    Wet rats :D
So after cleaning out my rats' cage yesterday I noticed they themselves smelled kind of funky. I clean the cage regularly, it's not like I let them wallop in their own bathroom or anything, but it is a different smell. I asked my friend Brian SimpleMan if I could give them baths, and if so what should I use. He advised to get something gentle, like dog shampoo. So, off to the store I went, bought some "Pet Head" dog shampoo, and came home.

I figured they would never talk to me again. I was pleasantly surprised that Lucky LOVED the bath, he pranced around, dove under (there was only maybe 3 inches of water lol),shook off like a dog, and cleaned his own face. Charlie, however, was convinced the world was over. He huddled in the corner of the tub and tried to claw his way UP my wrist every time I shampooed him and Lucky lol. After their baths I dried them off and put them back in, then bribed them with yogurt treats and alfalfa cubes :D

I wish mine loved baths, lol. They act like I'm dipping them in acid every time. I usually only bathe the males because it's such a hassle. I like to use Dawn dish soap because it really helps with the buck grease.

Heee! That's adorable! I was never a rodent fan, but I'm slowly warming up to them (fell in love with one rat in particular that a friend of mine had as a pet). Super cute pics :D

Yep! Got him as a rat pup for a feeder. He got refused so I bottle fed him and weaned him myself. He's definitely thriving, and definitely lucky, and definitely spoiled lol.

Awwww. I remember when I had 9 rats and it was bath day. My arms looked like I just got done with a knife fight.

PRICELESS! Had me laughing myself out of my chair, lol! I can only imagine the commercials...hahahahahaha! :D

Cute rats, Leah & good to know they can be bathed. I have a few were-to-be-feeders that became pets as well, lol!

    Awesome!
I've only bathed rats who have poo stuck to their feet or fur. Well, I guess I shouldn't say bath. More like washed them in the sink.
    And I too have feeder-turned-pet rats. :)
They were just too social and friendly to feed off. They really stood out to me compared to my usual feeders.

I'm going to try allowing my rats to swim and play in water. I saw a 'rats diving for treats' video on youtube and got inspired. So I'm making a rat 'pool. You just take a small storage tub. Like the kind we use for snakes. Fill with water to the level of your choice. Elevate one side so there is a 'deep end' and 'shallow end'. If you want, you can add rocks to prevent slipping. And add a ladder/stairs for the rats to enter and exit the pool on their own.

Since one of your rats seems to love the water, I'm sure he'll enjoy this. And with time and on his own decision, perhaps your other one may come to like the water as well.

    :)
