best tape to secure uth to tank?
Yes I have a thermostat and yes I know tanks do not work well for ball pythons. I am jus wondering what kind of tape I should get from home depot so that the UTH doesn't keep falling off the bottom of the tank.

    Aluminum tape. It's for ducts.

It cost $20 for a big roll.

One roll will last you a long time.

Aluminum tape is the best. For a temporary fix electrical tape would be fine too :)

If I am using flexwatt with a t8 from animal plastics do i need to put rubber stoppers on the corners so that heat can excape from the bottom or is it okay sitting on a wooden shelf and all the heat just going through to the bottom of the enclosure?

Personally I would use the little rubber feet to elevate it off the wooden surface.

I do not, my bottom cage sits on the 8" stand sold by AP but that is my only cage that the flexwatt has air under it. the rest of my cages are stacked one on top of each other so they are completely sandwiched inside. i haven't had any issues yet.

because AP puts the slot in the bottom of the cage for the thermostat probe you won't have any overheating issues since the thermostat is measuring the Flexwatt's temperature directly.

This is how I tape my flexwatt on (set up with a divider)

If you are using flexwatt with aluminum tape, make sure that the tape does not come into contact with the heating element. I always use electrical tape on the ends after I have cut the tape. And then tape over the electrical tape with the aluminum tape.

I yield the floor to Aaron on this one. He has much more PVC cage experience than I do. Thanks Aaron.

It completely depends on where the thermostat probe is. because the AP cages have a slot on the bottom for the thermostat probe to sit directly on the flexwatt. this means that you aren't going to get any heat build up since the probe would detect it and cut the power.

With other PVC cages that do not have a thermostat probe slot, I would agree with you 100% as heat build up could be an issue.

I do this as well. Highly recommended.

If I rembember correctly (and that gets harder every day) the old RBI PVC cages had the slot in the back and were designed for back heat. I'm positive I didn't have the UTH on the bottom of the cage. The only time I used a bottom UTH was during my short lived experiment with glass tanks...I used feet on those.

interesting, I've never seen a RBI PVC cage, but I know that Boaphiles/PVC Cages and a few others are set up for flexwatt belly heat (or they at least have the option) and they don't have a thermostat probe slot. (one of the many reasons why I don't purchase from them)
