Tank!
Meet Tank, my new Argentine black and white tegu. I bought him from the president of the Madison Area Herpetological Society tonight at our meeting. We had arranged it a while ago, but it had slipped my mind until the other day. He's in a Vision Arboreal 3ft cage right now for the night. Tommorrow, I'm getting the biggest Vision cage they make dropped off to my house for his new permanent home. Best part is, the cage is only setting me back 500 bucks!:D:gj:
Here he is. His face is super white and iridescent. I think he's stunning! Better pics to come. My camera was dead and Kinra snapped these quickly on her camera.

Save your money, forget the Vision, and make your own enclosure. Visions don't allow for proper substrate depth, there is too much ventilation, and are too small. The largest one I believe is 96x30x24. Build an enclosure 96x72x48 instead. Put in a foot (or 2, preferably) of dirt, provide a hot side and a cooler side, and provide plenty of places to dig, etc.
That is a large, active and intelligent lizard you have there (his beauty goes without saying). Respect him as such.

Too late. Already bought the big vision cage for 500 bucks. It was helping a friend out by paying her mortgage so I don't mind. i bought a can filter and fan last night for a carbon filter and things are ready to go!
-
its actually 80 x 30 x 40 or 44 or something like that.
-
Man, that's tiny.
What's the fan for?

What's tiny? The fan is for a carbon filter, as i said.

If you are speaking of the cage, is "tiny" really the appropriate word? Or are you being a troll?

Troll?
You were given good solid advice and you respond by calling it trolling?
-
I got to hold an adult up at NERD, they are magnificiant. It's unbelievable how large and strong their jaw muscles are!. As mentioned though, they grow to be good sized and will thrive in a larger enclosure. You were being given advice that was for the animals benefit, try to show some respect and listen to the message. I'm sure you love your animal and want the best for it. It's comendable helping your friend, just know that you'll have to upgrade your enclosure at some point in the near future.

It wasn't about the advice. It was the comment that enclosure was "tiny." I understand what he's saying and I appreciate the advice.
-
The lizard is 7 years old. He's not getting any bigger.
You are right though. I'm not trying to get snippy about advice. I appreciate it and apologize for the troll comment. I'll take your advice for what its worth. Thanks.

Sweet Tegu! Hopefully you can build a larger enclosure as Chris suggests, then sell the vision and everything'll be all good. To the best of my knowledge, Tegu's aren't arboreal.
What is the carbon filter for, odor control?

Yeah, I picked it up at the local grow shop here in town. It actually works quite well and doesn't effect the humidity like I thought it would. I use a 4 inch duct fan so there isn't a huge airflow, but enough to filter out the poo smell. I covered the other screened areas besides where the lights are. I also put a box full of cypress mulch and he has taken to it well. He burrows in it at night. He gets free range of the apartment when I'm home as well. I just open the glass and he comes and goes as he pleases.

Nice, I can't get over how cool his name is xD
