    Lose 20lbs and help BP.net!!
    Hey guys,

I had an idea the other day, ran it by Judy (JLC) last week, and now I wanted to tell you all about it in hopes that some of you will be interested in jumping on board with me.

    My new years resolution, like a lot of yours, is to lose weight and get into better shape in 2012. I was thinking of ways that I could gain some initiative and support, all while helping the members of this forum. This is what I am proposing;

I am pledging to lose 20lbs by July 1rst. If and When I accomplish this, I will donate $20.00 on behalf of BP.net to a charity that you choose. I will host a poll later on in the year and let you all decide who will get our donation. I am open to any and all suggestions regarding the charity, and everyone's suggestion will get a place in the poll.

Here is where you all can help: For everyone who joins me in this, and succeeds in losing 20lbs by the summer, I will donate an additional $20.00 up to a max of $100.00. Basically if only 4 other members join me, a one hundred dollar donation will be made on your behalves. In order to participate all I am asking from you is a start weight, and an end weight (This info may be considered private to some of you so feel free to PM me and I will keep that information to myself, if you wish). I encourage everyone to post before and after pictures but I realize that some people may be sensitive to the idea, and therefor I will operate this on an honor system. I personally will be posting a before and after picture later this week in hopes that people may be more comfortable doing the same.

If you are interested in participating please feel free to contact me either in this thread or by Personal Message. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions as to how I can better the "program," or amend anything you don't like about it, feel free to tell me and I will certainly do my best to accommodate everyone. I look forward to hearing back from you guys and thanks for giving this a read, I know it's kinda long. LOL :)

    Chris.

So to start this off here is my start weight: 265lbs..

I am a little embarrassed about it considering a few years ago I dropped from 295lbs to 190lbs. Needless to say I didn't continue with my diet or exercise on a regular basis and I have put most of the weight back on. I will post pictures this weekend, I feel it is important for not only validity but for encouragement. If I make my weight gain public, I am hoping that I will be more driven to do something about it. :)

    Cheers.

I am in this boat too. I lost 5lbs already as well. I don't know.. what do you think? I suppose the goal is to lose 20lbs in 2012 so I don't see why not. :)

I also wanted to say that for those of you that are interested, but concerned that you won't be able to meet the goal, I would love it if you would PM me and I will keep your involvement private until you reach the 20lb mark. I don't want anyone to feel deterred by any public aspect of this idea. You can do this completely anonymously if you wish.

I also welcome you guys to post any questions relating to diet or exercise, or any tips you may have for others in here. There are many members that I have seen posting, with vast knowledge and success in regards to this topic. I will also check this thread daily and answer any and all questions that I can.

    Cheers.

I can try. I've been trying to lose some weight as well. But I'm still within an accepted weight according to my bmi. I'm 5'6 and currently weigh 145. (Before the Holidays, I was 130...haha)

    I'm a little too embarrassed to take pictures of myself >_<;;

I'm not going to participate but I wanted to encourage you on this goal!

Here's a few tips from my own experience:

Keep your goal reasonable in the long-term. If you're having an easy time with not gaining weight at 265, and you think you can maintain a regimen that will keep your weight at 245, that's a good goal.

Back in september I weighed 184, the most I've ever weighed in my life. With a new job, a slightly more active lifestyle, and an increased interest in cooking rather than eating as much junk food, I dropped down to 172-174 (depending on the day) in a month or so. I wasn't planning on losing weight, but I was doing all the right things to make it happen anyways.

I've kept those 10+ pounds off since.

I still grab a bag of candy, chips, or whatever sometimes. I haven't kicked anything out of my diet completely just because it's calorie dense.

It's just the lifestyle changes that made a long term difference. These kinds of changes aren't easy to keep up with, but if you make 'em realistic you'll see a difference in that number on the scale after some time!

A few things I love to eat that aren't terrible for you:

    1) portabella burgers

Marinate whole portabella mushroom cap in olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, red wine, and I even throw in a bit of A1 steak sauce into the marinade sometimes. The quantities really don't matter too much as long as you can cover the caps. I usually do 2 caps in a ziploc bag in the fridge, and flip 'em every now and then. I've done as little as 2 hours and as long as 8, doesn't make a huge difference either way.

Grill the caps just like beef. Butter and toast some burger buns on the grill. Melt a bit of cheese to the underside of the caps (facing upwards). Serve with tomato and spinach.

Yes you can have butter, cheese, and delicious flavors, and still lose weight. Just don't be too generous on the portions! This above meal is best served with sides of delicious veggies. I like to fry chopped broccoli, onions, and zucchini in olive oil and kikkoman soy sauce, with a bit of ground pepper.

I am game! Last summer I weighed the most I've ever weighed (237 I am horrifically embarrassed to say). Last August I went on WW, and since have lost over 40 pounds (I am at 194.2 as of last week). I would love to join in this challenge, and if I get to 20 pounds I am happy to donate $20 of my own dollars into the pot as well! I think this is a great idea, and it will be great to be accountable to people not just on the WW boards.

    2) Tuna tacos

Pan-sear a tuna steak (RARE is best!), I season a bit but not heavily.

Slice it into long thin strips.

Make tacos with spinach, any other veggies you want, a bit of cheese, and homemade guacamole.

Just don't eat five of them, and it's a great meal. As always, serve with veggies. I find that this pairs well with a side of "fajita topping" veggies.. onions, bell peppers etc.

I'll join in this as well. I'm 6'5" and weigh 250-255 depending on the day I guess. I always lived an active life and held a weight of 200-220 until two years ago when I quit smoking and got promoted to a desk job. I just started going to the gym a couple of weeks ago before work and have really started watching what and when I eat. I would love to weigh 195-200 one day but a 20lb drop is a good start, lets do this!

I'm in, my starting weight was 160 lbs 2 weeks ago. I am now down to 154. I lost a bunch of weight this time last year and packed it all back on :tears:

Seeing that picture motivated me to start my diet again, and begin running like I used to. I carry weight in person fairly well because I'm 5'6" however...it shows drastically in photos. I will lose the weight, I'm already down 6 lbs.

I'll join you, I need to get in shape anyways. Instead of sitting on my bum between classes 10:30-12-25 3:20-6:15 here on the internet i'm going to take an hour out of both of those breaks, twice a week, to run around the campus for an hour. And that is minimum, I will run on the weekend too. And I will be working out at the gym with a friend 2-3 times a week but that's for the muscle. Also I will join you in donating on behalf of BP.net but I need to lose 50 lbs and so I will donate $50 when I do that.

Could I possibly do this in reverse? I would like to gain 5 pounds of muscle. I'm 6'3" 160 pounds. I wanna have abs for my cruise in June! :D

I don't know if its a female/everybody thing or just me, but my weight fluctuates a lot. I can gain and lose 15-20 lbs every few months. It usually depends on the season as well. I'll be lighter in the summer and heavier in the winter. It sucks. I wish I could just stay at a constant weight (the lighter one preferably).

    Add me to the campaign.

I desperately need to lose weight, my high blood pressure and erratic pulse are not helped by the extra pounds I'm carrying.

So here goes. I swore I'd never reveal the truth about my weight in public, not even my husband knows the awful truth. Right now I am sitting at 207. :O I once said if I ever hit 200 pounds I'd shoot myself. So I lie. A lot. But enough is enough. If I can't do it alone, I can do it with the help of my dearest and best friends in the whole world, my fellow snake junkies here at BP.

I promise, if I lose 20 pounds, I'll donate $20 of my own money to charity. Here's to a brand new me! :carouse:

I'm in too...even though theres already more than 4 people. My senior year in highschool (2006)I was 6'2'' 170....and my freshmen year of college I was 205....dang you Dr. Pepper and Resses Pieces! I'm about 205-210 now, and keep telling myself to go back to the gym. I joined in December at $30 a month and I havent gone but 3 times, its money down the toilet! My plan is to get down to 180, and then start trying to pack on muscle.

I'm in... I know you've got the necessary 4 additional, but I will also pledge to donate a dollar per pound I lose between now and July 1st.

I can fluctuate 5 lbs from one day to the next, so I try to weigh in at the same time of day, same day of each week. I've been weighing in on Friday mornings before work, so I'll try to remember to update an official number here tomorrow. As of now, I'm 5'10" and 218 lbs. :gj:

Good luck. I'm not an expert but I have a lot of exercises, stretches, drills, and nutritional information, tips, and recipes. I'm a rookie at snake husbandry but if you need some advice on this topic I'd love to help, I'm far from new. At least that way I could be giving back. I'm not certified by anything but my workout partner is a NASM certified master trainer, if you need certified advice. 20 lbs is a great goal so while I won't join you on losing 20 lbs, I'll join you in donating $20 at summer time. Hopefully I didn't come across as a bragger, the intention was to come across as a resource if needed.
If you don't want any of my advice, I know where I can stick it
If you do feel free to pm me.

I need all the motivation I can get I had already planned to lose a considerable amount of weight by summer so I think this will help motivate me. I think the donating to charity is also a good idea so I pledge to donate $1 to a charity for every pound I lose. I started 2 weeks ago so I am going to use that starting weight of 347lbs. I am currently at 339lbs. I plan to be below 300 by summer.

I would like to join as well. I'm not terribly overweight, but enough that I'm starting to feel self conscious about wearing an outfit that's even a little revealing. I also could really use the exercise/diet change just for my own personal health, which isn't the best right now.

    AWESOME!

I'm glad to see so many people interested! The more the better!
Not everyone will meet the 20lbs and that's okay. The goal is to get people interested in making healthier choices and to participate. If we get 20 people and only 20% of them actually meet the goal than that's enough to reach the 100 dollar mark so please feel free to jump on board.

So far, the members that have openly showed interest in the campaign are:

Thanks for everyone's support! I am going to make an effort to continuously update everyone on the progress of the program. Feel free to update everyone on how you are doing. I will make weekly updates on my weight loss or gain for those interested. I want to especially thank those who are offering to donate their own money as well. Although I never expected it from anyone I think it shows how excited everyone is about it, and that makes me feel great about this community! I really appreciate the positive attitude everyone has towards this, and I welcome people to join in at any time over the next few months. Even if it helps people to become motivated and more active than I consider it a success, regardless of the numbers.

    Best of luck to everyone!

    This is great!!
I don't think I have enough weight on me to lose 20 lbs and still be healthy...but I am currently trying to lose a bit (maybe 10) and get more toned.
I've been eating/drinking healthy and am feeling FANTASTIC!! I've been using an app called Myfitnesspal to track what I eat and how many calories I consume.
I've also started running again. I didn't realize how much I missed doing that! Along with a couple different exercise routines.
Like a few people have said, I'd like to be involved, I'll also donate $1 per pound for however much I end up losing.

I think this is a great idea, and it will be great to be accountable to people not just on the WW boards.

And that is minimum, I will run on the weekend too. And I will be working out at the gym with a friend 2-3 times a week but that's for the muscle. Also I will join you in donating on behalf of BP.net but I need to lose 50 lbs and so I will donate $50 when I do that.

:carouse:

I can fluctuate 5 lbs from one day to the next, so I try to weigh in at the same time of day, same day of each week. I've been weighing in on Friday mornings before work, so I'll try to remember to update an official number here tomorrow. As of now, I'm 5'10" and 218 lbs. :gj:

I'm not certified by anything but my workout partner is a NASM certified master trainer, if you need certified advice. 20 lbs is a great goal so while I won't join you on losing 20 lbs, I'll join you in donating $20 at summer time. Hopefully I didn't come across as a bragger, the intention was to come across as a resource if needed.
If you don't want any of my advice, I know where I can stick it
If you do feel free to pm me.
Other than that, again, good luck and I'll be breaking my back with you! :)

    This is fantastic!!

Absolutely, everyone has their own fitness goals, and obviously some people should not lose 20lbs. I have some great tips for muscular development if your interested. PM me and I'll write you a book LOL and set you up with some awesome links.

I'll be lighter in the summer and heavier in the winter. It sucks. I wish I could just stay at a constant weight (the lighter one preferably).

It's not just you! LOL some people can lose and gain weight very easily, especially mid summer and late fall. Its both a gift and a curse LOL! I usually fluctuate between 230lbs in the summer and 245-250 lbs in the winter, things got a little out of control this year for me though. LOL

Awesome! Thanks for the support and for sharing with us! For me weight is a double edged sword. Yeah sure there is an aesthetic component to it, but more importantly it can effect your health. My blood pressure just hit hypertension stage 2. 1 1/2 years ago my Blood Pressure was 120/80 at the highest points, the other day it read 184/108.. Its quite the wakeup call! Thanks for coming in on this and I know you will be able to do it!!

My plan is to get down to 180, and then start trying to pack on muscle.

I hear you there! I signed up for my gym last June. (steered clear of all the cardio machines LOL) But I got the corporate discount which was 50% off. I pay 44 bucks a month.. my last gym I paid 62. Its expensive!!

I'm in as well and i'll add my own $20 to the kitty!

I started my diet on the 7th and weighed in at 214, the heaviest I've ever been!

I weigh myself every morning and today I hit 204! I'm already down 10lbs in just 2 weeks.

My ultimate goal is to hit 145 by september.
