Herpstat power matching function
Does anyone know how to adjust the power on a herpstat? My other herpstats I know fine but I got a basic one for my incubator and I'm having troubles with the settings. It says I can change from lo1-lo2-standard-HI1-HI2.

Im not sure, its lowering power and staying about .5 degree F below what it is set at. Also the manual says that it can be beneficial to adjust the power matching function when using on an incubator to keep temps from swinging and it is taking a long time to heat up, almost 2 days. I was actually going to call him today but I forgot. Thanks

What size heat tape are you using? How big is the incubator? You may have to use more heat tape, or larger sized heat tape.

11 in flexwatt, I added another yesterday and that brought it up. Its a 120qt cooler

If not then id suggest a Faulty probe or heat tape. I used my herpstat right out of box on bator and was up to temps in 2 hours
Nope probe is working fine and plugged in right and heat tape is heating up and evenly distributed. I think maybe I didnt have enough heat tape. Now it is fine but I'd still like to adjust the power. Right now its on standard which allows the temp to drop .5 degrees before the power comes on again so the herpstat isnt constantly powering up and shutting off however I'm trying to get it to power up to exactly where it is set to.

Or are you using a cheap thermometer and there is a difference between the herpstats probe and thermometer? Most thermometers (digital anyway) under the 200$ mark are not very accurate they usually are with in 2º of correct the herpstat is likely the best thermometer in its price range you will find.
Im using an indoor outdoor thermometer with a probe and a thermometer within the incubator as well. They are one degree off from eachother. I have the herpstat probe taped to the flexwatt, would you recommend that I remove the herpstat probe from the heat tape and place it in the center of the cooler and use it as the thermometer? and yes they are cheap thermometers, the herpstat is from spyder robotics though.

Im not sure really I didnt change anything when I got it and I assumed it would on proportional mode but it wont let me change anything. It wil only let me move temp up and down and tell me high and low temps. Ive tried holding down the buttons, pushing them once, tapping them twice, and holding both at the same time, its like it doesnt have any other options or I'm doing it wrong. Ive dealt with herpstats before and have several (different models) but this one seems to work differently.

Did you buy it new or used? I think you can reset it by holding down the (minus) button while it is NOT plugged in, and keep holding the button while you plug it into AC power (best to disconnect any flexwatt from the herpstat before doing this). Definitely email Dion if you're still having trouble.

I'll give it a whirl. Yep I bought it new its only about a month old now but I just set everything up a couple days ago. I'm gonna either call or send an email tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

I just changed both probes and placed them haging from the top danging exactly in the middle of the cooler and it is heating up faster now and the temps are matchin up now on the thermometer and the herpstat. Thanks
