It's Coming...
That's right. Valentines Day.
This is going to be the first time I have ever had a boyfriend around this time of year and I do have a few ideas for him. I plan on making steak, garlic and herb potatoes, some other side and for dessert... German chocolate cake :) I'll probably get him a card as well. But I keep wondering if there is a little something more I could get him that he would actually like.
So I have to ask, what would you want? What would be your ideal V-Day be like? Guys and gals both!
-
Personally I never want/expect anything on V-Day, and I think that swapping cards for any holiday while face to face is beyond silly. Maybe I'm just a grinch :P

x2 I don't need a holiday to express affection towards my girlfriend.

Re: It's Coming...
My wife and I are high school sweethearts and I despise Valentines Day, lol! Kidding, I'm kidding! Really though, making dinner (especially THAT! dinner) would take the cake for me as far as someone taking the time to show that they care. I dunno, that's just me...I'm happy if my wife doesn't yell at me most days, lmao!

The hubs usually gets me chocolates (Turtles) and/or flowers (Lilies). This year I've asked for the latest Twilight DVD and a new pair of slippers. :)
We'll probably go out to dinner (Longhorn Steakhouse).
He usually gets...well...stuff we're not supposed to discuss in a G rated forum as well as a video game or DVD. ;)

Re: It's Coming...
It's interesting to me that the men's replies so far are along the vein of "I don't need a special day to show my love to my lady". Is that an "excuse" to get out of Valentine's Day, or does it illustrate the difference between how men and women view Valentine's Day?
I think for women, it's more sentimental for us. We also don't NEED a special day to show our men that we love them, but we look forward to Valentine's Day as one of the days of the year to take even more time to recognize and appreciate the loved ones in our lives.
A day outside of the normal hustle and bustle of our lives.
If we've been with someone for any length of time, we do sort of settle into our day to day lives and routines and quick kiss goodbye when one heads off to work, the automatic "I love you". Valentine's is a time for us to share on a deeper level, just what it is that we love about you big lug heads! And we need/like to hear from you, just what it is about us that made you choose us to be your gal. What things you appreciate about us above all others.
Yeah, Valentine's is probably a chick holiday - but since you love us - you should indulge us. :P Guys - don't cheap out on Valentine's Day with that lame excuse "I don't need a holiday to let you know I love you" (or you may find yourself without any love that day and a pillow and blanket on the sofa! LOL). Show your girl what makes her your number one!
Don't just grab the first Valentine card you find, take time to find one that really tells your lady how you really feel about her. She'll know the difference between a well chosen card and one you grabbed as an after thought. On behalf of all the ladie's in your lives - do it for her, she'll be doing it for you.

My birthday is only a few days before valentine's day, so I don't usually put much emphasis on it since normally I go out for dinner for my birthday anyways.
This year, however, I got my grandma's brownie recipe (complete with the recipe for the chocolate-coffee frosting!), which I plan on making for my partner. I might might him cook dinner as his gift to me, lol :P
-
We have a no card policy in our house. Unless the cards feature little old ladies talking about R rated things (usually given to and from my best friend).
Also, as of this past Saturday, I (female) am free from cooking for the rest of eternity! I gave him food poisoning with the deli meat in our fried egg breakfast sandwich (My sandwich had only egg).
Maybe we will just go out to eat a day before or after to avoid the crowd.

I've never been a big fan of getting them flowers, cards, or chocolates either. I'd rather get them something like a manicure, pedicure, or massage. Women tend to like those things and its actually for "them."
That dinner sounds great though! What would I like for Valentine's Day? Hmm why isn't there some pink lavender albino ball python morph yet? I wouldn't mind one of those!

I wear the pants in this relationship! :P I'm taking my man out to Long Beach for a screening of Harold & Maude, one of our favorite movies; after that we're probably going to hit up a local floating sushi bar. But Harold & Maude will definitely be the highlight of the evening.

Ma....massages?! O_O I think my man knows how much I like my massages but he'll probably opt for the cheaper, DIY method instead of getting me a spa package which I won't complain about because, well.....ya know *wink wink nudge nudge*
*COUGH COUGH* ANYWHO, a snake would be an awesome gift for V-Day! Too bad we're utterly broke and moving into a new place next month or this would be at the top of my list.

I agree with this. I am not a big fan of valentines day. I just don't see the point.

I've never felt anything about Valentines one way or another. Was never too bad, a couple boyfriends got me things like video games and chocolate, which was fitting. Nothing has happened the last couple years and I'm happy with it, really apathetic about the whole day. However just the other night my current boyfriend made that angry/disgusted face when the topic came up. Apparently he used to get really clever and extravagant about the holiday, but his ex ruined it for him. Might be a bad idea, but just sounds like a challenge to do something overt for him this year :P even if he doesn't like it, he usually appreciates the thought behind actions. Inside joke gifts are his favorite too (and fun to set up)

Ironic that you feel that way about the holiday considering your username. Care to explain lol?

Thought about that after I posted, haha. Nothing that special actually, when trying to come up with a general internet username to try and stick to within the herp hobby I opened a dictionary with my eyes closed and hit valentine. Asked my sister for a random noun and she gave me pirate. I liked the sound of it, so voila! I vary with it a bit now, but the image of a pirate that goes around stealing valentines day paraphernalia makes me chuckle. "Arrrrg! Hand over yer chocolate, or I'll send the lot of ya ta Davy Jones locker!"

My birthday is the day before Valentine's day, but my husband takes care to make sure that both days are special. He doesn't just go for the lazy option by combining both days.

Seeing as I'm a New Years baby, I have to compete with Christmas and National Hangover Day. Let's just say I don't hold much stock in people making my birthday special, although the b-friend seems to do a pretty good job.:P

I find this funny, because I got a certificate for a hour long massage for Christmas from my dad and have yet to go get it. Might have to do that next week :D and I would love to see a pink snake, or a red one for that matter :)

My gf has really bad anxiety, so if I'm not constantly telling her I love her, or infatuating her constantly she gets antsy, and worries that I don't love her. I have grown accustomed to this, and it's actually quite nice to drop what I'm doing for 10-15 minutes to just go and talk about the day or love on each other. My gf is basically everything in this world to me, and I go to great lengths to keep her happy. My Valentines Day plan consist of a nice arangement of yellow roses (yellow was our prom color, I asked her to prom before we were even dating almost 2 years ago :) ), a nice dinner at a nicer resturant (Texas Roadhouse), and perhaps some form of actual gift. Not quite sure what that will be yet....
