Mismatched spurs? and morph pairing question
I had my ball out today and happened to notice that she/he has way mismatched spurs. She/he is about 5ft long and 2,808 grams after not having eaten in close to a month. The previous owner said that she is in fact a she.

The spur on her left side sure is large but the other almost is nonexistent. I was curious if this is any sign that she may be a he? I'm sure that some females just happen to have large spurs but I am curious. I haven't had her probed myself.

Secondly, hoping that she is in fact a female, my fiance and I have been wanting to purchase a male of some morph to breed with her eventually. As far as I know she is just a normal, not het. for anything. The color in the photos is spot on with what she looks like in person. Her belly is completely white as well. I know choosing morphs is based on personal preference of course, but I'm curious what you guys would do if you had her in your collection.

    Thanks!
    Savannah

You can't determine sex by the Spurs.

Thanks Jon. I understand that you can't determine sex by spurs alone. I was just curious about the mismatched spurs and if any of you guys have gals that happen to have large spurs since it is "usually" a male trait.

My little 600g female normal juvie has bigger spurs than my 3+ year old male Pastel.

[but I don't mention it in front of him so he won't get a "complex"]

And yes, she is definitely a girl and he's been a daddy many times over so there's no question who's what....:)

    That's a beautiful snake, BTW.

Males and females can have different sized spurs large and small and sometimes they can lose them.

Very cool. Thanks guys! I think she may have actually lost her spur on the right side altogether.

Any ideas on the morph question?

Seems to me she might throw some very pretty Pastels...of course, I really like Pastels so I might be a tad biased:)

Shes a normal and as stated spur size doesnt matter. How big is she? She has to be breeding size or very close to it.

As stated in the original post she is about 2,800 grams (hasn't been wanting to eat for about a month now) and about 5ft long.

Thanks for the input :) I had a couple other breeders mention pairing her with pastels a while ago too. I had another say that I should pair her with a mojave for some secret reason but he wouldn't say why. Or maybe he was just messing with me LOL

The reason I suggested pairing her with a Pastel is because of her very clear, nice pattern. If she passed that pattern on in combo with a Pastel, the resulting snake could be very pretty.

For the same reason, she would also pair well with a Mojo!

Personally, she is too dark for me to consider pastels. You want pastels to be light and bright for the best shot at holding their color.

That said, Mojave is more of a pattern morph more than a color morph, so she might make some nice mojaves. But for me, her clear dark pattern screams Black Pastel. You want Black Pastels to be dark, with sharp patterns to them, and I think she would contribute a lot if bred to a high quality Black Pastel male.
