How do you tell the difference?
How do you tell the difference between a BEL and a Pastel BEL?

You really do not, UNLESS it is a Super Mojo BEL, then the head stamp will be lighter or gone.

With Pastel Potion BELs, they will be lighter.

OR, you breed it and get Pastels.

Can you use a black light to see a pattern?

Pastel will not change the almost nil underlying pattern of a BEL. I have posted black light pics of my Lesser Mojo BEL and all that shows up is a dorsal stripe and eye stripes. I do not see the pastel gene changing this.

So if i breed a pastave to a butter and got BELs there would be noway of knowing if it held the pastel gene? How would i sell a snake and not be sure of the genetics?

The only way to be sure is to prove it out. I have a Black eyed lucy poss. yellowbelly. The only why that I will know for sure is to breed her and see if I get any yellowbelly's. I'm sure keeping my fingers crossed....

Or how would i sell a snake and not even be sure of the genetic makeup? How would you price that even cause a BEL and BEL with the pastel gene would alot different in price

It is difficult to make that decision. I paid a bit more than you would for a black eyed lucy, but not much. If it proves out she will be worth a lot more, but it is a risk. Just like buying a poss het. ball python.

I will have this issue with any Karma Balls from my Lesser Mojo BEL to Pastel Phantom.

In this case, I would list it as a Karma poss Pastel.

You could sell it as a BEL bread from a pastave and a butter. This would indicate that there is a possibility of the snake carrying the pastel gene. As for pricing you should price it as any other BEL. I personally am a stickler about misrepresentation. If you are in the business of selling anything especially when your snake will likely go to a breeder than service to the buyer is of up most importance. You dont want to mislead any body and hurt your reputation.
