is this a healthy weight or not???
ok so i weighed my female ball python today and she is 316 grams i got her 6/27/11 she was just a few weeks old now is that good or am i slacking on my ball pythons health!?!?!?

Ball pythons grow at different rates. Pictures would help. As would some information like what you feed and how often. It is impossible to just say, "Oh at this age it should be this weight."

I agree with angllady2's post, but I will add that in most cases a BP will weigh a little more than 316 grams by that age, but not all. pictures and feeding/temperature/humidity information would give us a much better idea.

Roughly 10 months old and only 318 grams? Seems slighlty underweight to me... But it depends on her eating/your feeeding habits...
My 4 month old cinny weighs that much and i feed only once a week. No powerfeeding or anything...

My female was born 7/2011 and is ~500 grams. However, I switched her to rats and a 5 day feeding schedule almost immediately. I would say yours doesn't look underweight but if you want it to put on the weight switch to rats.

I really like how she has almost no spots on her back. It looks really neat! Where did you get her from?

I'd say that she looks a little thin for her length, but nowhere near unhealthy.

If she will take them. if you know that shed weighs 316 grams, then you can determine how much you should feed her. The rule is 15% of her body weight, so you should feed her 47.4 grams of rodent (316*0.15=47.4)

It doesn't need to be exact (+/- 5 grams isn't going to hurt)

ima give it a try but like i said ima buy a real scale so i can get a accurate weight and then do the ratio but thanks man u been real helpful

She is definitely ready for small rats. She is thin for her length, but not necessarily underweight. Did that make sense ? If she were very underweight, you could see it. She'd be triangular shaped and not rounded like she is. Sure she could be a little heavier, but she is not in poor condition.

He's also a bit long for his weight & he has the reddishness on his back, this is not the greatest pic :P

I am not an expert but I think your girl looks awesome :gj: I think she'll fatten up for sure.

Here is a pic of mine. She hatched end of June. I haven't weighed her in over a month, but at last weigh in she was 300 grams. She looks a little thicker than yours, but not as long. She is eating rats once a week.http://img.tapatalk.com/aefdc2f8-5f85-a591.jpg

My pastel is over 600 grams at only seven months old... She doesn't look underweight but I would definitely switch to rats and a five day schedule. 7-10 days is good for a ball python over 600 grams but anything under that I would go with a five day schedule and maybe slightly larger meals to get her weight up.

That is what I thought when I saw yours! :D

And lately whenever anyone sees him they have the same reaction - "longsnake is loooong" lol.

It's cool to see pics of all these growing snakes, helps to have something to compare to! Good luck getting your girl on rats...I have a little ways to go but I hope to follow you soon. :P

My butter female was born in July, she was on a 5 day schedule but recently bumped it up to 7 days because she is gaining to much weight. Currently at 785g. She has been on rats her whole life, i dont buy mousers. Try getting her on rats, maybe bump feedings to 5 days to get some weight on her.
