BP ordered from BHB
How many of you guys watch Snakebytes TV on youtube.com... I love this show and since I started watching I really wanted to order my next adult ball python from them so I here it is
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2.../arivingBP.jpg
Unboxing video tomorrow!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana:

YAY! I love Brain and all the crew at BHB. I ordered my snake from them as well and she has been happy and healthy from day one!
-
BHB is a great breeder generally speaking, but I'd do a strict quarantine and prepare a tub or tank with provent-a-mite. they've had a few issues recently.
do a search on here for recent threads authored by kinra and Lgray and look on fauna as well.
I've never purchased from BHB, so I don't want to speak out of school, but make sure you do your due diligence.

um...what? I was only referring to their recent documented track record of sending out animals afflicted by mite infestations. certainly not impugning the name of BHB, nor implying they ship out dead animals.

oh i was not replying off oh your comment its just a thing i have in general if i see any kind of dead animal i freak out its embarrassing but i cant help it so if i get something shipped an it dies i couldn't deal with it id like run out of the way. it all started when i got 2 baby turtle shipped an they arrived dead just cheeped me out.
-
edit: since I have not done business with BHB I probably should have held my tongue, but it's fairly common knowledge at this point that they have an issue with mites. I only say this as an observer and hope no one infers anything else from what I posted. snake bytes is a positive presence on youtube, and their customer satisfaction issues are theirs alone to address.

I didn't mention anything about a dead animal. please don't reply off my comments unless you read them.

Re: BP ordered from BHB

Am I missing something? I didn't see them replying off your comment, they were just replying to the thread.
To the OP: Congrats on your purchase and I can't wait to see your unboxing video :)
-
So what'd you get? Did I miss it or did you not say?
-
My snake came from BHB mite free. She contracted mites a few weeks ago from some moss I bought at PetCo (That have since been sent to mite hell by PAM), but she arrived from them in perfect health. Just sayin'. The whole mite thing comes from one or two incidents as far as I know. Mountain out of a molehill IMO.

you're not missing anything. they were just replying to the thread but this poster must have somehow not realized that. unless he had quoted you there really isn't any reason for you to assume he was referencing your post.
-
The invoice wasn't big enough to read what you bought. What morph was it?
I had heard about that whole mite situation months ago and I don't think it really says anything about the quality of BHB's snake care. All my reading leads me to the conclusion that mites are fairly common and can be in just about any substrate package. The only way to be sure not to get them is not to use any wood products. They can even come in wood hides if they aren't treated beforehand. Not sure whether it's possible to treat substrate though.
I was thinking of using coconut fiber with my first ones but have been told that type of substrate isn't foolproof even though it's less likely to carry mites, so I may just use paper towel.
I would buy from BHB if I were to find what I want at the right price. They were the ones who first really got me hooked on Ball Pythons and they do alot of education. I'm assuming they have treated their racks and snakes once they discovered a problem.

Re: BP ordered from BHB
And just how did all that start. I think it was a miss understanding. If I received a snake that has mites I am not going to complain to the company that sent the snake. I would indeed let them know that hey, this one had mites, Thought you should know. I didn't go and look at the other two peoples threads due to the fact by the way it was put they got a snake from the very close together.

Thanks for this, I always do this. every Time I get a new animal, or caging I clean it out. I have never gotten mites, Thank God. But it is like fleas, its a part of keeping reptiles. If it does have mites I will let Brian and Lacy know about the problem.
Giftbearer... It wasn't an invoice it was my fedex tracking info. I just thought I would say what it was, I think I will wait until the unboxing video

without derailing this even further, yes it seems I misunderstood. it was late and I didn't properly read the following responses. however, the poster immediately following me stated he would order from BHB but for his "dead animal phobia."

taken as a generalization, which is apparently how it was intended, that statement is so far out of left field that I assumed it had to be in response to something I'd said or related to BHB in some way. since I am only aware of the mite issue from reading about people's recent experiences, but have not yet done any business with BHB myself, I wanted to make it perfectly clear that I was not responsible for saying anything about dead animals. I certainly didn't mean to inject any unnecessary drama or rain on the OP's excitement. preparation and awareness are good things, and that's all I was attempting to communicate.

unfortunately mites are fairly common, but they do not come from any wood products. or moss. honestly. wood mites do exist, and sometimes may inhabit packaged substrate or wood decorations, but they are not harmful to your collection. reptile mites come from other reptiles, not from substrate.
apologies for further cluttering the thread. OP, please put it back on track and keep us updated when your package arrives.

reptile mites only come on reptiles! wood mites and others come on wood products. reptile mites are a completely different creature. they need blood to survive. this they cannot get from wood.
how long had you had your animal before the mites showed up? mites have a 28 day cycle. so if it was within 28 days then there is a chance you got mites from them. just a chance you could have also picked them up from any pet store or show you attended

That's a nice lookin' Normal! Good luck with her!
You smoke around your snakes?
-
Re: BP ordered from BHB
Normally I don't but I have an air filtration machine next to me. and an open window. Other wise I don't do it.
-
Re: BP ordered from BHB
Thanks for sharing. I thought the same thing - yikes he is smoking around his baby - sorry - its a mom thing. I never allow that. LOL Think of their lung!!!!:)
-
Congrats on the new addition. I have purchased most of my collection from BHB and have always been more than happy with my new additions. What are your plans for her?
-
Re: BP ordered from BHB
my plans are education coming up combating the Lacy Act Snake Ban. But I wont to get into breeding. and so I have another male normal, that I might attempt next season. I figured I would be better to try it with normals before I try putting any money into it. but as I stand I am looking at her just as a pet and doing education with her.
Shes at least 2000 grams. the packaging information said 5 pounds and 5 pounds is 2267 so I am taking some wait on from the box but the box wait isn't making that much of a difference so she may be at about 2200. the info on there web site said produced late in the season so was still under wait. I am almost not believing that she is close to being over wait. but just as chill as can be.

I live fairly close to BHB and have seen most of the Bp's that are listed on their site as underweight recently. They were when they were listed they were pretty thin, but they are all eating extremely well and putting on a bunch of weight. I really didn't see any that I would consider "thin" anymore....

I just took this girl to the vet she is just over 2200 grams. No mites, healthy as a ball python can be. She is a little jumpy then what I am used to with a bigger ball python but I think with more handling we can break that part
