I know this may seem silly, but what kind of snake is this?
Someone wants to trade me this snake for a normal ball python male that I have. He says its a nelsons milk snake. And my kids love the colors, but I no experience in these snakes and because the look kinda like a coral snakes, I wanted people who know more about them to confirm that it is in fact a milk snake and not something else. I had read that some coral snake from asian don't follow the rule of red on black and red on yellow. Thanks for any thoughts. And I know I probably sound silly. But if I bring this snake into my house I want to make sure its harmless.

Hehe... it's a milk snake... I doubt someone would try and trade a rare and venomous snake for a ball python.

Doh, I didn't read your post.. It could be a nelson's too.. They look so darn similar! Both species are 100% harmless.

Looks a lot like a coral snake but isn't. Remember this "red touch yellow kill a fellow, red touch black friend of Jack" if red touches yellow its coral and venomous, if red touches black its a milk snake...

I'd bet it's a sinaloan with some pueblan blood in it. Not a big deal, still a good snake.

Nothing silly about knowing what you're bringing into your house and around your family. :)

Thanks everyone for the information. :D We went ahead and got the milk snake. My kiddos love the bright colors, so everyone is happy. Thanks again.

Looks more nelsoni. Sinaloans have thinner black and white bands and much wider red bands. Both ssp have been crossed and have probably muddied the gene pool beyon true recognition.
