Unexpected surprise
I've had this girl for a little over 2 months ( still in QT ) and when I went down this morning to check on everybody, this is what I found....

The person I got her from had said she had locked up with the male pastel I got from them as well, but I honestly wasn't expecting anything since she was a bit skinny and small anyway, barely 1000 grams. But she laid nice looking eggs.

Unfortunately, since I wasn't expecting eggs anytime soon, I don't even have an incubator on. But I set the tub of eggs in a spare tub in the rack and turned the incubator on before I left for work. It should be warmed up by the time I get home :please:

Re: Unexpected surprise
Congrats! That must be exciting waiting to see what the sire was!!! Although you did say she was bred to a Pastel. Still fun!
P.s. I think I would have left the eggs with mom until the 'Bator is up to temp. Just my opinion.

Haha, definite surprise! The eggs should be fine for a ew hours while your incubator warms up. I was out of town when one of my girls laid last year, and I'm pretty sure she was on them (newspaper substrate) for 48 hours before I found them. They were pretty dehydrated and stayed dimpled throughout incubation, but hatched all healthy babies.

Congrats, hope you get a couple pastel girls out of that group!

Congrats! Did you candle them? They look kinda invertile. BTW, the eggs should be fine without mom for a bit. I would have left them with her also, but, eggs are pretty resiliant. Keep us posted.

Wow nice surprise!! I'm glad it's turned out well. She's so small, I didn't think it was safe to breed them that small correct? Glad you saved them from whoever you got them from :)
-
What a wonderful surprise. You probably didn't expect to become a grandparent just like that huh? :D
-
Just an update: 1 egg was thrown away as it turned solid.....boo. I cut the 4 remaining eggs early this morning ( day 54 ) because they were so deflated and the shells had become super leathery and hard, I wanted to make sure the babies would be alright and able to get out. So it looks like I definitely have 2 pastels, with another poss pastel. Yay!!

Pretty good for practically free eggs! :) Congrats!
And hows Momma doin? She was kinda on the small size wasn't she?

Yea she is definitely smaller than "normal" breeding size, but she's doing good. Ate 2 days after laying and hasn't missed a meal yet :)
