So far i have seen bug out vehicles, food storage, weapons stockpiles, livestock, bunkers, so thank you nat geo for showing me whos houses im going to raid when the [stuff] hits the fan lol. Do these peoe teally think they are gping to be able to protect what they have when it all goes to hell? Not gonna happen.

Like anything things can go to the extreme, but if you don't think that society can crumble in a second and your not at all prepared, you'll end up being the "stupid" one...at least in the Darwinian sense.

Oh dont get me wrong at all. I have my own stockpile of protection. And i know we will have an event in our lifetime that will push the resolve of humanity but these preppers just dont make sence. You would have so much more of a chance retreating into the wilds then uou will hunkering down in some undergeound bunker with nothing to survive on but corn nuts and jerky lol

I guess my problem with the show is that is seeks to do the same demonization that occurs with the snake breeder community. Can you find some of us that think snakes love us and let 20 gaboon vipers run free in there house????Sure but that does not speak for the community and showing them only serves to all that deal with snakes sound crazy!

I believe in being prepared for emergencies. Things like having flashlights and spare food and a means of protection and so on. However, spending all of your time and energy on preparing for some "what if" scenario that is unlikely to happen, IMO, isn't living at all.

To relate this differently, I like to go swimming. But I won't get any enjoyment out of it if I wear a life vest or respirator every time I went to prevent me from drowning. Or wear chain mail every time I step foot in the ocean to prevent shark attack. It's just too much.

When it comes to temporal management:

    1) Learn from the past.
    2) Prepare for the future.
    3) Live in the now.

Life has it's risks and dangers. I choose to not to live in fear of them as much as possible.

    That's my thoughts.

LOL I love this concept. you have people that are "prepping for a dooms day" and most of their equipment are dependent on modern things batteries, propane fuel ect ect. If you really wanna prep for Dooms day. You need to learn to do things like hunt, fish, grow sustainable crops, make your own cloths, get some pretty advanced medical and wound care training, learn metal work ect ect aka join the Boyscout's.

My boyfriend is a giant fan of that show. I tease him a little here and there about it. But if it makes him feel better having a ton of ammo, big guns, and a bunker full of food. Go for it darling. He dying to teach me how to use all the big Guns too so that I can shoot the zombies with him. Lol. Meh I guess that's his hobby and I can listen to him talk about it bc he has to listen to me talk about snakes and lizards etc etc.

Yeah, a stockpile of junk that will run out of fuel, and other people will want to steal--not the best survival tactic. Just learning what edible plants look like in your area = MUCH better plan.
Investing a lot of money in something not likely to actually happen, not the wisest choice. If it doesn't fit in a backpack and double as emergency gear in case you get lost in the woods, it's probably too much.
Knowledge keeps people alive, not stuff.

Admittedly, my doomsday prepping is kind of focused on a zombocalypse (zombie apocalypse) but the idea is still the same. Every time I am at home depot, I have an eye on a particular trailer wrench.... but basically, my strategy is mobility, and a limited band of people to accompany me at any given time. While other people arround offer a certain level of protection, there can also be big issues, and I cannot be dependent on other people in order to survive. I know how to fish, and I know basic survival in the wild, but I don't have guns, am not very strong, and do not want to rely on stockpiling, or carrying anything that will weigh or slow me down, or anything loud that may draw unwanted attention. I can climb trees easily, and I can fit into small spaces, and I have good negotiation skills. I know my strengths, but perhaps more importantly, I know my weaknesses, and I am prepared, perhaps in ways a little differently than others.

I've hunted humans for a living and I can tell you that moving around is what gets you caught. Provided you know what you're doing, the hunker down method is always the best course of action to sustain for the long haul. Not in a bunker though. Far to easy to find with ground penetrating radar.

This kind of thinking is why I will never run out of meat to dry and store.

Pirates will also make an excellent source of dried meat. It's far easier to defend a position than to take a position...

I posses the proper skills to survive in the wilderness without any equipment. The ammo is not for hunting and probably not for "pirates" either (although I would be happy to practice my shooting skills on some). Guns and ammo are what make us independent, without them we would be an expendable and controllable appendage of the government. Please take a look in history, every powerful dictators first move was to take the ability for civilians to defend themselves. Its not paranoid, its not my only thought, its being prepared. And it also my hobby, I find true enjoyment in guns and shooting so its a win win.

These were James Madison's, George Washington's, and Thomas Jefferson's thoughts too...

"The ultimate authority resides in the people alone."
    - James Madison

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."
    - George Washington

"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
    - Thomas Jefferson

Ok so ive heard a few mentions of this. Zombie apocolypse. Are you kidding me? Please tell me you do not believe this with a sober mind. Lmao. I have grown up in the back woods of north woods maine. Hunting and fishing for food not for sport. Now i live in virginia where i still hunt and fish and have started my kids off at an early age doint the same. I also have training in survival and first aid as i was a bear and moose guide for many years. I also have pretty extensive weapons training in my back ground so i will take my chances being mobile and living off the land as far north as i can get if something was to happen. Spending all this effort on 72 hour bug out bags and stockpiling stuff in one location is pointless. Now i have a hunting cabin at the foot of.mt katahdin in maine that i will head too and if it gets real bad i know that mountain like the back of my hand so im sure me and mine will be just fine. But come on people, zombies? Hahahahah

Hey now. I never said I believe it will happen. But I can hope. It certainly wouldnt be fun but i would rather have to kill somebody because they are deranged or mentally not there, than somebody who wants to kill me for territorial or political disputes. I can also hope that crazy things like dragons were to suddenly exist. This is entirely different from actually thinking it will or is ever possible.

Call it a morbid interest, but thinking of insane illogical things such as zombies is interesting. I also think of things like my position in a room if something were to happen, or plan of action if there were a fire, for example. Doesn't mean I expect a crazed gunman will come in any second to kill me, but I do enjoy thinking through the improbable. Its interesting, and sometimes fun.

It doesn't take Zombies to cause an apocolypse. New Orleans after Katrina was on the edge of social breakdown. Extend that same scenario over an additonal three weeks, and you have humans killing each other for food and water.

The ironic part of being a prepper is that if you truly prep better than the next guy, you won't have anyone to brag about it to...

I have 18 years of hunting under my belt. 10 of which is rough style camping in woods fir 1-2 weeks. We brought no food only water. We ate when we shot our meals for the day.

I dont need guns to survive, i have my trusty leatherman tool, machette and smith and wesson pocket knife. The guns just give the extra edge on protection to stop threats long range before giving up your loaction when their right ontop of you. And close range the knife is your best friend to stay out of sight.

Also dont fotget my compound bow as well as crossbow.
