    pastel owners!!
We got a rescue in today, thinkin he might be pastel but not sure. I don't wanna handle and take pics cuz we just got him I wanna wait a week. But can you guys post some pics of your pastels and tell me what exactly differs a pastel from a normal. He's at least 4 years old (the guy hd him for 4 years). But he's the same size as our '11 dinker male. He isn't underweight just small. He looks heathy had some shed so I did put him in a bath and got it off. But his belly is clean and his coloring is a little lighter. What really has me thinking he's pastel is his pattern though. So please post some pics for me ad if you could tell me what I'm looking for on him that differs pastels from normals. THANKS GUYS!!! =]

    Green Eyes.

Older pastels can brown out quite a bit.

Here was my pastel when he was smaller. Pastels have green eyes. Other than that I can't really help much with an older snake.

Pastels have green eyes and Normals have a dark brown/black.
Clear white belly and usually a significant amount of blushing compared to a normal

I don't have any adult sized pastels to compare color, just hatchling-yearling photos.

You can't tell if a snake is a pastel based on it's pattern. Pastel is a color mutation not a pattern mutation.

My pastels are all over the board in their patterns for example here are two of my pastels side by side. One has a reduced pattern and one has a very busy pattern, what they have in common is the light/yellow coloration and blushing.

As stated pastels do brown out as they get older. I don't have any dark brown pastels in my collection but my lemon pastel is close to 1000g in this photo and at least a year and a half old. You can see she's not as yellow, but she is still light and has some blushing.

This kinda seems like a backwards way of going about trying to find out if your snake is a pastel. Just post some pic and we will tell you. Hope it is though, that would be sweet.

    And a belly shot...

And here she is 4 or 5 months later, now pushing 300 grams... (Sorry for the crappy lighting)

Here are some pics of my pastel boy, hes about 1000g. Unlike my last pastel who had green eyes, this boys eyes are much more yellow than green. I dont have any face pics of him at the moment though.
Heres him locked with a nornal female. She started her glow about a week after this pick.

The green eyes and clear belly are the best ways to tell if they are pastel. here's a pic of both my pastels.
