I've never had a single spill, and while they can't exactly get a full-body soak, the plastic cups I use are larger than the built-in bowls that come in the cb-70 freedom breeders.
edit: since they're plastic, I recycle everything. and they're cheap to order in bulk.
I also use the heavy ceramic crocs currently but I've been having a hard time finding a place to order some new ones to replace a few broken and chipped ones.
Which site did you order your PVC coupler/plastic deli cups from?

the PVC couplers have to come from a hardware store like home depot, lowe's, etc. I use the smooth, 4'' PVC couplers that they sell in the plumbing section (no threads or internal grooves). they're not dirt cheap (around $6-$8 each if I recall correctly), but absolutely cheaper than buying ten new water bowls. I sterilize them all before use, but other than that, they don't need any modification for any adult-sized tub. I have heard of people cutting them down so they don't stand as tall, but that's entirely unnecessary in my opinion.
I buy the deli cups from Superior Shipping Supplies. I use the 12-oz. clear, non-punched cups, which fit damn near perfectly in the coupler. $19 plus shipping for 100 cups. the 8-ounce and 16-ounce sizes fit as well since they're the same diameter across, so you can get a smaller or larger water bowl for the same coupler if need be. http://superiorshippingsupplies.com/...d-100-ct-19-ea
I got the idea from watching one of Justin Kobylka's youtube videos, and he explains the set-up well.

he also uses smaller 2'' PVC couplers for his hatchling tubs, which he explains first in the video, but the concept is the same.
I really can't see ever going back to water bowls at this point. in fact the only reason I still have a few crocs in use is because home depot was sold out of the 4'' couplers last time I went. I only have a dozen snakes, but it's saved me a lot of time and energy. if you have any other questions, just let me know.

I've only ever used the clear. My guess would be it's personal preference. I ordered a thousand of the clear and am still working through them, but plan on trying the opaque ones too once I run out.

Yeah if they are the same quality I'm plan on going with the opaque ones since they are a good bit cheaper for a few hundred through TSK.
