    Pastel Lesser Male
I am looking to purchase a male Pastel Lesser. I have seen such a wide range of pricing. What is the average price I should actually pay and why is there such a difference in pricing?
    Thanks! Melissa

difference in pricing will come from a few things:

    • sex
    • age/size
    • quality
    • supply and demand locally to the breeder

I'd say somewhere around $500 is reasonable for a female, males a bit less maybe

Monitor the classifieds in KingSnake.com every day. You'll start to see and get a feel for the range of prices out there in the market.

    Male - $400-$500

    Female - $600-$700

I have been watching and taking note of the prices. All snakes I have been looking at are approx. the same age. Just noticed there was a pretty good price difference.

Big name breeders generally are about the same price wise, but when you get onto things like kingsnake you will always see a good amount of price fluctuation because there are no set prices for certain morphs... people most of the time will stay in what is considered normal for that morph but they will also base their price based off of personal factors as well.

I've never seen a pastel lesser as low as $500, unless it was maybe for a quick sale...i think the norm, depending on male or female is $600-750 or so.

Florida reptile room is a great breeder local to me, they aren't huge but have good quality animals.

Your probably right, I've seen a few at this price so I personally would try to find one in that price range myself... but that doesn't mean that it is the normal price

Rob, I saw 3 Pastel Lesser 1.0's today between 2 different stores for $450 each. The 2012's will probably be as affordable if not more.

What I do when trying to gauge what the price "should be", I'll throw out high and low ends of the spectrum and average out the middle. I've paid more than I "should have" for a few animals based on them being what I like, and I've gotten a few exceptional animals at a really inexpensive price. The ball python market is so arbitrary...sex, age, size, breeder are what I see effect prices the most. Quality should, but that's not necessarily the case. You really just have to look at as many ads, as many breeders as possible and settle on a number you're willing to pay.

I wouldn't doubt by middle-end of year they're going for $400-450 regularly...nature of the beast.
