ASF, Rats or Mice
So ive read a lot about all this and i would like to know... What is the best to feed Balls? or is this a personal decision?
-
Rats all the way IMO: easy to get, easy to feed (ie don't need to feed multiples when the snake needs larger feeders), and cheap.
-
Rats are the best hands down.

@ the serpent merchant
you are freaking awesome... answering everything
Now do both of you buy f/t or breed?
-
I buy frozen. Breeding isn't worth it unless you have a bunch of snakes
This is where I get mine:http://www.rodentpro.com/

ASFs are the best hands down.

But can be difficult to get ahold of in many places and costs more.

I agree with ASF's, though I'm not so inclined to feed them to all of my snakes. Really, it's a personal preference. Rats are the most convenient, but I highly doubt one rodent is much better than the other. Mice are absolutely fine, and balls are more apt to eat mice(over rats) without a fuss whatsoever, but when you have a 2,500 gram female preparing for breeding season, it kind of sucks(and can be expensive depending on where you source your food) to feed 6-8 mice at a clip.

the reason im asking is i have a asf breeder close by, i have a small colony of mice, and i was thinking about moving to rats or asf, but i have 4 corns and 4 balls. the balls were mice feeders from the breeder but im looking at getting 6 more balls. So im completely lost here... i just want the best for my snakes and the cheapest way to do it... asking a lot i know

It's definitely personal preference.
I like rats. They're easy to get and I don't have to feed multiple feeders to an adult bp.
ASFs are illegal in my state, so they're not even an option (although I do know a local reptile store who does breed them.... they charge $25 for 1 rat though...)
Mice are way to nasty for me to feed. They have a strong odor and I personally don't like keeping them in my house. Also, it would be a pain to feed multiple mice to an adult bp.
Edit: if you plan on getting more balls, I would look into breeding rats.

As has been stated already, there isn't much difference nutricionally speaking between the 3. This is why I buy rats. They are cheaper and super easy to get ahold of.

Re: ASF, Rats or Mice
I like rats. ASFs are often hard to find and cost more. Mice are a bit less nutritious and smell REALLY bad.
