I have a 4 year old female who has been a seriously picky eater since I got her. I decided to try to breed her this year at 1275 grams. She's up over 1400 now, but has been off food for the past month.

huh, i dont know what kind of eater she is, shes been in shed since i got her, but i know she was only fed once MAYBE twice a month, thats what the girl said at least. shes quite thin though, and seems very week, she goes flat alot. if shes not "underweight" shes definitly malnorished, do you guys think i should try to put her on a 5 day feed schedule?

I have a '07 girl who is at 2100 grams now, who still needs to put on weight from being bred by her previous owner.

My '08 girl is at 2000 grams who is also underweight since she's been off feed from winter, being bred by her previous owner, then coming down with a RI in transit of me getting her which also made her not want to eat (she doesn't have the RI now).

My biggest girl is 2800 grams and I believe she is roughly ~4-5 years now too, but her hatch year is unknown.

Snakes grow at different speeds, there's many factors that determine how big a snake is at x,y, or z years of age.

I'm not saying she's not underweight or malnourished. She could be both for all I know. It's hard to give a firm number of what a "normal" weight for a 4 year old bp would be. There are too many factors that come into play such as genetics and feeding habits, but could also be effected by illnesses like internal parasites.

Based on your description of the snake being weak and flat, it doesn't sound good. I would recommend starting off with smaller meals than you would normally feed. Start small and work up in prey size gradually as she puts on weight and regains strength and energy. I wouldn't put her on a 5 day schedule personally. Feed every 7 days, starting small and working up to appropriate sized prey and I'm sure you'll see the weight start to pack on.

1358 grams at 4 years old does not make her underweight some animals are smaller than others growing slower and not maxing out at the weight others do.

You need to look at how proportionate she is, look at how healthy she is as well.

She could very well be a picky feeder a smaller girl etc.

I have a 5 years old that is barely 1400 grams she is a smaller girl healthy, she bred for me this season already ovulated she just will never be a big girl.

Are you sure its a she? It looks built more like a male, which would put your weight about right.

Either way it looks like its starting to get triagle shaped, so getting it to eat would be top priority, 7 day schedule as you said you'd start.

She look a touch thin but not scary so. I tend to feed all mine smaller meals at a 7 day interval. No evidance I just think it feels right somehow. I on't have a 4 year old I have a rescue 5 year old whom is just 1100gm now but was 800 when she arrived... You could see her ribs and didn't have much shape more like a straight sided tube. I have a 3 year old girl whom is over 1900 gm now. It is hard to compare sizes and age it really is proprtions.

Yeah. She does look skinny. Especially compared to big chunky breeder girls. When you feel her, is she pretty firm? No saggy skin? I had a rescue girl about the same size and had a lot of saggy skin and felt 'hollow' when you held/palpate her.

I'm sure w/ good consistent meals, she'll be a nice big girl. :)
