I killed my first mouse tonight
One of my females is about to bust and the other is starting to swell so I figured it was about time to kill my male breeder since the cage will be getting crowded in a few days. I used the pencil method. It did suprise me that he twitched a bit after I broke his neck (I was not expecting that). I have not figured if I care for this method yet. I have a CO2 tank for a gas chamber, but I cant find fittings anywhere (suggestions??). I kinda feel sad about the mouse, but oh well...my snakes have eat.

BTW....what happened to the DIY gas chamber article?

my bp will only eat fresh kills so I have killed a few mice so far. the way I do it is I drop them in a half gal. zip lock bag roll them up and get them in the corner of the bag and then wack them on the table. 1 good wack will normally do it. and there is no mess and if I dont bust their nose or something I also reuse the bag a few times. hope this helps.

If you have issues with whacking mice, then life won't get any easier if you decide to move on to rats. In that case, I'd work on getting your co2 chamber set up.

Home depot has everything you will need to set it up, as far as control valves, hosing, grommets, etc.

Thanks, I have been all over looking for a fitting for a paintball CO2 tank and can't find anyone that has one. I was just wondering if the posts had mentioned anything about where they got it from or what type of fitting was used.

you can also order all that stuff online from paintball supply places. if you want to do it that way let me know what parts specifically you are looking for and i can get my husband to recommend the best sites with the best prices for everything. he knows all about the paintball stuff. [brag]his team played pro and ranked seventh at world cup this year[/brag] :D

I need a regulator valve to control the flow out of the tank. If he knows where I can order it from, please let me know. Ya, I got the tank from my fiance's sister's boyfriend who plays professional paintball. He has a bunch of guns and tanks that just sit around after his sponsers give him new stuff. Maybe I should have asked him.

I would also be interested in more information about the fitting. Gander Mountain here (everybody else just sells the guns or the paintballs) finally started selling the C02 tanks by themselves, but I don't know of any place to buy the fittings.

I've been working on the cervical dislocation method, and I'm doing fairly well, but it'd be nice to be able to gas them.

Mlededee helped me out with this when I was a new member. I got my remote from here:http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/...ystems-remotes

I highly recommend you buy a remote that is coiled, the metal ones are more rigid and are a pain in the butt!

-oh, and if your Co2 tank doesn't have a valve on it, be sure to get one of the remotes that does (it's the little round knob on the bottle end of the coil). I'll just say I know nothing about paintball stuff. :)

Re: I killed my first mouse tonight
Hey gang, this is the Husband. Ok, Daniel you probably won't need to buy a regulator because you can control the gas with the remote hose. If you look at Shelby's link, you can see in the pics that there is a knob on one end of the hose. This is the place the CO2 tank screws into. If you turn it on slowly you'll have pretty good control of the gas. And a regulator (the kind used in paintball) will not give you any control, it will however cost you more than the rest of the equipment combined probably. Just the remote hose, a tank, and a cooler and you should be set. Often you can find all of these in the sporting goods section of your local "Mega-mart" type store. If not, there are tons of online retailers, just do a search for "paintball CO2 remote hose" or something along those lines. Oh, and you'll need somewhere that will fill the CO2. Check with Dive shops, paintball fields, and possibly gas/propane companies. Ok, I've rambled long enough.

thanks mlededee husband. I will look into a remote hose. I called my fiance tonight and got her to ask the guy if he had anything sitting around. He said he would check, so hopefully i get something for free. Thanks for all the help.

AH! Home Depot is the devil Bobby Boucher!! Sorry, lol, my fiancee works at Lowes & I am in line to get a seasonal summer job at a different Lowes store workin in outside lawn & garden. The good news is it should provide me with an opportunity to see a whole bunch of stuff that I could use for enclosure furniture. Plus, it pays well for a seasonal summer type job!
