Great looking pickup. You are so right, my boa's are a lot more interactive than my ball pythons are. I always enjoy having them out, and they sure never want to go back into their enclosures....lol

yeah i got very very lucky, the girl i bought her from just wanted to get rid of all her boas. She was done with the larger breeds she said and wanted to stick with balls and other smaller breeds. So i counted my blessings lol and im extremely happy with her. Shes a great snake and very interactive. I love it!!

Little update: I fed Tara for the first time last Friday and she went from adult mice the girl that sold her to me was feeding her to juvenile rats which was a relief cause I didn't want her to be hooked on mice. She's an amazing snake and I can't wait for her to get big :)

Well, I've been told that with rare exception, boas are garbage disposals and will eat anything they can.

Yeah so far I have seen that, my baby nic boa eats anything I put in front of him. He is a little bit small in my opinion and he had a little loose skin so I'm going to go to feeding him every 5 days, but he is definately a hearty eater and won't turn anything down that looks like dinner :) so far the redtail looks to be about the same now if only I could get that darned bp of mine to follow suit 7 months later.....:(

Don't push your boa to hard with feeding. Boa's will become fat and can have health problems if feed to hard. My young boa's are fed on a 7 day schedule, while my older boa is fed on a 10 day feeding schedule. They really should have almost a loaf of bread shape to them, and not look like a ball python.

Well I'm not going to over feed him but he's got a little bit of loose skin and he seems to be a little small as soon as he fills out a little ill go back to a 7 day schedule and then a 10 day.

No! Boas can have a bit of loose skin - that's normal for them especially when they are nearing their shed cycle. Please just keep your baby on a 7 day feeding schedule even now. You do NOT want to over feed a boa and 5 days is too often for them. One appropriately sized prey item every 7 days will do wonders for him.

He's a nice looking baby! Congrats on the pickup - you'll love having him! :gj:

Ty but the boa in that pic is not the boa I was talking about on the 5 day food cycle. The boa I'm talking about is my baby nic boa.

I didn't even look at the photo you posted when I was talking about feeding. The boa in the photo IS nice, but in regards to your baby on the 5-day schedule, the facts are still the facts. Feed once every 7 days - no more. If you feed every 5 days, you are asking for trouble. Boas do not handle that well - they are not baby ball pythons. You will risk a regurge or other issues and once a boa starts regurging, it is extremely difficult to get them to stop. Please listen to those of us who've had experience with this.

You won't regret it. Your baby will do just fine and he'll gain some weight on him in no time. :gj:

Now I know nic boas are a smaller species then red tails but is it normal for them to be real small when they are young? I mean my nic boa and my female red tail are about the same age if the people I got them from were accurate in the ages they told me, but my redtail had only eaten once with me and is a lot larger the. The nic. Granted the redtail is female and the nic is male but it's a huge difference.

As an update I contacted the girl I bought my redtail from and the redtail is actually 6 1/2 months old which makes a lot of sense and now I'm not so worried about my nic's size

Yeah the red tail would be bigger even at the same age partly because its a true red tail and partly because its a female. But since you found out she's older, then that makes even more sense. Any updated pics of your nic boy? :gj:
