new to balls need some advice on cageing
So i am getting back into reptiles after a few years of being out of them, mostly large monitors, and other lizards. I set up the tank (yes i know i have read all your posts and most don't like tanks but it's what i have to start with and i will be upgrading very soon). The tank has a UTH on it and a seperate heat lamp up top, my temps when the light is on ar perfect 92-93 taken with a temp gun, ambient temp is 86-85 across the rest of the tank, humidity is 60%. The problem is when the lamps off the temps drop to 73 which is what the temp of the room it is in. Now normally i would put a separate lamp on it with an inferred night bulb and call it a day but it seems like alot of people are running a the ceramic heat bulb and two other lamps that just produce light and no heat. Which is the better way to go??? The top of the tank is a screen top with about 75% of it covered with plexiglass. The subtrate is repti bark about 1.5 inch thick. Question number two I'm looking at pvc tanks to house my future snakes I'm not a fan of visions ( had bad luck with them in the past) But i really like the AP tanks mostly the T8 with the divider but will that tank be big enough for two adult BP's with the divider in, I like this idea because I can remove the divider if i ever want to try breeding. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Im not gonna comment on the first part of your post,,, but I will say that the T8's / T 10's with a divider in them will house 2 snakes.

Yes a T8 can hold 2 adults as long as they aren't huge adults. Check out this thread I wrote on PVC cages specifically the T8:

Personally I would use a infrared bulb 24/7 with a glass tank.

if your going to be upgrading very soon, why not just start out with something "more sutable" for the snake? with the "t" series, you can use UTH (flexwatt) controled by a thermostat. If you dont have a dedicated snake room where the temps can be regulated, you might want to look int a RHP (radient heat pannel). I have some T10's and they are a good quality product.

Ok so just one infrared bulb 24/7 and no other lighting?? I know they do not require lights like other reptiles do but some people on hear also talk about screwing up their night/day cycles.

I found heat lamps always kill my humidity level. I would say use a oil space heater to keep your ambient temp where you want it. the UTH should provide the belly heat your bp needs. that's my two cents hope all works out for ya

The natural light in the room will provide a day/night cycle. The infrared bulb produces a light that isn't visible to them so it will not disturb them.

    I prefer these: http://m.petsmart.com/mt/www.petsmar...3&lmdn=Reptile

Yes you need 2 light fixtures.

    I get this configuration:

    T8 with sliding glass doors
    Cage locks
    Flexwatt
    2 fluorescent light fixtures
    Pop in/pop out divider

Throw in your cage decor and a thermostat and you are good to go.
