    Fire...
Yes. Its true. I had a fire a couple of days ago. First off, everyone is safe thank god and my snake room was untouched.

Everyone seems to be doing great.

I get a call from my girlfriend saying the house was on fire. I immediately leave work and rush home to find the fire department blocking 2 square blocks. My heart sank as I was prepared for the worst.

Fortunately my girlfriend smelled the smoke, got everyone out, and shut all the doors in the house. The fire department stated that if she hadn't shut all the doors we would have lost the house.

End result was we lost everything in our bedroom, but the fire department was able to contain the fire to the one room. They even took the time to open the window in the snake room to air is out. Awesome!

I guess our son somehow got a hold of a lighter and stuck it in a hole in the wall where cable used to be and lit it. The insulation went up immediately.

Given the circumstances and the outcome, I'm chocking this one up as a win.

You never think it will happen to you.

Glad to hear everyone is okay. Sounds like your house can be salvaged also.

One of my boys did this once when he was younger (about 8 years old) he thought it would be cool to set some papers on fire in our upstairs loft and then thru them in the waste paper basket. Luckily, I was home and caught him in the act - he never did that again.

Kids - you just never know what crazy ideas they will get.

so far insurance is replacing 3 of 4 walls in our room, the floors, and the ceiling. Also windows and cleaning the rest of the house for smoke damage.

I'm glad everyone was safe. Both humans and snakes.
And how nice of that fire fighter to open your herp room window. I know smoke inhalation is really bad for reptiles (or anything really).

OMG! I am sooo glad everyone is safe and nobody got hurt. A fire is nothing to play around with...
I am going to share a story now......
When I was a little kid about 5, (I am 35 now) we had two fires, I still remember the relfection of the fire bouncing against the wall and remember being pulled out of the bed both times. The first fire was arson, who would want to kill two small childeren and thier mom????? IDK. the second was a garbage fire, someone put a lite cigerette in a empty beer can and can got thrown into the garbage and the garbage of course had paper in it. that bag got put into the storage room and that night the storage room was on fire. Thankfully no one was hurt either time, God was on our side.
Im so sorry about a long post, but when I read fire, it bought back those horrible memories... Again I am soo glad nobody was hurt. and all of your snakes are okay.

I'm impressed - no way I could work a lighter at three years old! All kidding aside, I'm very glad that it's working out the best that it can, with everyone and everything safe and unharmed.
