Ball Python Nose Burn/Rub HELP!!!!!

So last night my heat mat malfunctioned, thermostat failure, and my snake got the right side of his mouth burned(I think) The skin fell off, and there is a red patch on the side of his lower jaw. It doesn't look too serious, but should I put some neosporin on it, and/or wash it out? Super stressed over this.

(P.S. Vet is going to be hard, nearest herp vet is 2 1/2 hours that my parents would rather not drive, but if it is that serious, then I will try.)

Post a picture if you can, it will help us tell how serious it is.

And you might want to switch to paper towel as substrate for now, just to make sure everything is clean and dry.

I don't like neosporin myself, I much prefer Betadine (do not use Peroxide also). Pics would be very helpful.

DO NOT use Neo or peroxide as they will do more harm than good. What you need to do is get some Betadine (you can get it at just about any pharmacy) you will then soak your BP in a both of warm water (mid 80's) and Betadine. You want the water to be a light tea color

But like others have said, neosporin or other oil based products aren't good for serious injuries. They're only good in a pinch and should only be used in light moderation. Long term use will soften the scales.

Betadine is the best thing you can use.

I don't know if this would help a snake but. I grabbed a pan that I had taken out of the oven (very hot!) and burnt my hand. I remembered that honey helps burns. So about ten minutes (had to finish dinner) after getting the burn I put honey on my hand, then rinsed it off about five minutes later. The burn stopped hurting and it never blistered. In fact I forgot about it the next day, it wasn't even red. I am not sure if it is too late to try honey, but I know it really helped me. There is also a burn cream called Silvadene. I don't know if you need a prescription for it or not. My mom swears by it, she is a cook at a hospital. So burns are not uncommon for her. Good luck with your bp.

There is a product called melaluca oil that has seemed to work extremely well for me. I got 2 balls froma pet store that used improper caging and lights and had burns on thier noses. Melaluca oil is an all natural oil that comes from the melaluca treel. Just dilute it a little bit

Does not look too bad. Use Betadine washes and keep everything super clean. I had a rub mark similar to that on my Albino boa and was give Silvadene cream, and after the next shed it was gone. You will have to go to a vet to get it though.

That does not look too bad. Betadine can be found with the first aid stuff at a pharmacy. You can put some on a qtip and rub it on. Put him on paper towels to help keep it clean. Good job catching that and asking for help to fix it!

First thing is to calm down and breath.

Make a light tea colored bath of warm (low 80's) water and Betadine and let the BP soak in it once or twice a day for 10-15 min. Do not make the water any deeper than half the thickness of the BP.

Switch your substrate to paper towels until it heals.

It will not go away until the snake sheds again, maybe a couple of sheds, so do not freak out that it does not just disappear.

Edit: A little with a Q-tip will not hurt either. I just would not do it more than twice daily.
