a cinnamon.

That's disappointing. I'm trying to shoot for a Panda in the future, is there much of a difference when pairing BP w/ BP than BP w/ Cinny?

I just noticed that they were two different snakes. haha
    My bad!
I got confused for a little while wondering why the second snake looked different. I got the update post in my email and didn't realize it was an additional snake.

But yeah. I agree. I believe the first snake is a BP and the second is a cinny.

I believe you can still get a Panda Pied.

A panda = Super Black Pastel Pied.

A cinny and a black pastel can make a super together. It will be a solid black/brown snake.
(Cinnyxcinny, BPxBP, BPxCinny are all compatible)

It wouldn't matter if one was a cinny because they ate compatible and you still have the same shot at getting a black snake when they are bred together. You can still use them to breed into pieds for future pandas.
