Who has best pastels?
I am wondering if anyone can make a recommendation for a nice pastel that will keep it's color. Also I would like to see pictures of your guys pastels/ super pastels!
-
I wouldn't say there's one for sure source of good pastels, I'd suggest keeping an eye on the classifieds/breeder's available pages for one that catches your attention (the good ones go fast!). I picked my girl up from royalconstrictordesigns.com (DeMeyer) and I'm totally happy with her! Had to pay more than your usual pastel price, but it's been totally worth it

Honestly, I would just go to a couple reptile shows in person, preferably big ones, and pick out the best pastel you see. They'll all brown out, but the best one you see in person is usually going to beat any random pastel you buy online after a few years of growing.
If you REALLY don't want them to brown up, spend the extra on a pastel mixed with a clean-up gene. Like a firefly, etc.
EDIT: Or spend the extra money on the best pastel someone like NERD or Garrick deMeyer has in stock. Usually if they say it's a stunner and are charging twice or three times as much as everyone else, it really is something special.

My male is a "Joliff line" Pastel and this is him at well over 2 years old, probably closer to 3:

I've never seen a "Joliff" website so I don't know where you would get one.
The female I recently bought has a wild-caught grandfather who kept his bright yellow until the day he died.
This is her at 5 months:

With every shed, she gets yellower and brighter.
I'm hoping that it's a trend she'll maintain for a long time since she's the intended "bride" of the Joliff male because they should produce some really nice supers and pastels. :)

NERD, and VPI produces a really awesome like of Pastels, Brian Gundy from FGS also make some awesome pastels.
With any breeder your going to find some high quality pastels, and some low quality ones. Shop around for one that you like, you can find a high quality pastel just about anywhere.

Did you get the usual Kobylka paperwork with your snakes?
It will say what the parents were and I'm sure if you asked Justin, he would try to provide photos of their parents so you'll know what to expect from them.
The papers for my 100% Het for Clown came with him and he went the extra mile to track down the papers for the Bumblebee.
He's really a nice, cooperative man.

Yes I did get the paperwork from Justin, and the parents looked great, but they weren't just pastels. All 4 parents (my 2 are from different clutches) are multigene animals so it's hard to say for sure.
And I 100% agree Justin is great.

This is my super at 483g.
Ive always loved the bright color on her. She is starting to get dirtier as she ages, but still holding the bright yellow.

this is her at around 800g
I was told she is a Brian Sharp line, but when I emailed Brian Sharp and asked about his pastels he told me that he works with blondes.

I also think your best bet at a great pastel is hand picking in person. I got my girl from morphmakers in 2008 and she's turned out nice in my opinion. It was kind of a crap shoot because they had a few pastel girls in shed but she was still my first choice and I haven't regretted it since seeing her after that first shed.
~400 grams

The only adult pictures I have of her are breeding ones, sorry. They do at least show her colors pretty well next to other snakes. Here she is a couple years later at ~1200 grams with a spider mate.

Here's a more current(though crappy) shot of her with a fire male, she's about 1500 grams now and though a tad bit darker has maintained her colors well.

Those two are gorgeous!

Without a doubt the most consistently awesome Pastel's are produced by Robin Abernathy at Robin's nest reptiles..She produces the only pastels I'll pay money for.

Yeah, Mark Petros seems to consistently have very high quality Pastels. And, he is great to work with to boot.

Here are my pair they are both Graziani Line. Both are about 260 grams right now.

On the top/right of his side in the photo?
My male Fire has what looks like animal crackers all over him, including an Ibex standing on rocky pinnacle, bunnies, camels, etc. :P
The Yellowbelly has this freaky face on her side, with eyebrows and everything

Re: Who has best pastels?
I haven't seen a girl of equal size as nice as my breeder in person, but you all have some nice pics posted here. Here she is at 1500 grams locked with my clown. Still as yellow as ever. One of her daughters that resulted from this breeding looks like she will be even nicer.

I have a NERD and a Blonde, and I'm really happy with my Blonde! NERD has some gorgeous snakes, but it all depends what the snake was bred to, typically getting the pastel from the original breeder of the line is going to get you the best looking pastel since they have been working on that gene longer than anyone else.
